  1. True value have them, the version in wood 15000 Baht, the aluminium version 43000 Baht or something near that.I currently making one myself using those folding ladders you can buy at Homepro and homeworks for 2900 Baht.

By the way, true value is in Pattaya, but I think they are part of the Haefele group so you could try out Haefele.

Yes; Janverbeem is right; these drop-down Attic-Ladders (exactly like in your picture !)are available at True-Value Hardware stores; there's one in Pattaya and another one (much larger) in Chonburi, not far from Makro (and on the same side of Sukhumvit Rd.).

True Value Hardware Stores and Hafele are not part of the same group; in Pattaya Hafele rents spae in the TVH building (fist-floor).

As far as that incredible heat gathering under the roof in that roof-space (or attic/loft): Most Thai' builders "line" the underside of the actual roof with a layer of sissilation (an alu-foil sheet), which then virtually "seals" that 'sandwich' consisting of Roof-Tile <> Sisilation.

Now; since hot-air 'rises', this continuous building-up of hot-air is unable to dissipate; hence the uncomfortable effect AND your high air-conditioning bills !

The interestig thing is that all Roofing-Tiles manufactured in Thailand are specifically designed to be "Self-Venting", so the LAST thing one should do, is to SEAL them from below !

It is much more effective (and considerably cheaper !) to NOT install that 'under-roof-alufoil', but instead place 2"~4" Thermal Insulation 'Blankets' (Fiberglass-wrapped-in-Alu-foil) on top of the ceilings of the dwelling. This renders a FAR better insulation for where you NEED insulation, namely in the rooms where you live & sleep.

In addition; it is useful to have venting (allows air to circulate)in that attic/loft space, by installing perforated soffit-boards at opposing ends of the dwelling.

If anyone would like some details of the above, just PM me,no problem.

In the entire 'Thermal-Insulation Game', there are three (3) types of "heat" to combat:

    1. Radiation (Accomplished by Reflective Materials, such as Alu-Foil)

    2. Convection (Accomplished by Heat-Transfer Preventor (such as Fiberglass)

    3. Ambient Temperature (Keep doors & windows closed when air-conditioning running)

Now; don't forget: It is 7x more expensive to COOL a liquid or a gas, then it is to HEAT them to the same degree ! !

That's why, in Thailand, it is very important to have the correct Thermal Insulation installed, if you want to save a considerable amount of money !

    Cheers

  2. Hi, I have got exactly what you are looking for.

Just PM me and I will give you his particulars, okay ?

I've been using this builder for many years on many projects

and he is very reasonable and does an outstanding job.

He is currently finishing a substantial job in Hua Hin and has his entire team

    there.

    Cheers,

  3. Shows how out of touch the Thai Visa news section regulars are with the opinions of the majority of Thai people IMO.

Great day for Thailand - putting the military and elite firmly in their places once and for all.

Thaksin is the elite. And now expect Thailand to be under his one family rule for decades. North Korea, Thai style. Be afraid.

Right. The Thai have just chosen a new master same but worse than the old master.

If it is true that Asian cultures can't help themselves but to choose to be led by authoritarian masters, OK, but why choose such a clearly corrupt one? There is such a thing as benevolent dictatorship. That's not what Thais are getting here. A historic day, NOTHING to celebrate now, but the snookered masses will need some time to realize that.

A Benevolent Dictator . . . . .indeed is what is badly required here, but do you KNOW one (anywhere in this world) ? ?

  4. [i think some people are jumping the gun on this one a bit; of course condolences to those directly affected, but to immediately assume the accident is a result of poor driving standards is unfair - for all we know it could have been caused by some other reason like brake failure or swerving to avoid a dog. The driving standards are not good in Thailand, but that doesn't mean that every accident is down to them. Accidents happen unfortunately, and they happen everywhere.

The only part I agree with would be the statement that "Accidents Will Happen"; however "faulty Brakes" and "Swerving to avoid a Dog" are totally unnecessary, because The brakes should be inspected regularly; so that one's off the table and "swerving to avoid a dog" is a No-No and part of the 1:1 of "Safe Driving" ! ! !

A previous poster hit the nail on the head: the Government MUST start to enforce the rather brilliant laws we already have; but it's the 'Corruption Factor' which allows people to circumvent the system, yet again.

I've said it many times before: they should start with the Mufty-Cop-Patrols and patrolthe Highway & By-Ways of the Kingom: they WILL see what you and I see every minute of the day or night:

1.Drivers sticking to the fast lane at low speeds

2.When changing lanes, or turning-off; nobody uses their signal lights

3.Dangerous Drivers are (literary) getting away with murder here; but should be pulled off the road and prosecuted according to the law

4.Headlight-Beam Control Stations (so easy to set-up in an ad-hoc fashion)

5.Car Dealers should be forced to check any vehicle that comes in their shop for 1) Brakes & 2) Headlight Beam height at severe penalties for failure of doing so.

6.Mobile Alcohol & Drug-Testing should be wide-spread (again; so easy to set-up in an ad-hoc fashion)

and probably a few more likewise sensible and highly desirable measures.

The funny thing about these measures would be that the cops would not have to extort money from road-users anymore, because the income from fines would be an gigantic pile of money ! ! ! ! and Legally obtained at that ! ! ! ! !

What the Problem Is ? ?

Time for the Politicians to GROW-UP and do the right thing, before too many more lives are lost: isn't that their job and duty ?!?!?!?

  5. One thing I can tell you is that (many people don't know this)Thailand is the only country in the world which produces ALL the seats (MB-TEC;Leather)for ALL Mercedes Benz models manufactured anywhere in the world.

I happen to also know, that there are many factories involved in the manufacture of Car-Seat Covers, ranging from the very basic to the super luxurious.

If you want additional information, just PM me or send me an e-mail on [email protected] and I'll try to point you in the right direction, okay ?

    Cheers,

  6. Dear Harsu:

I know very little about the fascinating world of serpents, however, there's one very strange story I heard recently from a very good Thai friend - and I find this as mystical as hard-to-believe:

A Tokay starts emitting a rather peculiar sound, which is, allegedly, intended to signal to a snake, that all is not well somewhere deep inside the intestinal-tract of said Tokay. The snake, thus attracted, appears in front of the Tokay and the Tokay "opens-up-wide" at which point the snake enters into the mouth of the Tokay and goes down deep inside this Tokay . . . . Inside, the snake finds the part which is causing the Tokay's extreme discomfort and the snake proceeds to eat this "part"; then comes back out of the Tokay's considerable mouth and both go their separate ways.

Apparently; the removed body part, over time, completely regenerates. - Also; if this 'mutually beneficial' event would NOT occur, I am told, then the Tokay would surely die.

I forgot to mention that I, in fact, witnessed this entire 'ritual' right in my back-yard and I was totally 'blown-away' by this totally amazing event.

Have you heard about this phenomena ?

  7. often thought about this one can showers be earthed, if you get answer to your question can you post result. i would alos like to know electritian who could earth showers.

Depending on your Power-Supply (viz."Single-Phase" or "Three-Phase"), what is required are respectively "1" or "3" Grounding-Rods.

In any event; yes, we have an electrical-engineer on staff (supervised by a European) who could very quickly sort-out your problems. Just PM me and I will come back to you.

    Cheers,

  8. Crumb. Upon closer inspection of my passport it does look like I have an 'extension of stay' a piece of paper stapled in that I need to report again or leave the country before July 13th and a stamp that says my visa is valid until December 26th, 2011. I can't believe how difficult this all is!

So do I go with the HR department to immigration when they cancel everything with my doctor's letter and hope for the best?

    Thanks!

If on an extension of stay it ends on the day employment ends (for last year or two - you used to have 7 days). If you can not immediately leave you can apply for an extension of stay and will receive 7 days for the normal 1,900 baht TM.7 fee. Believe BOI one stop is still allowing 7 days but for most it is leave immediately.

In posters case it seems she has a 90 day visa entry so should not be an issue.

    Dear Kaili,

The very first thing you have to do is "STOP WORRYING" - because I found myself in a very similar situation about 3 weeks ago.

I was absolutely frantic, because after being here legally (on work-permits etc.)for 18 years, I was suddenly an Over-Stayer

(4 days) !!!!! (Because some girl in the Lawyer's office overlooked my case ! ! !)

Your problem is very easily solved; do exactly what I did:

You Call a lady named "Pa", who heads the brilliant 1st Class Visa organization. Her number is: 086-147 16 18

She is incredibly knowledgeable and will have you back home on a legal (!) 6 month Tourist Visa before you know it.

She organized a comfortable and All Inclusive trip from Pattaya <> Vientiane: all the paperwork is done expertly by these experts; they've been doing this for many years and know all the relevant & important authorities (on both sides of the border) - you will be absolutely impressed ! !

Please don't put it off until tomorrow; contact her NOW and your stress will disappear, believe you me.

The reason I knew about this outfit is because about 1 1/2 years ago, my teenage son came over and stayed much longer than anticipated. Khun Pa (lovely lady !) had him sorted-out very quickly as well AND without any stress whatsoever.

By the way;the website is: www.1stclassvisaruns.com

    You'll be fine !

    Cheers

  9. I am sorry to have to break i to you; but Khun Thaksin is NOT a Ltnt.General:

Just for the record;this is the synopsis of Thaksin's Police career.

    Police career

Thaksin Shinawatra was a member of the 10th class of the Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School, and was then admitted to the Thai Police Cadet Academy. Upon graduation in 1973, he joined the Royal Thai Police. He received a master's degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University in the United States in 1975, and three years later was awarded a doctorate in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University in Texas. Returning to Thailand, he reached the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Policy and Planning Sub-division, General Staff Division, Metropolitan Police Bureau, before resigning in 1987 as a lieutenant colonel. His wife, Potjaman Damapong, is the daughter of a police general.

  10. Well he may have tagged the wrong city, but Russians have been rated the #1 worst tourist in the world.

    http://www.tourismandaviation.com/news-460--why_do_russian_tourist_bahave_badly_abroad_

To all of you 'bigots' I have just one thing to say: "It only takes One (1) decent Russian, to totally destroy your statement that "All Russians" are 'bad' ! !

There is something "good" in everyone; the trick is to find-out what it is ! !

Stop discriminating and perhaps take a good hard look at yourself first, hey ?

    ;)

    I'm certainly not perfect either ! !

  11. There are Filters and then there are "Filters". The only safe "water-purification" method you should consider, is a so called "R/O" System. This means "Reverse-Osmosis". If you purchase a R/O system (talk about Bt. 10~12K) then you can rest assured that your'e drinking safe water.

We've had this system (Unit under the sink, with a special "Drinking-Water-Tap" on the top) for many years and with great success !

You must insist on the R/O System, everything else could be very dangerous !

    Hope this helps ?

  12. I like khun Samart, I met him last week at the game.

He is a very nice, kind and gentle person.

Out of politeness I won't open a book about some other candidates here.

Don't underestimate the Chiang Rai electorate! They surprised before ...

    Limbo :yohan:

    Hey Limbo ! ! ! !

Geez; keep running into each other in many places and on many occasions, hey ?

Ha,ha,ha: do you know when a Politician is lying ? ? ? When his lips are moving ! ! !

(oh; and this is pretty much a Universal phenomena)

    :D

    Cheers,

    JaapFries
