If you like the 70's style musice Roger Waters is very good.

As to what to do in LA....well the beach is nice I recommend Will Rogers Beach but several others are equally cool. Check out what movies and or plays are hot, you can do that with a google search.. After the amusement parks etc, try out the restaurants, hundreds are available I can give you some recommendations if you wish just name the kind of food. And of course check out Rodeo Dr. (unless you are very wealthy you won't want to buy there but the shops are very trendy, the customers interesting and at times bizarre). Be sure and rent a car because the public transportation sucks and everything is really spread and too far to attempt walking to.

If you are into museums, the La Brea Tarpits is a must see as well as the Getty Museum.

If you have the time you may want to drive up the coast along Hwy 101 check out the scenery and tour Hursts Castle, the mansion built and owned by the late newspapeer mogul. Along the Madona Inn, built on the coast overlooking the ocean is a great place to stay for the night. Every room has been designed and decorated differently with one room in jungle motive the other renaiisance etc. It is a pretty romantic place to stay as well and the seafood is okay.

There is a hel_l of lot more I could say but this may be enough to start. Ask if you want more.

Cordially,

Hunter

Bambi, top priority is Venice Beach in West LA. Dine in Marina Del Rey nearby. Check out Malibu, Zuma Beach is great there located walking distance to a nud_e Beach. If you have the time, check out Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. Do the drive from Hollywood to Malibu along Sunset Blvd, you will pass Bel Aire and Pacific Palisades. Go for a drive along Mulholland Drive and see the lights of the city. Drive Wilshire Blvd from Westwwod to Santa Monica and check out Santa Monica Pier area. No need to spend more than a night in Vegas

As for Waters, he kicks ass. Watch that "In the Flesh" dvd over and over. It is awesome

dont forget to do the Hollywood walk of fame on Hollywood Blvd. Other cool towns: Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Huntington Beach. Great LA eateries: The Pantry, The Apple Pan, Tommy Burgers, El Torito, Red Onion.

If you are not interested in American movie stars and American movies then Hollywood and pretty much everything to be done there will be very boring.

That's the biggest load of bunk I ever heard about. That's like saying if you don't like Tuk Tuks, then Bangkok will be boring. LOL. LA is a great place Bambi, enjoy. wish I was going

You sound like an expert there chownah. :o

LA can be great fun, I agree, Venice is a must see, I think Bambina will LOVE it :D

The drive up 101 is beautiful, my husband's favorite part. If you can make it all the way up to Big Sur the scenery is fabulous.

Never been to Vegas but obviously, the gambling there is fun. That said, we have friends who've been and said some of those big casinos are amazing, definitely worth seeing. The Bellagio, New York New York, and the Venetian. The Guggenheim has art galleries in the Bellagio, I think.

Agreed. Absolutely spectacular scenery. Or drive down south on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) alongside the beach south of LA (New Port Beach, Laguna Beach, etc).

And don't forget the Griffth Observatory at night (in Griffith Park in Santa Monica Mountain). Best night view of LA from there (or Mulholland Dr. where James Dean died).

Sea World, Coronado and La Jolla in San Diego (2 - 3 hours drive from LA) is also very nice to visit.

If you are driving to Las Vegas from LA you might also want to visit Death Valley which is also very scenic, though it can be a big detour. From Las Vegas you can go on a day trip tour of Grand Canyon on scenic flight (on twin propeller plane) that flies through the valley (if not over).

For shopping I'd recommend South Coast Plaza in Orange County or Westwood Village.

Gambling? I lost a lot of money in Vegas and not with gambling. Got married there :o:D and my dollar is only worth 20 cents since then. Half of the place consists of Wedding chapels.

OK, I don't complain, that was nearly 30 years ago and still married with the same wife.

BambinA, not saying you should do it, but Vegas or better, Nevada, is easy, if like us, come from two different countries and live in a third. Usually, you would need tons of papers, the first ones will be expired when you get the last one. In Vegas it's passports and that's it.

OK, a credit card and a tip for the priest. :D

Roger Waters? Not much I know about him but go there and enjoy.

Not much to add, I live in Southern California where you would be headed. All suggestions are good.

October is early for snow, but the mountains nearby LA are beautiful, Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead.

There is no place like Las Vegas in the world, even if you are not a gambler. Limosines are not too expensive, and to take one down the strip at night is fantastic. The laser light show is also great to see.

California has many diverse cultures so it is great to see the different places.

I'm happy to respond to your post, and answer any local questions, been admiring your avatar for a long time :o

While in LA, rent a Mustang convertible. Or rent a Viper or Corvette. Drive em! Find out why LA has a car culture.

The beaches as mentioned above. Venice is good to see the many different walks of life.

Long Beach and Huntington Beach are also decent beaches besides the LA ones mentioned before.

Six Flags for roller coaster rides!! All day

Run with the Hash House Harriers. Many crazy chapters in LA area.

Check out San Diego. Go to an AMerican Football game including the pregame tailgate parties (food and drink prior to the game)

Vegas. Well, you can spend a whole week there if you had the money. Take a helicopter tour of the dam and canyon from Vegas. Listen to Sheryl Crow's "Leaving Las Vegas" at 3 am in some buffett restaurant.

The view from Mulholland is nice, but that's not where James Dean died. He died on Highway 466 (now 46), quite a distance from Los Angeles.

Bambi,

Read this thread, all these things are excellent, with limited time I would do Universal Studios, Disneyland and Venice Beach. Each would take a full day. One thing not mentioned is that things are MUCH more expensive than in Thailand. If you want more info PM me and I will give you my phone number in LA and you can call me when you get to LA. I live 2km from Universal Studios and I might be able to get you some V.I.P passes so you won't have to stand in line.

Roger Waters.

One of the founder members of Pink Floyd along with, amongst others, Syd Barrett, who recently died.

Comes from Cambridge and was a student of architecture.

His father was killed at Anzio during WWII when Roger Waters was only a matter of months old.

Pink Floyd's album "The Wall", written by Waters, was autobiographical.

I once checked his passport :o

Scouse.

Roger Waters is a true stage personality with strong views and lyrics.

His voice is mighty, but his type of singing is more like an actor speaking than a singer singing. I would not miss the chance to see a concert with him.

You will enjoy the experience more if you listen to some of the music and read the texts first. Asking here was a good idea. :o

I recommend going to Venice and hanging out on the Boardwalk...get yerself a teeny weeny bikini and sum roller skates and strut your stuff. Later go up to a fast food mexican place (there are lots) up on Lincoln Blvd and pig out. I lived a block from the boardwalk for four years in late 70s...a great place...

Mexican food. That is what I miss the most about USA.

You need to give fish tacos a go. Wahoo's or Baja Fresh is good, fast fish tacos in many locals in the LA area.

Authentic fish tacos are in Ensenada/Rosarito, South of the border in Mexico. Perhaps you should go one or 2 days to these party towns.

Carnitas - That is some good tender fried pork you can find in authentic mexican restaurants

Mariscos - seafood mexican plates, particularly the camarones (shrimps) dishes

Menudo - Great hangover soup.

Mexican Breakfast?? I'm glad you asked. Chile Verde smothered omelettes - yum. Huevos con Chorizo (Eggs with spicy sausage) - good too
