May 17, 200620 yr Couple of months ago I saw a thread that told us the current numbers were going to change with the additon of an extra 6 I belief? Anybody has an update on this? Jumbo
May 17, 200620 yr About September it starts, its an extra 8 for cell phones I am not sure for land lines
May 17, 200620 yr I was wondering about this too. I thought it was taking effect even sooner, but September seems more plausible than June anyway. May 17, 200620 yr Will this supposed extra digit go at the beginning or end of the original phone number?
May 17, 200620 yr Will this supposed extra digit go at the beginning or end of the original phone number? Rather unlikely that it would go at the end methinks...
May 17, 200620 yr (Pattaya Expats Club) The Thai Government have announced changes to the Mobile Phone Numbering System. It is planned to add another digit - an 8. e.g. an existing number (01 234 5678) will become (081 234 5678). This will apply to all providers of Mobile services. If you plan a change to your business cards, please be aware. The suggestion is for this to happen in 2006.
May 18, 200620 yr Oh great... I can see a monumental <deleted> up on the way ... totster What ever makes you think that? Remember this is only the first change.................. Land lines will also need an extra digit in due course.
May 18, 200620 yr It was june - funny how they like to not update anyone on their plans. Yes - me thinks too that a major blunder will occur and no one will be able to call one another.
May 19, 200620 yr Oh great... I can see a monumental <deleted> up on the way ... totster Not so long ago, Singapore prefixed a 6 to all landline numbers. It worked easily, because for a period with or without worked; then later a message would say "you must down prefix with a 6", so it was easy. But of course.....
May 19, 200620 yr Well, that's also how Thailand recently got their first change. Previously, if you called from landline to landline (within the same area), you only dialed 7 numbers. So, instead of 02 555 5599, you only dialed 555 5599. Same went for mobiles, but this limited the number of mobile numbers (there was only the 01 mobile group). Now, you *have* to dial 0 and the number prefix all the time. This allows for more mobile numbers (09, etc), but it's a pain. During the transition, they also had a grace period, and the message system, so I think that when the 8 comes into use, it will be the same.
