Government has clear policy on war on drugs, says PM

BANGKOK: -- The Thai government has a clear policy on war on drugs and will continue to give its priority to narcotics prevention and suppression, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra announced here on Friday.

The prime minister vowed that decisive legal action would be taken against everybody found involved in drug trade and trafficking rings.

The Thai government would also cooperate well with the international community in drug prevention and suppression in all forms, he said.

Mr. Thaksin's remarks followed an official report that the US government had ordered a suspension of all assets in Thailand of Wei Hsueh Kang, a worldwide-wanted drug kingpin, and those of his relatives and aides.

The wealths in Thailand of Wei Hsueh Kang and his 11 relatives and aides reportedly include 16 business firms.

Mr. Thaksin promised that the Thai government, through the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), would cooperate well with the US government on the issue.

And hello... what about due process? I don't think Wei has been accused of anything in Thailand. A wise man once said... It is better that 100 guilty men go free than for one innocent man to have his Swiss bank accounts frozen.
