Still so many locals wear masks. My wife does when she's on the motorbike, and she claims it's to protect her skin from the sun. Recently in Vietnam and Taiwan i saw the same.

Drunk Drivers Face Morgue Visits in Thai Road Safety Push
2long replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From my experience of Thais' reaction to blood, violence, death etc, it would have zero effect on their behaviour. In fact, I feel many might even enjoy the experience. -
UK Drug Dealer's Hidden Thai Cash Seized After M6 Arrest
2long replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I once sent my wife out on the game, as family finances were at an all time low. She came back in the morning looking a bit worse for wear, but with a bag of cash. In total she had 5,050B! I asked her which tight bugger gave her the 50B! She said 'They all did' ππ«£ππ₯±- 40 replies

They're not real. They went viral this week, but it's AI. You can enter your own details/features and ChatGPT will make one just for you. -
Former Israeli Commando Arrested for Illegal Tour Guiding on Koh Phangan
2long replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
I like the word Commando in the headline and 'special forces' in the first sentence, when it appears we only have his word for this. Taking into account that military service is mandatory for our chosen friends and (like here on AN/TV) it's not uncommon for people to claim to be something they're not, it's likely that this chap is/was nothing of the sort or special. However, I'm happy to be proven wrong and he might well be an ex something special. -

Foreign Tourist Punches Thai Driver During Heated Argument in Phuket
2long replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
While reading the start of the report I thought it sounded a bit 'pro Thai van driver' and was about to comment that we don't know what happened 'before the merging' and how the van driver had been behaving. then I watched the clip and OMG. that roid thug really is a nasty piece of work, and if the locals don't find and get to him first, the legal system will. I'm not generally one to jump on the band wagon, but this prick needs to be taught a lesson. -

I'm not sure that the police need to close the road, take blood tests or watch CCTV. All they need to do to get the facts is scroll through this thread, filled with expert options, and facts! -
Tourist Sparks Outrage in Phuket Over Throwing Fake Dollar Bills - video
2long replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Sadly, the world has become what it is. People only really 'enjoying themselves' if they can post it online. Or people's behaviour too focussed on entertaining others, often for financial gain via likes, followers etc. Back in my day we did lots of crazy sh*t that just became stories to laugh about later. I hate it when these reports have to have a dig about 'Thailand's current visa rules' because in my humble opinion, an idiot who will misbehave abroad is more likely one who is only in the country for a short time, not more than a month. You only have to look at members' posts here to see the general attitudes and opinions of long timers. Therefore, I feel that the longer you stay in a country the less likely you are to flout its laws and customs like a fool. Just my opinion, though. -
It's not just 'make the farang pay.' A lot of Thais in situations like this know who invited the group and that person is expected to pay. Japanese, on the other hand, are the complete opposite. In fact, here in Thailand, sometimes it's seen as causing loss of face when trying to discuss who's paying or trying to chip in Yes, there are always people who 'know that so&so is paying so they load up on ordering and may invite others. There is a big culture difference between what we expect and what the locals expect, and do. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but you should have paid for the whole bill, as was expected of you. And maybe managed the situation at the time by clearing it with her about 'who's in charge.' There's no mention of whether or not your wife was there to help.

I like the ones written in Thai declaring that the car is a different colour than you can see. This happens when a monk or fortune teller advises the person to drive a particular colour car for good luck. So these people are stupid enough to - pay and believe these fortune tellers - believe that the colour change will help - believe that whichever divine being grants us luck can read Thai but is both colourblind and stupid

DTV SUCCESS!! Hereβs my story, but firstly I want to say a huge thanks to those who had positive advice. @Briggsy @BrandonJT @farang51 @CK1980 @DrJack54 It's greatly appreciated! ππ»ππ»ππ» Saturday 15/3: arrived in HCMC Sunday 16/3: applied online Monday 17/3, just after 5pm: I got what appears to be an automated reply. Saying the followingππ» Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letter : A deposit account shows the transactions last 6 months and the account balance or a combination of a deposit/saving account totaling not less than 500,000baht. Stock/Crypto/Bitcoin/Investment/Business/PayPal account and sponsor are not accepted. Other request documents: Provide details about your current work, including your CV/portfolio, the work examples and supporting materials that demonstrate your experience and qualifications. Other request documents: Provide a business registration and company profile that includes details about its history, vision, mission, products, and achievements. I had already shown the funds, but sent more documents, plus what they wanted in sections #2 & #3. Monday 24/3 (a week later), at midday: Application approved. I applied based on being a 50% owner of a UK registered company connected to tourism in Asia, and the need for working remotely. Everything I submitted was legitimate and up to date, including the proof of funds. As another poster previously mentioned the file upload options are limited and you only get one chance of one file per section, of three sections. this goes for the original application and the follow up. As advised by that kind poster, I used https://combinepdf.com/ to create PDFs to fit. SCB bank statements come in email but are password encrypted, but if you open with your password then try to print, but choose download, you have a nice bank statement PDF that can be opened by anyone. π My history: 50+ year old Brit, having been here for 25 years, 24 of those on a Non-B WP for the same company. Followed by 10 months of (8x) visa-exempt entry stamps which were NOT 24-hour border hops, but 3 days to more than a week to a selection of countries in Asia. My final / most-recent arrival got a questioning-look from IO at DMK, but I showed evidence of a flight out of Thailand in 6 weeks. Arrival at DMK, there was no queue at immigration, and the nice young female IO took some time to diligently check a few things, and stamped me through for 180 days. Just in case I was asked, I had evidence of a flight in July. But she asked for nothing. HUGE THANKS AGAIN guys! ππππ»

German Tourist Severely Beaten in Pattaya by Group of 10 Men
2long replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I am not a violent person, and would almost certainly lose a one-on-one fight with most locals. But even if I was in a position to win, you never win. They come back. If my friend was in the wrong, and gets thumped by one guy, then my friend deserved it. I would never jump in, just because he's my friend. If some random fellow compatriot was in an altercation, I would never just piled in, feet first, with other friends, outnumbering the fight. But that is exactly what I have seen so many times here. The Thais (and Cambodians, Burmese and some other nationalities) will see a fight and just choose their side and pile it, with feet and or weapons. Just like dogs, except dogs know when to stop. -
I'm currently waiting in Vietnam for my DTV application approval or rejection. Just in case I don't get it, a retirement visa is an option. Would I be better off doing it from outside Thailand, or as DrJack has advised recently in other threads, enter on exempt and go to my local IO (Nonthaburi)? I have enough THB in a Thai bank, but not all of it came from abroad. It also came in bits over the past 10 weeks. I have never had a retirement visa before, and not sure about health insurance or other docs. It sounds easier than a marriage visa regarding paperwork required. Confident and hoping the ever-helpful @DrJack54 will pounce here. Thanks in advance, and I hope this info isn't required by me... but who knows until the DTV gets answered.
