  1. Hi

I came across a "world climates " site. Many about I am sure.

I thought this was good with regard to various areas/cities in Colombia, fair amount of detail.

On a personal basis I like warmth, sunshine and not too much rain whether visiting somewhere or hanging my hat for a while. Not high humidity though.

    Thailand vs. Colombia?

I'm posting this because it's both on topic and for entertainment value. I find both the interviewer and interviewee rather unpleasant (they're probably Thaivisa members, ha ha) but the guy eating the mush has spent time in both Thailand and Colombia. So he gives his subjective opinions.

I don't think they need to worry about being contacted by the Colombia tourism authority to do their next promo.

Reading the comments on this video is probably the best part.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj2KqT-m-H8

I watched it. Also took a fairly quick dislike to the interviewee, was going to give up just 3 minutes thru but did manage to watch to the end. He comes across as rather "full of himself "

Yes, the comments were good , as was your dry wit with your own post comments.

    Yes entertaining.

  3. That is quite some life story, was aware of some of it due to having read many of his posts. If not mistaken there was either an interview or article here on TVF some time back. I also remember the posts about the nearest neighbour being killed and Col having to overcome yet another hurdle of making himself secure.

There was plenty of good suggestions of ideas/help at the time.

Reading this latest full interview with more detail, I must admit I was nearly welling up at it ( tear to the eye, incase my term not understood.)

Then again I am a southern softie so not surprising.

Colin you are a very brave man.

    Well Done.

All the Best to you and your wife.

I'm also interested in the same info on pros and cons of living there. Also thinking of maybe 6 months of the year and if the south is warm enough in winter to get out and live life outdoors.

Just purchased my flight ticket today to Italy. Certainly not cheap. Have flown to Asia for the same price.

    Hi

I am staying in the north.    6 months of the year, perhaps stretched a little is OK climate wise.Cold winters though.

Far south would be OK for longer albeit some chilly times Dec. thru Feb.

Sicily might suit if you want winter and an outdoor life.

Whereabouts in Italy are you going if you don t mind me asking ?

  5. Is anyone interested in music ?

Latin American music is quite nice IMO and listening to music a hobby of mine.

I am not interested in sports, other than major bicycle racing, far prefer listening to music, watching music videos etc.

Link to a site describing the different styles of Latin America music.

Don't get me wrong, I love Italy. It's probably in my top 5 or 6 countries in terms of the amount of time I've spent there. But because of that, I also know the reality of Italy. I'd never live there, but will always be happy to visit.

    Hi

    Genuine question here.

What would put you off living in Italy ?

I am  here now and thinking of 6 months a year here, so not living here as such but that is mostly due to not wanting to be here in the winter months plus tax implications if staying more than 6 months.

What do you see as the downsides ? I know there are some.

Would be interested in your thoughts.

    Thanks

Taxi mafia guys like this POS, is exactly why I always use Nam's Taxi Service.  It's usually between 1200-1500 baht depending on where I go.  The typical Bangkok to Pattaya is 1500 baht, and her drivers are always right on time and very professional.  She has picked me up at BKK airport at 1am, without any extra charges, and I don't have to worry that I will be dropped off in the middle of nowhere at 3am!

I use a Jomtien based taxi service, have done so for years. Never been let down. BKK to Pattaya and vice versa.1100 baht.

Recommended the service and have booked for several friends.

    No website though.

if anyone has been there, how feasible is it to

use a scooter on daily errands ?

    Hi

You have an answer re. Portugal which I guess is the location you were enquiring about.

As to Italy, yes a scooter fairly practical for getting around. I am talking here of the north.

I stopped driving years ago and have not any desire to start again but the thought of a little scooter for getting around locally has crossed my mind.

If you can ride one in Thailand you would be fine here. ( Italy )

I can't comment on the rest of the country, but Pattaya has an epidemic with noisy exhausts right now. It has gotten so bad, that we have given up going to several open front bars, as it is literally at least one every minute howling by, making conversation impossible. Everyone here has been begging the issue to be tackled for a very long time. I just hope they don't have a couple of stops and call it a day.

Yes, noticed the same in naklua where I have been living, more noisy bikes and as you have said makes conversation difficult/impossible.

Yet naklua generally a quiet place ( away from the main road ) and part of the reason for me choosing that location.

    Hope the clampdown continues.

I live on Naklua Soi 16, which runs from Naklua Road down to the ocean and deadends.  I can show you two Family Marts that are only about 20 meters from each other--and both on the same side of the street.  I don't know how they both stay in business.

I live near there but not on that soi.

    Pleasant part of naklua.

Is it soi 16/1 that has the Lotus Express store with 7/11 very nearby as well as a Family Mart opposite?

  11. A good move on their part, I will admit never realised that a US national would have previously required a visa.

Within the LATAM region, British citizens get good treatment.

Brazil 90 days visa free with the option of staying another 90.

Colombia, Mexico and Panama also seem easy to stay for up to a total of  180 days.

Long haul for Brits. I would love a tourist visit, taking in maybe 2 or 3 countries ( those mentioned above )

Good UK winter destination for people such as myself who detest the cold.

Quality steak and wine another plus.

I was in Milan a few years ago and it was 50% Chinese, it seemed. Really sucked. Big dollar Chinese, too, all with the latest fashion accoutrements.

I am not staying in Milan, just used the airport.. Have visited Milan a few times,Italy as a country is the 5th most popular in the world for tourists( France no.1, Spain no. 2 ) Never seen Milan as 50 % Chinese but yes, it is a big money city as well as a fashion leader.

No interest in fashion myself and would not want to live in Milan. Costs are sky high ( accomodation )

That was a big negative in Portugal. Unless you are very lucky, your chances of finding a competent doctor for just about anything aren't good. The Algarve is probably the worst. It seems that the dregs of the medical profession end up there when they can't get work anywhere else.

    OK

Portugal ranked no 12 in the world by WHO.

    Far higher than Thailand.

Did you not know where the immigration office was when you moved there?  Of course all of your problems are your own fault.  I think you are an adult.

    Strange reply.

I am near to an IO but understand that others might not be so.

His problems all his own ?

    No I do not agree.

I could not really care less about teachers making some cash money on the side, against the law, yes but same in many other countries.

Oh the irony ! Your rose tints are firmly on as you desperately seek alternatives. :coffee1:

I think you might lack comprehension skills or some misunderstanding.

I feel Thailand is not for me in the long term future.

I am not desperately seeking alternatives.

I am in a better place right now.

If for any reason I was barred from re entry to Thailand I would not shed a tear.

I have many alternatives available to me.

Me and rose tinted specs is quite funny, you have totally misjudged.

Not in Thailand now not missing it at all but do have a return booked.

  16. I do not complain about Thailand on here, no point, the rose tinted spec brigade will simply abuse and troll you.

Currently out of Thailand for several months after having lived there 10 years and visited another 10 years prior.

Although I am going back to Thailand I doubt I will actually live there much longer.

Many other choices some of which are better.

    Each to their own
