  1. 2. But......you were right StevieH and I was too optimistic:

Webb DID ruin the final; he handed an absolute record number of yellow cards (NEVER on a final before) and more to the Dutch than Spaniards and spoiled the game completely; as if he wanted to make up for his first match from Spain against Switzerland where he made doubtful decisions also.

Well the guy who wrongly said the English kept making excuses for their performance, cant see the woods for the trees.

It was the Dutch that ruined the final for kicking shyt out of the Spanish, it certainly wasnt the referees fault.

I cant believe youre insinuating some kind of bias by saying the Dutch got more cards.

  2. I only watched the first half and the only card that maybe shouldnt have been issued was the one to the Spanish right back just after he'd booked 3 others for cynical fouls ... pity the Dutch thought theyd be better off kicking Spain off the park to get a result.

  3. He has been on every news show on TV and certainly doesnt shy from the media .. but English referees have always had arguably the best reputation worldwide.

don't think that's necessarily true at all. german referees are known as being very consistent as are most scandinavian ones. until calciopoli italians were probably rated the best in the game. pierluigi collina is still head and shoulders away the best ref to ever take charge of a match. uefa should have cloned him.

Us English have a sense of fairplay none of those countries have .... youve only got to look at boxing matches staged in these countries to accept this .... I'll take Italians and Germans have decent referees but all Scandanavia referees have minimal big game experience and several have been involved in seriously bad decisions involving England and some of our club teams over recent years.

Besides he must have been consistent and avoided major bad decisions in this tournament which have been prevelant.

    <br>Mancini says:<br><br>"England were starting to dominate.'<br>
<br>This is why no matter how much money City throw at the new season they won't win anything until they have a new manager. Or the current one pays a visit to Specsavers! <img src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif" class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":D"><br>
<br>Mancini has also bought Toure in to replace the holding player (Fatboy Barry) who gave the ball away to allow Germany to score their 3rd goal ..... Pity the England manager didnt have the sense to replace him.<br><br><br>
  5. While I don't condone his actions he was an easy target for the authorities.

I saw numerous incidents on the news of Thai's burning tires (many in front of policemen). Surely these incidents are far worse than an idiot mouthing off ?

Yes they certainly are, but they are done by home grown idiots.

No nation should have to put up with imports doing the same.

If only England would listen to such advice.

He did say he didnt think he'd get a fair trial which is probably correct aswell, but as someone who cant vote he shouldnt have been there in the first place.

  6. Apparantly landlords have historically got 10% rental returns PA, so this means that forever more they should get this amount ... despite the fact wages have not risen at the same pace as property in the last 10 years, but who am i to argue with these so called investors who couldnt think of anywhere better to put their money then in a badly built apartment at the peak of a global property boom to let it sit empty.

Im also looking for a 2 bed apartment in mid Sukhumvit but im not willing to pay 35000 bht for a 63m2 unit that costs 4.5 million baht that has no bathtub or oven, id go to 25k but no one seems willing to take this more then fair offer ... there are also lots of foreign run agents ramping the prices imho.

  7. Very good as a team but too many average players to win this tournament.

You are contradicting yourself. 11 average players as a team perform much better than 2 or 3 superstars in a non-team. I think this WC showed this clearly.

No contradiction there, the USA were very good as a team but didnt have enough quality to win it ... same rules apply to Germans.

  8. Apparantly (according to Razor Ruddocks documentary) recently retired footballers have the highest divorce rates in the UK

But Id be willing to bet the sterile University educated middle class girls who have time to write this kind of shyt would drop their knickers for any of the men listed in a flash at the remote prospect of becoming a WAG!

  9. I feel that there is no consistency in the refereeing.

There is consistency there has just been some ludicrous decisions in ths WC as there were in 2006 ... im sure the big decisions are getting worse

<br>I remain of the view that most highly educated resident farang in the liberal tradition are sympathetic to the red cause though with many many caveats.I am certain of this as of any opinion I have voiced on this forum.<br>
<br><br>We had this discussion before. When I said that most highly educated [and achieving] resident farang I knew saw the red movement as a sham, you responded sarcasticly, basically saying you didn't believe it. I work in Thailand among journalists and academics and have done so for over 20 years. My guess is you're retired.<br>
<br><br>I don't remember the exchange you refer to.Also with the greatest possible respect foreigners who are locally based journalists and "academics" are in the most part hardly high achievers. My guess, supported by a quick glance at your posting record, is that you are not mixing in the circles I refer to.But hey it's an anonymous forum - you can pretend to be anyone you like.<br>

  11. you're right about it going to the bank hansum, but you're way wrong about mascherano. he's the best in the world in his position and it's no coincidence that the clubs who want him are barca and inter. he's superb.

Fairplay i dont watch Liverpool too closely just from bits ive seen ... but what about Gerrard would it be seen as good business to get 25 million for him ...imho even if Liverpool werent in financial shyt theyd seriously have to consider such a bid for a 30yo as ManU have done in the past .. its only City Chelsea and Real that'd pay such sums for people his age.

  12. Appointment of Roy

    Yossi sold

    Next -

    Jonhson

    Masch

    Torres

    Gerrard

    &lt;deleted&gt;

If you could get anywhere near 15 mill for Johnson it'd be a good bit of business as despite what you paid for him he's cr4p at defending.

If you get the alleged 25 mill for Gerrard thatll also be good business for a 30 year old who looks to have passed his peak, but i can accept he'd be impossible to replace but its got to happen one day.

Mascherano isnt all he's cracked up to be either from what ive seen ... 20 million again would be good business would it not?

And 50-60 mill for Torres surely for half of that you can buy a sure thing.

The only problem with selling them is that the money will more then likely go to the banksters.

  13. the english league / FA had the opportunity at the formation of the premiership to reduce the league to 18 teams and install a winter break to give players more rest so benefiting the national team. they didn't do it because club chairmen are fundamentally greedy and driven only by money so saw reduced numbers of matches as lost revenues.<br />

But there are pointless group matches in the Champions League and Uefa cup that should go first, then make the crap National teams of European football qualify for competitions thus making less pointless qualifying games .... then if this isnt enough look into scrapping the League Cup.

You must be aware that in the winter breaks the clubs from Spain and Germany fly to the Middle East for friendly games so theyre certainly not putting their feet up.

Most the top leagues have 20 teams ... Italy raised it from 18 to 20 and won the WC ...... To take 4 matches away from top flight football in theory would take close to 10% of a clubs revenue, so no club is going to go for that ... plus fans would much rather 4 more league games then get to watch Man United against some team who came runners up in a non entity league, in a game theyre pretty much guaranteed to get a result.

  14. Abhisit is a Thai citizen, born in the U.K. of Thai parents. Thus, since he was educated at the finest schools in England, he speaks perfect English and thinks like a westerner.

Ive just heard him speak on AlJazeera and he certainly doesnt speak perfect English.

After spending that kind of money on an education im sure his parents were hoping he'd be as good a public speaker as what Eton is renowned for creating .... someone like David Cameron who'd have been at the exact same schools Eton/Oxford at possibly the same time .... Though as English obviously is not his first language despite spending most his early years there maybe he is more confident and comes across better whilst speaking in Thai.

PS i didnt vote for Cameron.

  15. Well, Fabio is staying. I for one am quite happy about the decision.

Maybe he's also been handed the agenda for replacing the old guard. We are going to have to be prepared to accept a long period of transition. But lets face it, it can't be any worse than the current state of things. Of the 'senior" players i'd only keep Ashley Cole.

I'm delighted with this decision.....over the moon really......Terry will be spitting out his cornflakes this morning as well so even better. :D

Long period of disappointment?.....oh ho carmine you mean failure yeah?......another 44 years worth with a bit of luck.....

Long period of transition. My main disappointment is that i really can't see those &lt;deleted&gt; at Soho Square getting there act together, identifying the root problem and restructuring the whole set up. They just seem to screw up serially.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1291591/GLENN-HODDLE-The-future-England-team-frightening-Our-game-needs-radical-changes.html

Glenn Hoddles seems to have a few good ideas here, they done a documentary about his training school and i take my hat off to the man for what he is doing .... but none of his ideas will happen though England is similar to Thailand with the jobs for the boys status quo .... I believe England spends more on Tennis training per person then any other and you can see how successful we are at that.
