  1. Started a bit of a scrap on Soi Pothole a while back, and a ruckus in a Bua Khao bar as a guy was recording inside one bar. I really think I should have some expectation of privacy and these goons should get a proper job or hobby!
  2. I suspect we would have even more cases of traffic going the wrong way if that were the case! A U-Turn was taken out on Hwy 36 near the Transport Office.... a few too many deaths one suspects, although the one close to Sukhumvit is also a death trap. Where is this Sun Ruam Lek junction by the way? I searched on Google Maps but it didn't come up, guess somewhere between Huay Yai and Laem Chabang!
  3. On the beach there? I guess there are still some Australians who might bring their girlfriends, but the topic isn't about them.
  4. That does not mean the truck did not pull in front of the motorcycle in the slightest. He should not pull out if that would require the motorcycle to brake or evade. The reality is trucks mostly do. Near where I live trucks actually do this slowly, force the traffic on the highway to come to a stop, and seemingly help all those waiting for the U-Turn to get across, I have the misfortune to live near Hwy 36, lots of HGVs, and U-turns. Not saying a few motorcycles don't try to nip across a bit late, but reading the above i don't get a sense of that.
  5. IIRC the early rules for a Pelican crossing were that for blinking amber, traffic had to wait for pedestrians to finish crossing, but could move when clear. It was quite civilized and from a more tolerant time!
  6. If that long, the great sand washing rainy season is just around the corner.
  7. As to the luggage queuing, grab an ear and put them back behind you.
  8. Most vehicles will pull out Infront of a motorcycle, part of the might has right rules. a motorcycle rider needs to be ready for it. I wonder if the lorry driver will receive any punishment.... banned from HGV driving might save a few more lives.
  9. I would be more likely to say the beach was destroyed. When it used to be smaller and had tree shade it was better. Now it is like a Saudi Rub al Khali, baking hot, but good for fireworks displays and music festivals. The promenade, well it crumbles and is rebuilt on a regular basis.
  10. I recall in early Covid days I came across a small group of locals giving out free facemasks. When I asked for one I was told 'only for Thai'. Ironic as the place was currently neurotic over covid infected Italians! We did get free vaccinations though later.
  11. When I first started coming here all the girls had a health card and you could ask to take a look and see when they were at least last checked. The bars sent them off once a month or so to some clinic. Not sure how honest or thorough it was... but I do not hear of it much nowadays. Perhaps some claims on a scrolling display in the GGB, but these girls have multiple daily customers.
  12. Oh the glory! But I suspect in reality my town would turn into a desolate wasteland. The locals are stepping into the breach somewhat. See large groups of them out on company outings, having kids parties etc, they are enjoying life and getting more wealthy. The foreign tourists aren't going to stop entirely, as we see India has taken over, a short 4 hours flight away, 6000 baht equivalent. .
  13. To say they do not help the Thai economy is nonsense.....there were 40 million of them! I don't expect those numbers to be quite matched this upcoming year, predictions are against it. Thailand is losing it's glitter, Now if they could get each of them to pay an arrivals tax, as part of the TDAC!
  14. I suspect it is subsidized for the locals at only 35 baht! I can't criticize a country for looking after its nationals over and above foreigners, I wish it was the case where I hail from!
  15. Don't let the trolls win!
  16. I guess his reviews carry as much weight as the other dozens of whoremongers who post on YT weekly! He does speak the local lingo but Hindi is more needed these days!
  17. Needs a flag and a truncheon then!
  18. I was going to suggest they give this nonsense a rest!
  19. The locals are not particularly thoughtful when it comes to throwing rubbish.... they pour out of their vehicles like a garbage truck emptying. Despite what the authorities would have us believe tourists do not arrive at Swampy with suitcases full of empty snack packets and beer cans and bottles. Those are domestic supplies!
  20. The peak tourist numbers came in 2019, by far the vast majority were Chinese. Followed by Malaysia, India, South Korea and Russia.
  21. But that is not true is it? It's all about numbers and the cheaper end of the market seems to also be the most populated. The fact they are less discerning and will stay several to a room in any old dump helps too!
  22. They are likely to leave a bit in there to keep things going. My main point is to beware of them as there are a few scammers. I had such a welcome to home owning in Pattaya as did my neighbours. Bzstards even took all the brass covers and access plates and replaced them with crappy plastic ones claiming they couldn't get them open!
