  1. Then you have to take a screenshot, run it through Lens, copy the text then paste into Translate. What a carry on. Even then you won't get the correct translation, Rama IV being a case in point.
  2. Are you thick? Google dumbs down the place names for a foreign audience. Soi becomes "aly" or "alley" which almost no Thai will understand. In at least one case it calls a Thanon a Soi, that road being Th. Lamphu. You're only going to know this if you compare the English version of Maps with the Thai version and get a Thai speaker/reader to assist, which I did last night just to make sure I wasn't spouting BS like most of the AN crowd.
  3. Thanks for proving my point. Google cannot be trusted viz translation of street names/locations.
  4. Guess you've learnt nothing after all your travels and "I speak to Thais".
  5. Thai people do. Getting the name of the location right is important when asking taxi drivers etc where you want to go. If I said "Rambuttri Ally (alai)" to the average person they'd have absolutely no idea what I'm taking about. Even if I said "Soi Rambu-treee" most would have no idea where it is unless I'm in or near that area and luck out with experienced person. Heck, a lot of people don't even know where Banglamphu is despite that being the old method of directing the drive to the KSR area. But hey, stay ignorant, no skin off my nose.
  6. Google is innacurate when it comes to translating certain road/location as I've already demonstrated. I'd provide further examples but I don't feel the need to waste any more of my time with simpletons.
  7. You hijacked the thread. I simply gave the guy the correct name of the purported location of the book store he's looking for. You've contributed nothing except to show us your ignorance.
  8. No, he doesn't have ฿10 mil lying around doing nothing. He's still working in Astraya and putting as much as he can in to his super fund, presumably via salary sacrifice for the tax concessions. If he's put his super into a low-fee fund with a good investment performance eg. AustralianSuper then his money is working for him, and at concessional tax rates. Dunno when he plans to retire and cash in. I also wonder if he's looked into one of those lifetime annuity thingies. I'm not of the age yet to have to worry about this so I'm no help.
  9. Seemed like a good place to start as the building has a lot of foreign tenants so I figured they'd have some experience with it. I seem to have forgotten to mention that I'm renting the condo on a one-yrar lease and have only been there six months or so. Don't know if I'll stay another year or not. Maybe I go to Pattaya next year, or flee the country to a tax haven ???? Ultimately it isn't that important to me so I didn't bother doing the hard yards and actually visiting the Khet office (Lumphini).
  10. Gonna be real hard to kill all the unter menschen. Y'all got the stomach for it? Or the bullets?
  11. That's was a very long time ago wasn't it? They went from 355ml to 330ml at least a decade ago, if not double that.
  12. Last time I tried to sign up with TrueMoney Wallet they wanted Yellow Tabien Baan or Pink ID card for us foreign types. Impossible to get as a tourist. Impossible for me also on 'retirement extension' as my condo office just laughed when I asked them to arrange it ????
  13. At the beginning I didn't know why the guy was using the term "Rambuttri Ally" instead of Soi Rambuttri. So now we know. And we've also established that Google Maps/Translate cannot always be trusted as it seems to dumb things down for ignorant foreigners.
  14. No, there is no distinction between Rambuttri Alley and Soi Rambuttri because Rambuttri Alley does not exist. There is Thanon Rambuttri and Soi Rambuttri. Period.
  15. Why would I pronounce "ally" as "alley"? I'm not ESL ???? Anyway why would I use the word "alley" to a tuk-tuk driver or indeed any other Thai person? It is called "Soi Rambuttri" in Thai so why would I try and confuse them? The transliteration of Rambuttri itself isn't tranny that close to the correct pronunciation so your just setting yourself up to fall by adding an unfamiliar English word at the end. BTW calling a Soi an alley, or ally if you prefer, is not even that accurate. The Thai word "trok" is closer to the definition of an alley than "Soi".
  16. I've yet to see any posts on AN that answers that question. The main thread on this topic in the Thailand News forum is about 60 pages of mostly speculation and misinformation. I can only speculate myself and say that the Revenue Department would count days in the same way Immigration does, ie. you arrival date is Day 1 not Day 0.
  17. It's not "more than 180 days" it's "180 days or more". Not same same.
  18. Google Maps is clearly wrong because it is not an "ally" it is a Soi.Try telling a tuk-tuk driver that you want to go to "Rambuttri Ally". Ally sounds like arai/alai in Thai so you'll confuse the hell out of him. Or her as the case may be, there's at least one female tuk-tuk driver in that area.
  19. I think you mean Soi Rambuttri. An ally is "a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity or struggle".
  20. So complain to Jimmy Donovan at TT if you're so upaet about it because nobody at AN cares one jot.
  21. This thread is about Hooters, not you and your neuroses. If you never went there then there's little point in joining the discussion.
