  1. In 2002 mass tourism was very much there, and so were the touts offering anything and everything. Local mafia rules mean that the 20B needs to be collected on the island, and not added to the ferry ticket. Bear in mind that electricity on the island is more than the mainland, and getting (and keeping cold) drinks such as water costs more than on the mainland. Therefore, prices are higher. This is a sad but unavoidable case of somewhere getting too popular for its own good, and it happens all around the world. I lived on Phi Phi during the filming of The Beach movie, and ever since then its popularity has sky rocketed.
  2. It's not 'breaking barriers' it's just another human with two arms and two legs getting a job. All the time we go on about women or people from other races / minority groups we are effectively reinforcing the issue. Women are humans and so are black people. Why do we have to point it out every time these people achieve something?
  3. It works because greedy stupid people hand over money to greedy sneaky people who are clever enough to create the scam, but stupid enough to eventually get caught. A fool and his money are soon parted. Idiots are being born every day, so this (sort of thing) will never end.
  4. Why does the report refer to expats / expatriates, when surely it should refer to all non-Thai nationals / all foreigners?
  5. This is the new fashion, along with moustaches and mullets. We old fellas are out of date.
  6. I wonder how it would work when the culprit has money and a nice German car. No way a lowly traffic cops will take that. #anotherpipedream
  7. No Thailand doesn't battle a Covid surge. Some people benefit from scaring the public. It's all a lot of nonsense.
  8. It's 2025! The muppet doctors just want to be in the news. Anyone who didn't die of Coved last time won't die this time. Move on.
  9. Considering the distance, and the amount of people that the can attract to pay, I feel a one-stop flight is always the best option. I find Emirates hard to beat. I'm in the UK and came on EVA, who I love.
  10. Vancouver was in Canada the last time I checked. You wrote "when will there be direct flights to canada?... never i guess" but didn't specify your preferred city.
  11. Let's throw another shrimp on the barbie, shall we?
  12. I had to wait until the 8th paragraph to get to the GoFundMe bit. Why call him a Welshman, but other times use the word Brit/Briton/British, for example when English? I don't care, but am just curious why.
  13. I wonder what one's "I'll suffer the financial loss rather than admit to what I was up to" limit/price is. 🧐🙃🤫 Asking for a friend.
  14. Although I disagree with some of the categories for getting a DTV (cooking class and 'influencer' for example) it's perfect for digital nomads. But as @NoDisplayName rightly points out, any genuine applicants shouldn't be 'just over the border waiting to be let back in, trying not to spend all their money.' I have a DTV and I really hope that the bad eggs don't ruin it for those who deserve it from merit. Let's hope that, as others have suggested, the delays are partly due to bad applications. Although I feel it could be the consulates and embassies not being as fantastic as the Thai guys at HCMC.
  15. Is it clear who was on the loudspeaker and who complained? In any case, the old bitch in lilac needs to be thrown off a moving train.
  16. I get the feeling his thread title is clickbait and the whole thread smells of troll. And local HIV 'outbreak' isn't easy to know about or report because the virus takes years to rear its head and become known. I think the OP just wants some attention, and succeeded.
  17. Overpriced Datsuns, and not very 'sleek'
  18. I'm currently in the UK, in a nice area down south, on a month's vacation. Every year prices are going up (except petrol recently) and shops are closing. If it was for the UK's great weather, delicious food and beautiful girls, I would hand my passport back. Oh, hang on a mo! 🙄🙃🧐
  19. 3 minutes, but it was doggy style, so it counts as 21 minutes (doggy years)
  20. I have ridden bikes in BKK for more than 20 years. If I ride locally, I don't wear a lid, but on bigger roads... always! We all know 'it's a risk you take, and it's your life/head/brains.' We all know the cops here are corrupt and lazy. I like the way Vietnam sorted the problem almost overnight. However, Vietnam isn't Thailand. There's as much chance of this working NATIONWIDE and by all people and at all times (like in Europe) as there is of stopping Thais gambling, lying, going to the temple, cheating on their wives blah blah blah. It's just the way they are. And let's face it, many of us who live here live here and love it because of how they are. Things won't change, and it's sad that too many people die on the roads, but the corruption and law breaking and innocent dishonesty is what makes the people of this country great.
