Embassy Back To Normal.

Featured Replies

Understandably, the Uk embassy is very busy after recent events.

Does anybody know or would be able to keep me informed, as to when the embassy starts to accept applications for visas (as normal).

As she is waiting to submit her application.

Cheers!

Look at the announcement on their website:

THE BRITISH EMBASSY IS NOW CLOSED

The British Embassy is now CLOSED until further notice for all normal business, including VISA applications.

We are now dealing exclusively with the 26 December Tsunami disaster, and are open on an emergency 24 hour basis for those requiring assistance as a result.  For Disaster enquiries please telephone: 02 305 8333 or e-mail: [email protected] .

28 December 2004. 0930 hrs.

I doubt that anyone knows when it will get back to normal.

It would be interesting to know what scheduled entry clearance interviews they've postponed. I'd guess they'd start resuming normal services by 13 January, as most of the living tourists are probably due to return to work on the 4th, and most of the rest on the 10th. However, the staff will probably be due time off in lieu.

Have you 'subscribed' for an e-mail alert when the embassy site's webpages change? See the section of that page headed e-mail alert.

It might be worth keeping an eye on the 'news' section at UK Visas.

If one takes the notice literally, what happens to UK and Irish citizens whose passports are stolen or lost in Thailand? Do they become overstayers when their visas expire? I doubt they can legally leave Thailand without passports.

I wonder how many other people are having their plans seriously disrupted. UK citizens about to marry in Thailand won't be able to because they can't swear out an affidavit of freedom to marry. UK citizens resident in Thailand may have problems extending their leave to remain in Thailand because they can't get documents rubber-stamped at the consular section. Ah well, I suppose just more disaffected citizenry MI5 should worry about.

I wonder if the KGB ever benefited from Mrs Clare Sakornpant's decisions!

Not to mention anyone applying for permanent residence in Thailand who needs to have documents certified by the embassy before December 30th. They'll have to wait another year to apply again.

They've now amended the above notice to eliminate this literal interpretation - see UK Embassy in emergency mode, or better still, the embassy's website itself.

My fiancée just got a call from the US embassy. Her visa appointment was pushed back from Jan 7 to Jan 26.

Normal??? When have embassies ever been normal?5555

I'd say for a while, we're just about to apply for my wife's visa and it's probably gonna take longer because of this disaster.
