Open Thai Bank Account
Lemsta69 replied to UKPaul67's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Bangkok is particularly tough for some reason. You won't get a Certificate of Residence at Immigration Division I a.k.a. CW unless you have submitted a 90-day report and you can't submit one of those unless you're on a an extension of stay. You can't get an extension of stay without a bank account and you can't get a bank account without a CoR so yes, it's all a bit silly. Many folk claim that you can open a bank account on a tourist visa or visa exempt but when pressed they either won't name the branch or it happened in another province and/or was prior to the recent tightening of requirements. If the agents you have contacted can't help then you may have to consider opening an account in another province but that's a whole different kettle of fish. -
So do you recommend RAV Endpoint Protection or not?

@Maestrothis nice gentleman has some questions about the source of the documents in the helpful thread you started a few years ago. Are you able to assist him with his enquiry? https://aseannow.com/topic/981135-laws-regulations-police-orders-etc/

How are the visa rules now?
Lemsta69 replied to sweetserenity's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That promotion was only from 1 October 2022 to the 31st of March 2023. Visa Exempt entry is back to 30 days now, extendable once for an additional 30 days. -

I'm a peasant so fancy and fine mean the same thing to me. But I guess you can have fine dining, ie. quality ingredients prepared correctly, without fancy tablecloths and annoying waiters ???? I met a French steak chef at a nightclub in Bangkok last year and duly promised to visit him for a le steak at his fine dining establishment which happens to be a few minutes walk from my gaff. Then I looked up the prices on the internet and ordered KFC instead. Maybe when the markets pick up a bit more I'll bite the bullet and see what this bleu business is all about. I'm a fan of medium-rare Aussie Wagyu but I guess I could branch out just the once.

Aren't we supposed to ask for bleu at a fancy steak joint?

Correct. Also the conversion from BTC to fiat costs him a pretty penny because Crypto(.)com only let you do such conversions inside their app and not on their exchange. The spread for in-app card top-ups is horrendous, or was the last time I used it about a year ago. That, and the crappy VISA exchange rates make the fancy metal composite card a paperweight. At no time in the process he describes does the Bitcoin network ever get used, it's all off-chain and registered only in CdC's database. The merchant has no idea that crypto is involved unless they feel the weight of the card and start asking questions. Now if he said that he used the Lightning Network to pay the merchant I'd be more impressed but even then you're using a third-party and not directly interacting with the BTC network. And don't get me started on the fact that you can't get a fancy metal card if you're living in Thailand so one would have to lie to Crypto(.)com about one's place of residence to get one (and buy and stake a considerable amount of CRO to get all the alleged perks). We can't abide that sort of fraud now can we? What's next, using an agent to get one's "Retirement Visa"? ????
