They could start taking sewer samples across the country since covid-19 can be detected like that.
That's an easy and cheap way to see how massive the problem is.
They couldnt organize themselves to find used condoms in the garbage of Pattaya....... let alone Covid in the sewers nationwide.

, Thailand had tested 1.2 million since the start....Uk 54 million since the start
Do you have a source for the Thailand figures?
Would really like to know what the daily test numbers are now and where, to put some perspective on the daily positive figures.
Sure this information is still elusive.

Population of 70 million. top destination for tourists with a welcome arms policy for the Chinese before and during the early stages of Covid awareness., who in their right mind would believe some how Thailand was virtually covid free due to an incredible containment policy......
Why didnt world leaders contact Prayut to find out the secret methods behind his great Covid policy.
Perhaps because they were indeed aware of the fallacy.!!

This information had not been made available for the past year because it would reveal the total fallacy of Thailands self proclaimed Covid 19 miraculous containment policy.

Just the odd ten years worth! tend to look beyond the smoke and mirrors, but when in a fantasy world harsh realities do surface.

How many tests are being completed daily nationwide and where, would be useful as well as the positives count.
But this basic information it seems is not available to the masses in case it reveals Thailands Covid management strategies.

Yes their strategy for Covid was amazing...... so much so that the WHO ,Trump and Boris were calling Prayut for the secret strategy.
Wear masks, use temp checks and lock downs, make a song and dance.... but only under extreme circumstances test anyone.
A population of 70 million and a warm welcome to the Chinese for years pre virus and a few months post covid and Thailand almost Covid free............... this projected ludicrous improbable fantasy scenario finally dissolves.

Pure genius ... all the factory workers in the Samut provinces who may have been exposed to the Virus, lets pack them shoulder to shoulder in thousands of buses and cars and ship them back to Issan and the North to spread the New Year tidings......should even up nationwide covid distribuition.

Mass testing of a percentage of the general Thai population of Phuket would present a clearer picture and the positives found could be blamed on contact with migrant workers.......but it might spoil the government illusion of a virtually covid free Thailand and slow the filling of the coffers.

If there was 20k a month testing in every province not just one, we might begin to get a little insight into the real Covid situation here................ instead of the fantasy world of Thailand being virtually Covid free despite having a population of 70 million and welcoming the Chinese for months as their main source of tourism.
However reality and the associated loss of face doesnt fit well with the priorities of the goons running the show.

Just a thought , wife or other drops you with your car to Khon Kaen airport, she they returns to village.
You take your thai smile flight booked direct from their online site to Bkk Suvanabhum 3/4 flights each day cost about 1000 to 1500 baht without silly extras ie includes luggage etc.
Taxi from airport to darkside Pattaya about 1200 baht...... or airport bus option 180 baht.
Can be done with bus direct to Pattaya from KK or Udon if cheaper option is required.
Good luck.

I am told that for the first six months after return I will have no rights generally available to UK nationals, especially as far as the NHS treatment, certain welfare rights or state pension are concerned. Is this correct information. I would be most grateful for any relevant information, or the link to appropriate websites. Thank you.
I thought it was infact the first 3 months you could be denied options other than emergency treatment.
However I believe if you show a clear intention to permanently now reside in the Uk you are entitled to all benefits from day one.
Im sure a more informed member can give concrete advice of the situation.

Thank goodness for Sheryl...always a source of actual knowledge and reliable good advice. I had a suspected inguinal hernia confirmed yesterday at Bangkok hospital in Khon Kaen and was considering the “watchful waiting” approach. I’m a fit 74 y.o, retired, with little need for heavy lifting or the like. There is however a persistent dull ache in the groin once I’m up and about, and have decided to have the op. The surgeon at BH recommended laparoscopic repair as “ today’s standard” , and the hospital’s indicative quote was 165k to 185k, including two nights stay. This seems a little steep having seen some of the costs quoted by others on this thread. My Thai wife suggests that other hospitals could be a lot cheaper. I’m also not clear as to whether the laparoscopic repair uses mesh or involves stitching, my thought process being “why such a large incision for open repair if mesh can be inserted via the much smaller cuts for laparoscopy?” Any thoughts on this or BH’s quote would be welcome.
Having had an inguinal hernia for three years and based in Khon Kaen I finally did mine three months ago.
Two years ago had many quotes.
BH, hospital
With a great surgeon Dr Apichat charming guy with excellent English and a listening caring attitude. quite rare here. He had previously been the surgeon at khon kaen hospital and the first to do laproscopic there.
My prices quoted in writing two years ago.
Open surgery two night stay general anesthetic. 80K.
Laproscopic.... 110k two night stay general anesthetic.
The quote they have given you is very high but not unusual for them. My work insurance at the time was looking at it so maybe my quote was lower for that reason.
Ratchepreuk private hospital.
Open surgery only available with spinal block anesthetic.
50-60k with 2 night stay private room.
Sinagarind university teaching hospital.
Open surgery treated as a private patient no waiting time, private room two night stay.
40k.
Khon kaen hospital government.
Open surgery circa 25k with 4 night private room requested.. Waiting time 2/3 weeks.
Laproscopic again 4 night private room requested stunningly only 30 k.
When i finally got around to it I had to pay all myself and although I would of liked to have gone with BH hospital because of the great attitude of the surgeon who freely advised me on many other medical issues, i was very aware of BH hospitals creative billing policies.
So i opted for Ratchepreuk private hospital surgeon after a couple of consultations,,,,,, had an agreement with the doc re price and had accounts of someone who had the same op and price quote six months prior with good reports........ my final bill 58k as quoted and now 3 months post op.
Hope this helps, its become a bit of an essay, if you need further details happy to help.

The test was in the U.K., I had a hospital procedure so prior to the procedure I had to have a Covid test, it was free as was the procedure with the NHS.
Thanks for the info, I had a hospital inpatient operation here 3 months ago, no mention of covid test........
But this is Thailand largely free of Covid testing!

A novel idea for them might be to stop with the hair brained ideas for attracting tourists and concentrate on tapping the spending power of the foreigners already in the kingdom.
Perhaps stopping the 800k baht and 400k baht in the bank nonsense for retirement and marriage visas etc lifting relaxing all the other restrictions in place ..........with a stay at will as long as you like yearly renewable visa for all and please keep spending we value your custom approach...... instead of the tiresome awkward bar steward we are doing you a favour attitude with needless mountains of paperwork and hoops to jump through.

am 68 years old and had a Covid test last week, horrible, the swab up your nose both nostrils makes you want to sneeze and the one in the throat makes you want to throw up.
Was that a test at a Thailand hospital, very interested in the procedure, cost government or private hospital, waiting time from swabs up the nose to a test result and the advised course of action if unfortunate to be positive.
.Or was this a test in quarantine on return?
Thanks for any info.

No mention from how many were tested daily in relation to these 541 positives, the percentage would be interesting.
