  1. Very good thank you for that, but I why do you write that a dish is very expensive ?

I think that you can buy a suitable dish for around 1000-1500 THB.

  2. offtopic2.gif

Reading posts makes me wonder, how many of you are using copied / illegal sw ?

I don't, everything on my PC is legit. Win7, Office, Visual Studio Professional, lots of freeware and even the music and the movies I watch, I buy legit.

    Just wondering...

WE buy PC's here that have copies everything. Get used to it. smile.png

    But I do buy PC's here that don't have copies ! wink.png

  3. I need new computer too. I noted electrical goods seem almost as expensive as in the West, if not moreso. Is is better to buy a new one in Europe and bring it into Thailand with you. I assume there's no import duty to pay if if over your shoulder in daily use? Anyone

I think if it shows a bit of usage they wouldn't be bothered but what if it's a desktop ?? How can they tell ? But then again would you be able to carry that one over your shoulder ?? biggrin.png

  4. This is a up to date topic with info on renewal

    http://www.thaivisa....icense-renewal/

But as your license has expired a year ago, it would be possible that you have to start all over again. So Computer test and practical. But you have to ask. I think you can renew your license (and not do the practical again) only if the license has expired less then 12 months ago. But not 100% sure on this one. Also as TiT, it could depend on which DLT you go to.

  5. I have renewed many times and never (even when the licenses were first issued) did I have to watch any movies.

The movie thing has only come in, in the last couples of years, on my first renewal didint have to watch anything

If I am not mistaken the movie thing is only required if you do a 5 years renewal, if you go from temp license to a 5 year one it's not required. My guess this is because after 5 years you could have forgotten some of the rules, and by watching that movie they hope it all comes back again wink.png

  6. I renewed my 1 year temp motorbike license yesterday. Showed up about 9:30am. I had the resident cert, health cert in case. Copy of passport signed. Only thing she sent me off to the copier for was a copy of the old license. Came back and went right to her desk, the big line (5 falang, 10 thai or so) were not happy seeing me head to the head of the line, but i made sure to ask her if i could before i left the line. She took my papers, stapled them, paper clipped my passport, gave me a red badge and told me to go wait.

There's a big red sign that says in english and thai that all those with a red card wait to be called. Just remember there is no digital screen like the immigration office that calls your number. You actually have to wait to hear your number. Trick is that the place is full up so you'll be waiting a good half hour, so if you don't understand any thai, you won't be able to hear your number getting closer.

Once your number comes up you go sit for your picture, then wait for 2 minutes at the little stool outside, and collect your new license.

Where was this ?? Because in Pattaya you would have to take the following tests before you get a new license.

    (Thanks Ling Kae)

    1. Sitting in the chair, light goes green step on acelerator and when lights go red put your foot on the brake ASAP and before it gets to the line. (you get 2 goes at this, if you fail on the second you go home.)

    2. Sitting in the same chair, there is a box about 1 foot square 5 metres in front of you. There are 2 pegs inside the box, you use a hand held remote control and you have to line up the 2 pegs next to each other in the box.

    3. The perifial (sp) vision test. Put your nose up to a steal contraption and when you see the lights coming from the left and right then you indicated to the tester when you see them.

    4. Color test. They do this by you looking at a small trafic signal box. The tester just flicks it through it's reds, yellows and greens and you say the colors you see.

  7. What should the reason be for reinstalling. I have Win 7 already running for 2 years, and never had the urge or the need to reinstall it. It's still as snappy as it was when I first installed it.

I only do the following to keep it that way.

    - I use a program like ccleaner to get rid of temp and some log files

    - Sometimes clean up the Eventlogs (not really necessary)

    - Have a Full optimize Defrag scheduled every week

    - Have "light" defrag scheduled to run when the computer is idle / running screensaver.

  8. Unless you are really into sport (I'm not) I found True to be a waste of money and cancelled after 6 months. The movies are all old and repeated endlessly, for 300 baht a month I find BTV (Banglamung) better value with later release movies. There are only about 12 decent falang channels including BBC, ABC, Fox News, Sci Fi, ITV and a couple of others, but enough for my needs.

But the problem with BTV is that it's only available in the area around Banglamung / Pattaya . So if the OP is not living in that area it's not really an alternative.
