  1. @Ubonjoe , do you know anything about this? The worst part is "Have come to immigration". The whole point of switching from marriage to retirement is so that my wife doesn't have to take a whole day away from her work. TIA!
  2. You've only got one pair. Rutnin or Bumrungrad. There are so many different conditions. The expensive hospitals have the best modern testing equipment for diagnosis.
  3. Filling out this year’s form, I discover stapled a “Statement” form No. 3. It appears to require a guarantor for one’s application. Is this form necessary at Chaeng Wattana with money in the bank and all the other documents? If so, can it be self-certified, by me? Or do I need wife to fill it out? Or, best of all, can I just forget it? Thanks.
  4. Plenty of maskless tourists in BKK... Do they really not know?!? Shame!
  5. Well, yes & no. For almost all cases of deafness, hearing loss is permanent & irreversible. (They are probably hiding all those demented deaf people.) The 'treatment' WHO is referring to is hearing aids. I suffered sudden deafness the night of June 13; I woke up deaf in one ear on June 14. Tried everything, including hyperbarics. So I tested out a couple of hearing aids. The problem for me is that they amplify your own voice. Yes, you can hear other people better but you sound like you're shouting at yourself. I'd be most interested in 'hearing' the opinions of others in a similar situation. You don't know what you've got till it's gone...
  6. Even looking at these small numbers, Covid is putting more people on respirators than any other condition. It ain't over...
  7. Inexpensive? BTS, not so much. The colour naming convention is pretty hard to figure out.
  8. Crikey! Would like to hear more about this terrible tale. What vax? One ear, or both? Percent of hearing loss?
  9. I hope there's a new shelf after shelving burying that tangle of cables! "One 3.2km stretch of Udom Suk in the Bang Na area there were 428 obstacles and problems on the sidewalks." That happens to be the 3.2km I walk every week for exercise to grocery shop at Makro. Passable only with great care * attention. Heavy car noise & pollution, too. Lots of the side sois have no sidewalks at all. Pitiful...
  10. There was talk of a 300 Baht fee to be added to plane tickets to cover such scenarios. Sensible idea, too, considering Thailand is the road accident capital of the world. Many retirees are over 70 which makes medical insurance unobtainable. Govt should have a health plan which covers everybody at reasonable cost. If they want our bucks, we should be protected...
  11. A point which has not been mentioned is 'cage-free, organic, free-range, no hormones, no antibiotics' eggs. Best we've seen is Makro @ 54 B. CP "Export Quality" go for 82 B. Opinions?
  12. Entrapment, an American specialty, can hardly be called ‘capture’. The big boys don’t like competition. Viktor Bout was a street vendor compared to the McDonalds of the US, Israel, Russia and other arms dealers. As with the black torture site, Thailand was shamefully playing toady with the USA. Bout’s time has passed, in any case. I’m glad he’s back to his family.
  13. As an trekker well-experienced over four decades in Nepal, everything about this article is wrong. First of all, trekking is not hiking or mountain climbing. You have a porter (to carry your gear & guide) so you can enjoy the scenery. Trails are stony and sometimes have unstable scree, in rainy season slippery mud & leeches. But they are well-traveled by locals carrying essentials to faraway villages every day of the year. The Annapurna circuit is one of the most gentle and beautiful of all Nepal treks. Rhododendron forests in bloom, rock carvings & paintings, prayer flags, suspension bridges, donkey trains. And a new vista of the Himal with every step, a view nobody’s seen before. One can branch off to visit lamaseries, hotsprings and different tribal groups. I’ve done 14 days off the pavement…and back. Nor is November particularly cold; it’s not dead winter yet. And the altitudes on the Annapurna circuit are not especially high—it’s the foothills, not the mountains. It is most likely these unfortunate women were not fit and, as another poster mentioned, pushed too hard. It’s always wise to train for several months before a major trek. Want to talk hard trekking, try Mount Kailas! Annapurna is completely predictable. RIP.
  14. Bye bye, young well-heeled tourists... And a lot of old stoners, too. Wait, maybe we should just outlaw fun!
  15. American...altruism--not a chance! Into Eternity (2010)
  16. Unless things have drastically changed, the policy for Star Alliance airlines in business class allows two 70lb suitcases per person, plus several carry-ons which can be as heavy as you like. That gets you pretty close to 200-lbs. Just need a change of undies.
  17. Ahem, Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. I fed caviar to my girlfriend, she was a virgin tried & true, now that she has tasted caviar, there in nothing she won't do. Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. I fed caviar to my grandpa, he was a lad of ninety-three, then I had to rescue grabdma, he had chased her up a tree. Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. (If it smells fishy, don't eat it!)
  18. Riot police at Asoke wore blue & yellow scarves. Never seen these on coppers before. Anybody know what they mean? The inflateable dinosaur costumes were really cool...and highly appropriate. Xi's <deleted> is really, really clean!
  19. Same has happened to me for two years. Never any other problems with Thailand Post. Maybe SSA loses their own mail! In any case, it would be really hard to live without that $17/month!
