Two Thai women die during a mountain trek journey in Nepal
unblocktheplanet replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As an trekker well-experienced over four decades in Nepal, everything about this article is wrong. First of all, trekking is not hiking or mountain climbing. You have a porter (to carry your gear & guide) so you can enjoy the scenery. Trails are stony and sometimes have unstable scree, in rainy season slippery mud & leeches. But they are well-traveled by locals carrying essentials to faraway villages every day of the year. The Annapurna circuit is one of the most gentle and beautiful of all Nepal treks. Rhododendron forests in bloom, rock carvings & paintings, prayer flags, suspension bridges, donkey trains. And a new vista of the Himal with every step, a view nobody’s seen before. One can branch off to visit lamaseries, hotsprings and different tribal groups. I’ve done 14 days off the pavement…and back. Nor is November particularly cold; it’s not dead winter yet. And the altitudes on the Annapurna circuit are not especially high—it’s the foothills, not the mountains. It is most likely these unfortunate women were not fit and, as another poster mentioned, pushed too hard. It’s always wise to train for several months before a major trek. Want to talk hard trekking, try Mount Kailas! Annapurna is completely predictable. RIP. -

BKK to USA, Business Class, 200lbs Extra Baggage?
unblocktheplanet replied to kokesaat's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Unless things have drastically changed, the policy for Star Alliance airlines in business class allows two 70lb suitcases per person, plus several carry-ons which can be as heavy as you like. That gets you pretty close to 200-lbs. Just need a change of undies. -
Ahem, Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. I fed caviar to my girlfriend, she was a virgin tried & true, now that she has tasted caviar, there in nothing she won't do. Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. I fed caviar to my grandpa, he was a lad of ninety-three, then I had to rescue grabdma, he had chased her up a tree. Caviar comes from a virgin sturgeon, virgin sturgeon's a very fine fish, virgin sturgeon needs no urgin', that's why caviar is my dish. (If it smells fishy, don't eat it!)

Second Social Security Notice.

Same has happened to me for two years. Never any other problems with Thailand Post. Maybe SSA loses their own mail! In any case, it would be really hard to live without that $17/month! -
Despite all the posturing & vitriol, girls who have started menstruating have been you-know old men since the caves. I think the real questions begs, were they lured, tricked, conned or lied to. Are those 13 to 18 capable of deciding for themselves, about anything. 13-year olds have sex to buy the latest mobile. Have they had, as an OP states, had their souls destroyed??? Sex is used to sell all consumer products including people. These are kids who grew up with pornography. Did the john know she was young? Doubt it, just that she was available & willing, pretty much like every man on the planet, including the hypocritical moralists on TV. Thai police are doing what they always do, making a show. Everywhere else, it's business as usual. Do you really doubt that a brown envelope wouldn't have meant we never heard this story?

Our 24-year Thai daughter, a Microsoftie liviing in Vancouver since finishing university, is coming home for a visit. We have lots of paperwork to renew but we want to get her signed up for the 30 baht health plan while she's here. She's on my wife's house registration and will have a current ID card. Where do we start? TIA!

I like creative framing & mats. My old picture framers were great but their good staff got old & retired. Prefer Sukhumvit or Silom/Sathorn/Surawong. Don't want gold diggers, please! Thank you!

I was arrested in NYC. The first question they ask is, any scars or tattoos. Unless you're in the merchant marine or navy, tattoos are nothing more than an ugly scar. What's grandma going to tell the kids about her tramp stamp or the butterfly when her boobs are hanging down to her waist? Can you live with the same painting on your wall your whole life? Even the artistic ones make you nothing more than an Auschwitz lampshade. Be sure to put that in your will. My three kids all have tattoos. Just sheep. Tattoos are stupid & ugly.

Advice on chest freezers. They work best when absolutely packed full, unlike refrigerator freezers. Models can be standard or frost-free. We get ice build-up in our standard. But I've been told frost-free dries out the food you store, even in vacuum bags. Your freezer might be smelling a little funky after this episode. We did many washes & rinses with baking soda & vinegar. Don't use bleach! Even that approach won't get rid of the stink entirely. Get some bundles of the herb bai toey at Makro. Change them every couple of days, freezer closed, turned off. Then get your freezer cold & add a bunch of bai toey with your food. Works for fridge smalls, too.

Serious question. 33 years ago we bought a gas stove with oven. Takes a really long time to bake potatoes or beets, sometimes so long the tank runs dry. Any recommendations for the kind of oven to make those happen, casseroles, macncheese?
