An example of thailands attitude to testing.
Chatting with an ex girlfriend today, she told me a week ago she was feeling unwell sore throat slight fever general fatigue, went to the main regional hospital here in a major town in Issan.
Was told you have flu and was denied a requested Covid test because she hadnt been to the southern high risk areas and was sent home to the village with paracetamol and it was suggested she go and pay for a test at a private hospital if she was that concerned.
Her village had at least a dozen or so factory workers from the South visit over the New Year period.
Testing is being discouraged and not made freely available to the general Thai population.

Probably 0. They are waiting for people to turn up sick at the hospital to test them there.
That’s how they have operated the entire time.
Because of the stigma loss of face and 4k cost if not positive, the average poor Thai in the rural villages is much more likely to opt for the 20baht paracetamol option.

Avoided too much testing in 2020 without problems and received ridiculous acclaim for their Covid management policy so continuing the trend shouldnt be a problem.

We'll never see the true numbers because of limited/next to no testing. Thais have been travelling up and down the country over the holidays but amazingly, the only places with infections are the places where there are road blocks and testing. Sort it out.
Yep working along side the migrant workers in the factories are thousands of Thais many of which joined the max exodus back to Issan and the provinces for the New Year holidays.
It would seem that extensive testing in all the regional hubs would follow to contain a chance of further outbreaks, Im sure they are just waiting a week to put this plan into action or maybe not.........

Do they publish anywhere how many people have been tested on each day, and how many tests combined labs in Thailand are able to process nowadays?

No it won't as we have much better controls here.
What controls are they..?..
... see my post above in short factory workers in huge numbers allowed to return home to provinces nationwide for the New Year holidays.

Considering the thousands of Thais who work along side their migrant colleagues in the factories would have returned home to the provinces during the New Year........ we would expect them now to roll out testing across the north and north east at the very least.

When are they going to start doing some proactive screening amongst the local Thai population?
Probably when they can find enough immigrants in the test areas to account for the clusters of positives.
However since thousands of Thais work alongside their immigrant colleagues in the factories and routinely return to the provinces for New Year .......the blame game should be easy.

No no that cant be right ...Thailand has miraculously contained Covid for the last year and should be congratulated on its policies.........just ask many of the thai visa members who also believe the cheques in the post!

So if you are alone or with a partner and sit distanced from others, then have a couple of beers as opposed to fruit juice or water.......how does that spread the virus?

Had surgery in a Thai private hospital 5 months ago a covid test was NOT given, if you pass the temp check that was all they required.
Two months ago at same hospital with fatigue and breathing problems etc not connected to previous surgery, not the slightest mention of a covid test.

– Emergency: COVID-19 affects different people in many different ways. If you or your loved ones are showing any of the main symptoms (fever, dry cough, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, diarrhoea, etc.) do not go to places like a local Thai pharmacy or private hospital if you think you might have COVID-19. Instead you should immediately call the Thai COVID-19 Hotline on 1422 and wait for further instructions.

Clearly not serious....... as i have stated a thousand times before, Thailands Illusion of Covid containment is based on absolutely minimal testing and even now no information of numbers tested daily and where is forthcoming.
I remain dumbfounded that some otherwise intelligent people choose to congratulate them on this covid management based on a no test no have policy.

A decrease in numbers, they must have managed to stem the tide or reckless foolhardy testing.

So if we follow those figures the 745 positives equates to 248,085 tests yesterday..... of course
Where exactly nationwide were those quarter of a million tests conducted?

I had a look at the coverage, it looks as though the medical cover is only upto 100,000 Baht with upto 1 million in financial compensation, having said that it's still value for money so got one for me and her indoors, just gotta hunka down for 14 days now, that shouldn't be too difficult considering the way things are going here ????????
Is it a fairly simple process to buy online through the Roojai website?
New wave of infections could be over by end of Jan: DDC

If they can discourage the recent trend of testing and bring it down to bare minimums again, then as they plan the positives will go down ..... and once again Thailand will declare itself virtually Covid free.
A lot may depend on them quelling the virus anxieties of the peasants...... who are revolting, although some can be quite fragrant.
