  1. nope. the seven P's would have prevented it. Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents P1ss Poor Performance. it was six grand well spent. more than a few rounds of lady drinks for three or four girls including the naked candle wax showgirl. I'd do it every night but with the markets the way they are now ????????????????
  2. of course it's a "dictatorial command". but realistically what are you going to do about it, stamp your your foot and tell them that you're calling your mummy?
  3. I got caught out one night whilst on the drink in an upstairs bar on Patpong 2. six grand bar bill and all I had was my Visa debit card and a couple grand leftover from the previous club. they don't accept cards for whatever reason (no issue from me, up to them). I thought the cashier boss going to call in the security boys when I told her I was short. ok no problem you pay by QR. I was three sheets to the wind by then but I managed to pay the bill using the Bangkok Bank app. easy peasy. paying by QR code, what the problem is? ????
  4. sounds like you've never had a decent bottle of wine in your life. I'm a beer-swilling peasant but even i can taste the difference between a glass of Mont Clair and something slightly better.
  5. go on then, what's a CRU? wait I just googled it. it's just a short walk from my condo...so near and yet so far ????
  6. so why are you so anti-technology? even my dear old mammy who's 78 and suffers from all sorts of ailments including early onset dementia can use a smartphone. in fact she's quite happy with the hand-me-down S20+ that I gave her last year. she can even make WhatsApp calls. imagine that LOL. why just the other week she was able to talk to me on WhatsApp AND bring up the hidden text message with the OTP I needed to set up an automated payment for her.
  7. I don't think the OP is serious. otherwise he would have already investigated what types of credit cards are available here by looking at previous posts. then maybe posting his findings and then asking if anything has materially changed in the interim.
  8. I'm an "older than smart phone zombie" too. I grew up in the analogue age but since I wasn't born old I adapted once the digital age was upon us. that was back in the '80s when I first had a chance to play with an Apple IIe at school. adapt or be a boring old curmudgeon until the end of your days ????
  9. cheap feces is the order of the day on this website. run by poor people for poor people ????
  10. what's your guesstimate then? last time I was down there was a few months ago but I was chiefly concerned with getting plastered so I forgot to do a headcount ???? ps. there were a lot of Thais. if I had to guess I'd say it was 60-70% locals, not the other way around. getting a meter taxi out of there at 4AM was quite the task.
  11. thanks but I know all of that and it was covered earlier in the thread.
  12. two or three old farang dudes ain't gonna hold back the tide. but if you want to fight a losing battle then have at it.
  13. responding to the Luddite who thinks using a QR code to pay is the work of the Devil rather than a simple few clicks in an app. I speak sense brother, if you think my comments are stupid then there's something wrong with you mate.
  14. I don't think they really care mate. you're just cutting your nose off to spite your face.
  15. why? just use your bank app's QR code function and move on with your life. it's no that hard pal ????
  16. there's a few dudes in here that have done solar. they won't shut up about it in one of the other forums, Electric I think. not that I'm jealous or anything (I rent a condo in Bangkok and solar is a pipe dream) ????
  17. always good to have a chunk of cash as a fallback. the risk of robbery is very, very small despite what the chuckleheads would have you believe ????
  18. I've never been asked either. doesn't mean it never happens.
  19. I can't smoke, it hurts my throat an gives me coughing fits. hence I've never had a good experience with MJ. any idea if we can get those 'gummies' here in Bangkok?
  20. I worked for one of the insurers that copped it the hardest from the RC. one of the most incompetent places I've ever seen which is why I can't get in board with the Thailand bad, Western good whingefest. I didn't work in claims and I'm not a lawyer so I never had any reason to read a policy document. I always asked a manager or a sales rep to answer tricky questions about the T&C's. they weren't happy about that but the pol docs were gibberish and not something you should let an untrained, unqualified high school graduate interpret. the Sydney Morning Herald did a massive hatchet job on the insurer. I think the journo had an axe to grind with Which Bank?. they laid all the blame at their feet. at no time did they point out that ultimately it was the Trustees of the super fund that signed off on the policy document. the Trustees also went along with the claims assessments that were made by the insurer even though it's their responsibility to act in the best interests of their members. one of the big issues was the 30-year old definition of a heart attack. you're telling me that the super fund's lawyers didn't pick that up? gimme a break. yet no malpractice suits ensued, they just dumped all the blame on the bank and went on their merry way. obviously that doesn't excuse the insurer and thank God I was able to retire early from that godforsaken place and eventually move to Thailand. but at the end of the day I'm not sure what the RC really achieved. my old company still went on its merry way of wasting gobs of money by being totally inefficient before eventually being sold to China. nobody got arrested, nobody went to gaol, nothing really changed except that they lost a half bil per annum revenue (no lie) after the complicit Trustees dropped them like a hot potato ???? that's why I can't really get worked up about the "endemic corruption" in Thailand. same same but different.
