    You're the one that's being silly. If such a rule was actually implemented how else could the Immigration folk at the borders enforce it without being able to see the person's bank account in real or near-real time? If passbook, assuming it is deemed acceptable, is not available and neither is phone banking then what other choice does the IO have? They'd either deny entry or hold you somewhere until you can provide the proof of ฿800k.

    Thanks for the reminder, i'd quite forgotten about OTC withdrawals using passbook. It's been a very, very long time since I've had to do that.

    I currently don't have an ATM card because the one I was given when I opened my account in Pattaya via agent was a Union Pay card that I never liked and came with a ฿599 renewal fee so I ditched it. Cardless Cash has served me well so far however I'll be getting a cheaper ATM card was soon as I get around to it as it's always good to have a fallback option. Or two, multiple redundancy never hurt anybody.
