Gyms are still allowed to open (though, if they have pools, the pool must be closed entirely).  The only current gym regulation is that they must close by 9:00PM.

We'll see if that continues... gyms could be ordered to shut at any time, like they were for an extended period twice already since the start of the outbreak.  It's a shame- they've been hit hard- I know of one that's closed and another that's in the process of shutting down, and I'm sure there are others.

Orchid gym running on minimal staff, I doubt it would be open at all if it wasn't part of hotel amenities. I've been a member since 2007 and never seen so few people using the facility. As you say, all the gyms have been hit hard, I think the hotel gyms will recover when people can travel again but some of the private ones may find it more difficult.

I thought all gyms were closed due to the latest red-zone restrictions.

If the Orchid gym is open, great. Did you happen to notice if their sauna was working ?

They have seperate saunas at the Orchid, the attendant usually turns them on in the morning. I called the manager today and the gym is open, as far as he knows it is open tomorrow as well. The pool will remain closed however.

  3. I arrived at the Orchid gym this morning, was told that the pool was closed. My wife had told me last night that it may happen so it wasn't a huge surprise. The gym was open though so I did a few weights and started cardio on the treadmill. A couple that was obviously staying at the hotel came in and began to use the adjacent treadmills Which are less than one metre apart. I thought, it's a bit odd that you can't swim in a large pool all by yourself, but it's ok to be in a crowd of people sweating and breathng heavily. Might be ok if it was an orgy in a time of no covid but it isn't, so I left.

It’s amazing the best run societies on earth all run on the fact that businesses and people have freedom to make their own decisions. And the system runs very efficiently. Yet, during covid, all the sudden, the people can’t decide how to best go about things. Amazing! And all the sudden, government is the most efficient entity on earth.

What on earth has government ever run well or efficiently? Letting people free to protect themselves is the only sane answer.

Giving people access to effective vaccines is the only sane answer. I want a vaccine, I registered for a vaccine and I prepaid for a vaccine. I wear a mask, I don't want to die and I don't want to spread the virus if I get it.

That's why I would prefer the J&J vaccine. One jab and your done! Also if they are getting 20 million Pfizer vaccines will the Thais have to pay for them or just us?

Interesting question. I'm Canadian, have registered and paid for Moderna jabs. Still no information given as to when I'm likely to get vaccinated, so I called the Consulate to see if they had any information. The consul in chiang Mai told me that the Canadian government had donated vaccines to Thailand but wasn't going to discriminate. I wasn't looking to jump the queue I told her, but as long as we're talking about discrimination. Thailand has it's hand out requesting donations from governments around the world, while the PM poudly announces "Thais first".

I registered for Moderna in two different places, (local clinic and local hospital) a few months ago, after being refused registration for vaccination locally.

Since managed to get an AZ shot. Second one due end of September.

However I need to get back to UK sometime this year, and not sure where my AZ shot was produced and if it will create any travel difficulties. Will find out after second shot I hope.

Not sure about mix and match with AZ and Moderna if it does becomes available to me in the future..

I'm booked and paid for Moderna, but I would accept AZ as a first shot, or even a first and second if I could still get a Moderna later.

Deal set to be agreed for private hospitals.

So the private Hospitals took Millions  Billions of Baht off of the people with no deal in place or even agreed to.

Same reaction I had, I registered, I paid, and there is no guarantee that the government will ever allow vaccination of foreigners before every Thai agrees to be vaccinated. I say agree because both of my wifes parents refused to be vaccinated.

With all due respect, less than a third of all Thai citizens have been vaccinated as of yet

I get your point, I'm married to a Thai woman. She has been double vaccinated with Sinovac. With all due respect, how many Thai people have been asked to pre pay for vaccination?  I registered at Lanna hospital in Chiang Mai, registration was confirmed and I was asked to pay 2,300 baht up front and informed that an additional charge of 500 baht would be applied to each jab as a service charge to the hospital. Fair enough, wonder when it will happen?

    I am also registered online.

Got the notification, went to pay but it won’t open the card detail section and allow me to pay. Been trying for 3 days, wife got the same notification and pain instantly using the same app.

I wish you luck, I hope the hospital comes through as advertised, but we all know there are no guarantees. My wife is Thai and the request for payment came to her phone, all I can do is hope.

Oh sure we believe you have tried it at all hours of the night.

Likely if you fail to follow the traffic light but otherwise easy with the light.

Are you a troll or just way off today?

I'll say this, I was at the Orchd hotel this morning, just got out of the pool. Two motorbikes racing past, seemed like no mufflers, at at least 100 kmh headed for the light at the corner of the moat. That's a bit quick for a street in town.

Nothing for me since getting my 13-digit registration number, but I'm under 60.  The pic below is from a Pattaya hospital for the Moderna vaccine- a few months ago it was speculated it would be 3K- now it's 4K + a 'doctor's fee':

I would happily pay for a Pfizer or Moderna if I could get it. The government can't supply vaccines, but that won't stop them from adding compulsory covid insurance for foreigners. I see that in Canada the government is recomending either Pfizer or Moderna for a second jab for people that had Astrazenica for their initial vaccination.

An upbeat health and deputy prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul declared yesterday that there was plenty of vaccine against Covid-19 for everyone.

I guess someone forgot to tell the staff at Lanna hospital in Chiang Mai. I went there on the advice of the government after the More Prom website crashed and burned on day one. What vaccine do you want? the lady at the foreign service desk asked me. I thought, this is more like it. What do you have I foolishly inquired, nothing the woman said, a lot of people want Pfizer or Moderna. While this is fascinating to know, I'm no closer to vaccination.

Does your sister stay in the far north or in a prison camp? That would explain high cost.  I took 10 seconds and make search.   Watermelon 11 lb  $4.97  https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/watermelon-large-seedless/6000196088051

Considering watermelon is not in season, the price is rather good.  At least she can get something. Try getting fresh  berries in Chiang Mai out of season.

I see that large mixed garden peppers Red Yellow, orange  are 6 for  $4.99 at president Choice chain.  That's about 130 baht.  I have to pay 30 baht for decent red pepper if they are available.  That's 180 baht for 6 and they are 1/2 the size of those on sale in advert.  Walmart is hardly place for  quality fresh produce but price and quality looks  better than typical grocery store in thailand.

Did your sister tell you, she  has received or will receive  high quality vaccine, no charge and that no government minister is saying foreign people do not qualify for vaccine?   It is wonderful you can get on airplane and land in Koh Samui in an hour. Don't forget to mention the  bloated airfare or the bloated cost of taxi from airport.  Every country has plus and minuses, but the cost to maintain a good quality of life is just as expensive in Thailand as it is out of Thailand.

Thailand is wonderful until one gets a critical care illness, or loses mobility or vision. Then it is a very difficult place to be.

I'm so sorry that you are so unhappy, perhaps you wouldn't be happy anywhere. As for me, "bloated prices" are in the eye of the beholder. Just as an aside, rest assured that you would be the last person to whom I would disclose the location of my sisters residence.

Update on the Official LINE app.  The link to this given for my wife to register after I gave her details during my visit to Makro registration yesterday so I assume it's the latest available.

This notice helpfully appears after wading through about 6 pages and pressing the "Submit" button.

Putting it on page one is too much to ask for.

Thanks for your post and updates Greenside. I went to Makro this morning to register. I took my passport and my yellow book. My Thai wife spoke with one of the assistants who told her that the yellow book allowed you to register online but wasn't needed at this venue, a passport was enough. I registered, got no appointment but was told I would be contacted by phone or email. I appreciate being informed and hope it leads to vaccination. I downloaded the form and filled it in last night so was able to walk up to the wicket after verification. Thanks again.

  15. Thank you Nancy, I'm a bit unsure as to what the best course of action may be. We live in a village, my wife is registered for the Astrazenecca vaccine already. A couple of people came to get her to sign a form today, they told her I could be vacciated as well if I showed my passport and I do have a yellow book as well. The problem is, I don't really want the Astrazenecca, although it must be better than nothing. I'm not sure I should hold out to October for Pfizer or Moderna.
