I hate to burst your bubble, but someone has to. You got the poll to work, to what end? Are you asking us what we make, or are you asking what we think the average farang makes.

I figure this is another one of those 'Large Pinch of Salt Polls".

The minimum salary is fixed by the goverment in accordance to regions. The highest is around Bangkok/Samut Prakarn etc. with Baht 184 per day, lower in the provinces, down to Baht 140/day.

There is no difference for Thai or non-Thai.

The ~ Baht 60,000 (it varies per nationality) is set by the immigration department in case a foreigner wants to extent the permission to stay by up to 1 year.

Journalists get a lower salary because nobody will pay them a decent one.

There are actually plenty of Farang working for less than Bt60,000/mo. The fact is that it is very easy for an employer to cook the books to avoid this. About half the Farang I know are around the 30/40 mark and the other half are on 60+.

The flaw in this is based on 3 things ...

1) the guy asking the question has already said in the forums he hates it in Thailand and doesn't get paid squat ....

2) The Poll is worded terribly (define income etc)

3)The poll doesn't specify ... people living in Thailand or not ... When i used to do the tourist thing ... add a RT ticket ... hotels etc ... versus living here :-)

I think it is a good pole. All of the new people asking how much it takes to live in Thailand repeatedly are given enormous amounts of money while all of us who live here are living on much less. A three room house costs 6000 Bhat a month for an experienced Farang and 20,000 for a newbie.

Well, when I was working outside the country, I was above the top mark if you include all my income.

Now though, I have to limit myself to only 2 Mia Nois (no Mia Neung though )

At this rate, soon I'll have to lower myself to living like a politician

It confirms what I have always felt about Thailand that there are 2 groups of farang thought living below 60000 baht a month and thought above 100000bhat

The market in Thailand set up for thought earning over 100000 baht a month just look at the cost of condos how could anyone in the under 60000 baht a month section afford one.

Also if there is a law why is it not enforced so that all farangs get 60000 baht plus they will still need many of the farang they just cannot run an international course at a Uni or a language school without them.

On Thai visa there seems to be a larger number of high end income people. Not many in the lower income groups.

I find it very unfair that the monthly income should be dependent on whether you have been employed inside or outside Thailand. Why should it matter the costs are going to be the same minus relocation costs for an overseas hire. This income gap is disgraceful and should be outlawed. How would you like it if you where paid 10 time less just because you came from another state and was hired in that state in your home country just an example.

Also why are the condo rental prices set so high that they are more expensive that a large family home in the inner areas of Melbourne or Sydney. Thailand is ment to be cheap these rents are higher than the rich areas of Australian cities. Bangkok is not a western city so why do they charge prices for rent and food that would be similar to what is found in any up market area of Melbourne Australia.

Its just a blatant rip off and does not make people feel welcome to stay for a long time in Bangkok.

Overall this whole post confirms many things about regular posters they are rich and think Thailand is great wake up its because they have the money to live like a king so of course they will think Thailand is great id love to see them do it on 30000 baht a month instead of 300000 baht a month and then tell me how much they like Thailand without the money.

I have a friend who pays 3500 a month for a townhouse near Bang Na.

I used to have a house for 7000 a month on Suk 101/1. Detached, next to a swimming pool, two bedrooms.

A dude living in a Bangna or Soi 101 roach/rat infested fleabag gets what he pays for. Living in Bangna is comparable to living in hel_l I would imagine. Me, I pay 60K for a Sukhumvit 200 sq mtr palacial condo and I get what I pay for as far as location and chicks. No chance I'd accept a similar place on soi 100 at half the price. Convenience is everything, by the time you shell out for transport and wasted time, you've saved much more than the 30K. There is no price for aggravation

The last time I went ot Bang Na there were lots of women - about 50% of the total number of people.

Some were very attractive too. 60k might get you a nice, central apartment but how can this get you chicks? Bang Na is a nice place.

How often are you actually in your apartment, wouldn't you be better getting a short time hotel every day to take all the nice respectable chicks that you meet?

Yes Bangna is a nice place sure but nothing ever going on. zzzzzzzzzzzz boring zzzzzzzzzzzz. How much time do I spend in Apt? Quite a bit actually. I will say this about Bangna though, It isn't 1/100 as boring as say isarn. LOL

I used to love reading these repetitive polls until I learned that self-reporting is the least accurate way to perform research.

Huh? What a strange question. Doesnt make any sense. I can make that money in both Thailand and overseas, but i choose to make it here because it gives me a much better lifestyle.

As for 36% over 200,000. It's 36% of respondents. Perhaps the lower earners don't want to participate in the poll.

I think many folks still receive overseas income as well. Even so, 200,000+ isn't so unbelievable when you're talking about expats in senior positions, specialist expats, and those in business (and I don't mean those renting out one room shophouses as bars).
