I don't think Thais are particularly security conscious, and rather lackadaisical about locking up when they pop out. The standard pressed metal sliding windows have often not been fitted properly and can be lifted out of the frames, roof tiles can be pushed back to get over ceilings. In the case of a farang friend of mine his security bars, the fitting screws were left exposed, so it was simply removed. A simple crowbar is more than a match for most houses.
