  1. I have lived in Thailand for 10 years. And I am living in Thailand now. When I say that thai people are not friendly, i do not mean that they are not friendly in daily life.I mean something DEEPER.I mean they are totally uninterested in other people and cultures, I mean that they are totaaly selfcentered and lacking any form of curiosity for what is not thai.In my eyes they are the less interesting people i nSouth East Asia. This having been said, yes, they are EASY in daily life, nothing more and nothing less.In this respect I found Filpinos and cambogians much better and more interesting, much more' challenging' ( especially women...)

About Cambogia:yes, things are changing quick, my experience is related to a couple of years ago in the capital and Shianoukville, it's possible that things are different now.

I think this is a fair assessment .

I agree completely. I am looking at leaving Thailand after 24 years. That's why I am reading this forum.

  2. Thai Embassies and Consulates abroad to be stricter with requirements when applicants are applying for Tourist visas for Thailand.

Does this apply to "Visa Exempt" entry also?

What happens if the tourists are staying with friends?

Or if you are married to a Thai citizen and will be staying at their/your residence.

Too me this sounds like another way to kill tourism.

That's the idea. Thailand is for Thais. Welcome back Taksin Government

  3. So far so good closer and closer to dear brothers return

The wedding is in 4 months - chaimai?

Miitary Coup next month..... any bets..?

Well, we've heard about a military coup for a year or so now.

Nothing happened yet. The reds are in power, the PM is a joke, Surapong is already working for his master, so that Thaksin will be on his merry way back here sooner than we can think, and still we are here, looking at this country on its way to be the laughing stock of the world....

I think the world may stop laughing soon and start wondering why these adults act like children. Why the law is for a select few. And why a PM for any country would help a convicted criminal go anywhere but Jail.

  4. I'm sure that the Dems are doing what they think is best for the country - throwing it into political turmoil, destabilising the Govt, preventing them from doing anything that might be good for the country. After all, first and foremost, the LAW must be upheld, regardless of the consequences for the country as a whole. I'm sure many posters here would agree.

I agree with the article. They should have been seeking extradition not getting him a visa. In the west it probably happens. But it does not make the front page. Uphold the law or change it. Just like Taksin did before the sale of Shin Corp.

  5. When I see the garbage printed in national newspaper, when I read the defamatory (and mostly dumb) comments posted in well known forums, it actually makes me happy.

Why ? Because it proves we have freedom of expression in Thailand.

I really look forward to have July 3 declared National Holiday, Back to Freedom Day, and maybe, who knows, one day land at Thaksin airport biggrin.gif

I would love to see all 3..............in Moldova. You being there would be the cream on the cake.

I agree completely. And by the way Thailand has many area where you can not speak freely. Royalty in one, but there are many more.

  6. Poorly written article: former billionaire telecoms tycoon-turned-premier Thaksin. Thaksin was a milonaire telcom tycoon-turned-premier-with the help of his children-turned-billionaire. If they are intending to talk in terms that reflect what happened say what really happened. But aren't some assets frozen? So what does that make Mr T? Sounds petty as the writer may not like people who has more money then him?

Yingluck a novice? And what family did she grow up in, together with the position in the company? Yingluck has made her decisions within the time frame's permitted and is quite clear in the aim to re-unite the country. Nothing is being given away at the moment.

Am I the only one that saw her on CNN?

  7. The Shinawatra Family is back in Politics and things start to happen, all to their advantage. It is time for people who voted for Yingluck to wake up and realize what they have done.

Hopefully the people the election was about will start to get the message. The election was not about the poor. It was about the "Family" getting its feet back on Thai ground, even more rich than before. This is just the first of many shoes to drop in the next few years. I'm afraid all we can do is get used to it.

  8. That didn't take long.

When's Thaksin coming back in person -- next weekend?

Now its again very clear, what was the goal of the elections

So, you blame a government that's not yet in office for something the various junta-backed governments failed to do for 5 years?

I don't see any blame made here, just the honest truth. If this was a book it could be titled "The Rise and Fall and Re-Rise of Taksin Family in Thailand" This agenda was clear long ago. Now we start to see the outcome. And I believe they are in power as of last Friday.

  9. This illustrates just how helpful Thai's are not in these situations.

how do you blame to Thai's for not helping? I'm guessing the fact it was a luxury villa in Phuket would indicate most of the guests observing the incident would be foreign, so how exactly can you pick fault with Thais?!

and what exactly, would you have Thai's do in that situation? It sounds like anyone that had tried to intervene would have met the same fate as the poor Swede. Would you die for a stranger?

why do so many people have a go at Thai people all the time?

next you'll be telling me that no-one in England ever gets stabbed, and no-one in the US ever gets shot...

Where I come from in the good old wild west, the neighbors would have helped if they could. Stop and ask strangers if they need help at night happens all the time. But then I am from a state with no state taxes. And allows for persons that have not committed a crime to carry a gun at 21 years old. Smallest crime rate in the continental 48 states. Most of the rest of the world is just like here, Stand And Watch. Too Bad.

  10. PTP will be in power during economic growth phase of the world economy, everyone will be cheering PTPs economic policy irrespective of the fact it will be riding on the back of something they have very little control over.

It will be the same across the world, regardless of the policies of the respective governments has, even if it hinders growth during this time, growth is growth so will be applauded.

and they will probably deliver on the 300baht promise (and the other stuff), though i doubt they would have been able to deliver had they been in power 3 years ago.

In my humble opinion the 300 baht per day wage increase will only compel employers to reduce their staff causing an employment problem. But that's me.

  11. Is it just me reading wrong or do most of the news headlines today mention how either Pheu Thai`s promises made before the election won`t work or need a lot more thought put into them???

Is there a list of the promises somewhere so that we can view and tick them off as they are either delayed, kept or scrapped?

I am not a fan of the PTP, but let them do their thing. You know they can't achieve these goals. I know that can't achieve these goals. And they know they can't achieve these goals. Let the uneducated become educated the hard way. The people voted the PTP in. Let them be educated in what the PTP can or can't actually do. I guarantee that's what those poor people in the states are doing with the person they elected.
