  1. What's a phone-booth?

Here's one but why is it necessary for having a smoking ban in one of those, can you even fit more then 1 person in them ?

    its a phone box

    Difference in Language

A telephone booth, telephone kiosk, telephone call box or telephone box is a small structure furnished with a payphone and designed for a telephone user's convenience. In the USA, Canada and Australia, "telephone booth" is used, while in the UK and the rest of the Commonwealth it is a "telephone box" or "phone box"
  2. No Censorship by TV. I asked the MOD's to close that topic as it was resolved and the main reason for asking to close it was that it as always would end up in a ToT bashing thread and the Mods would have closed it for us.

No Idea what caused the outage, no idea what resolved it, but as always I am just happy that it works again. Fortunately I have the use of 2 Internet Providers, so if one breaks down I use the other.

I will just repeat what I said in that other thread:

I only wish that ToT had an Website of some sorts where they would post updates if there was a problem, but maybe that is too much to ask as TiT.

    :wai:

  3. To comply with anti-smoking legislation, Baht Buses and other public areas such as Bus Stops, phone booths and libraries are now non-smoking areas.

So that means, that every copper can squeeze a fine out of some one caught smoking on a Baht Bus.

You gotta be kidding me w00t.gif

Fortunate I quit smoking several years ago !

    Edit: //

I just hope that bar girls don't quit "smoking"

  4. ..........

Under "car" it says "temporary car", I don't know what that means. and yes, this is a one year license.

"Temporary Car" means that it is a a Temporary License (Only valid for 1 year).

I agree the wording is confusing.

After the year. you go back and without any tests (maybe only reaction and color) you will get a 5 years license, which will expire on your Birthday.

    Congrats with the license

  5. According to this post: http://www.thaivisa....e/#entry5027555 The impound lot is near Soi Korpai

Anyway, I asked where my bike was and they answered: "Soi Korpai"..........yes, I know Soi Korpai, but where in Soi Korpai (my tone got slightly more agitated). "Soi Korpai, here is motorbike taxi can take you"

    <snip>

My bike was impounded at a remote area in a Soi of Soi 1 of Soi Korpai..............hundreds of bikes were parked waiting for a re-union with their owners for the "small" fee of THB 400 each. Of course it was possible to get a receipt.......but then I had to pay THB 500. I dropped the 4 THB 100 notes before the lady onsite could grab them, so at least she had to work for it

  6. ^ Website link would be very handy.

    Edit: //

    Found it (I think) http://www.scb.co.th...-life-insurance

Didn't see much in the way of coverage and fees there.

True, but I was just trying to find the link to kamalabob2's text (Post #5)

And Kamalabob2 already mentioned that there is nothing of the sort to be found

This is from the Siam Commercial Bank web site. I did not see any links for coverage levels or premiums.

  7. The beach in Pattaya s_cks. If it ain't the hawkers or the Jetski scammers, it's the filthy beach that will get to you.

I only sit at the beach in Pattaya on maybe 2 occasions (and they are both at Night so you won't notice the filth)

    1) Loy Kratong

    2) New Years Eve

  8. Eligible vehicles include passenger cars with an engine capacity of no more than 1,500cc (including eco-cars) and pickups (including double-cab pickups) priced at not more than Bt1 million. Previously, the scheme covered only eco-cars and pickups.

pickups with an engine cap more than 1.5 ltr are included. i can read the above statement to read cars max 1.5 ltr no price limit and pickups to have any size engine put priced below 1m baht. does it read different to anyone else

In the Post where I got that Quote from (Link to the post is above the Quote in post #3), there is more info available. Even the original (Thai) text from the tax department as a PDF Download.

  9. How about this: The cops caught another Brit with coke, ganja and amphetamine he bought from a bar girl in Bangkok. They forced him to empty his ATM account which held 40.000 Baht. After payment he received the drugs back. When he refused to take them of fears to get busted again as soon as he leaves the police station, he was told: No problem you can keep because you paid already for this. If another cop catches you tell him to call us…

Sounds to me as Bar Stool talk. Was this is a published story ? If so, Link please.

    Edit: //

What makes it so untrustworthy is the combination of the drugs. If it was only Ganja .....who knows

The "show the cop" defense strategy works. A ticket received in Korat was accompanied by the advice that another ticket could not be administered for 24 hours and if stopped, show the cop the citation. Actually it was like 30+ hours later and the cop waved a free pass upon viewing the citation. On a long trip, 200 baht for speeding is pretty cheap insurance for putting the pedal to the metal with impunity.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Speeding and drugs ain't the same thing ya know.

    Edit: //

And did he get a ticket the first time he was caught with Drugs ??????? I sincerely doubt it.
