1. Also no mule on this planet gets paid 30 000 baht for 6 000 000 baht worth of drugs.Payment for carrying this much would be 5 times of what he claimed, not that it makes any difference to the fact

Well, fact and past arrests would tell you that you are wrong. $1000 US is the reported going rate for young smugglers, often unemployed, from Iran for the past 2 years.

And yes, neither you nor I would do it. But often these guys are not highly educated and have no clue as to how serious the crime is or how many that is actually caught.

What a funny post. Where's the reported rate for young smugglers? Guess it's more a logical thing to understand the difference between wrong and right...no matter what type of education somebody had.

  2. Police booked him on possessing ice with intent to sell and bringing the drug into Thailand without a permit.

So, if you have a permit, it is OK to bring in Ice?

Police booked him on possessing ice with intent to sell and bringing the drug into Thailand without a permit.

Can't you buy such a 'permit' at Kao San Road? " The person is allowed to bring Naam Kaeng into other countries without getting checked."?

Or does the labour department issue such a permit? I'm confused.......

  3. Bangkok Metro Police: 1,156 football gamblers nabbed so far

Still waiting for my money back.Is there a phone number I could call???

  4. I'm happy the Belgian stole from his own.

It seems to be usual for these faranges to steal from their own countrymen......not so strange if you think about it.

I need to avoid Brits esp Welshmen.

Great to see that one racist’s calling others a racist.

Time to understand that there’s only ONE world, can’t understand people like you making others bad…….

There’s good and bad people in all nationalities. FULL STOP

  5. Most probably means using a spoon placed in the main dish instead of everyone dipping their own spoon into the food.

It’s not about a spoon at all, the way they clean their dishes with cold water is a big problem. Even in good European hospitals are bacterially infected Emergency rooms they can’t get rid of.

Dengue fever was always here, sometimes at the East coast, the South the North, or in the Isan.

One type of Mosquitoes is watching you…….

Time to be careful, I’ve met a few guys who’ve got that here, stay healthy………………………

  6. If one notices what the Thai people buy, everything comes in a plastic bag, and every plastic bag goes into another one. I frequently mention to the clerks at stores after I decline a plastic bag and why, that sai tung mai ka/khrub should be said at every transaction. Laws are not enforced, and suggestions or just background noise, and this pertains to educated and non educated alike. There has to be a penalty and it has to be enforced, but then again geng jai comes into play and it won't be. It has to be a part of doing business, paeng gwaa. If it doesn't cost more, there is no deterrent. Sad but true, to do it because it's the right thing to do is not even part of the realm.

Hope the clerks don't think you disappeared from a Si Maha Po....

  7. I take my own cloth bags to Tesco, Carrefour, etc. They look at me like I'm crazy! And it's hard to tell the clerks at 7/11, etc., that you don't want a plastic bag. It's only a can of coke! I don't need a bag for it.

My wife says it's a Thai thing...they feel if they don't get a bag, they are getting ripped off...go figure...

Always the same scenario at the 7/11.I always tell them that their country is already full of plastic and plastic people)-=./ Mee au Saitung, Mueng Thai mee plastic maak leo......

  8. I went to the full moon party last month , it was 600 baht there and back on the speed boat, we wore life jacket, which were checked to see if they were buckeled up on the way there ...but not the way back.

Was very professional, noone had to stand on the boad a seat for all , and others had to wait for the next boat...i was surprised at how good that was.

Also they kept teling us to sit down on the way home when we wanted to do titanic style stand ups. so they arent ALL as bad as you think.

What a wonderful post. You had good luck, that's all.

My deepest condolences to those who've lost their loved ones and a speedy recovery for the injured ones.Guess you think people are able to fly back after the party, You shouldn't take too much drugs to see the truth what really happened.

  9. You must have a work permit to work. No if and or buts. However, in many situations (like resort work) the company pays the employee a salary while they wait for the completion of the work permit.

I would listen to immigration as they are the ones that can fine or deport you if you are caught working without a permit.

I guess the only problem is that your name has to be on the Teachers’ Council of Thailand’s list. All foreigners working at your institution have to be on that list.

It could be done in less than a week, please talk to the administration of your English department and chock dee.

Hope you’ll get it sorted out ASAP.

  10. Tourism to recover in 6 months ............ Hmmmmmmmm

The western world is broke, unemployment high, wages down.

Air fares to Thailand are two to three time what they were (2009 I paid 245UKP for a return LHR to BKK, 2010 cheapest was 650UKP)

    The Baht is 20 percent more expensive (2009 I got 54Bht to 1 UKP, 2010 47bht to 1 UKP)

Western news portrayed Thailand as a war zone

None of Thailand's problems have been resolved

I don't think tourism will ever recover in Thailand, in fact I think it will get worse as new bookings are unlikely to be made.

UK travel agents don't advertise holidays to Thailand any more, and the Baht is not listed in UK currency exchange shops.

If I didn't have a Thai wife, I would have left last month.

Thailand will never be the so called “Land Of Smiles” again. I’m in Europe after eight years Thailand waiting for an operation. I’ll be back because of my family, the weather and some good friends.

The truth is that the European economy really sucks and would I be a tourist, I’d travel to other countries like Laos, Vietnam or South America.

Thailand is pretty good not to tell the truth about the political situation, what about the killings in the South? What we see in the news is what they want us to think.

Of course places like Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui will have tourists again, but it will never be as it was before. Some people are addicted to see these bars, to hear sentences like: “Hello handsome man, sit down, where ya come from?” Even when you’re 78 and in a wheel chair.

To be perfectly honest, you can come to TH, spent all your money, but we’ll never have more rights. After all we still have to show a huge amount of money-on a Thai bank- to renew our visas.

All this visa crap, laws are changing more often than some people are able to change their underwear, together with the inflation makes Thailand to a country where people should think twice to settle down.

Why can’t you own land after being there for more than ten years? After teaching their kids for many years, we’ve got no rights to have the same social security status like retirement money, a credit with almost no interest to build a house, or to buy a car.

Not mentioning those guys who lost all by marrying such a beautiful Thai woman………….

Where I’m living, in the lower North East, you can’t go out in the middle of the night, there’s not even one cop to protect you. No cop would take the phone in an emergency situation. We foreigners are so different. I could go on and on and on and on……….:)

  11. I feel for the family and friends of Gary Poretsky

2 years for shooting someone in the head and then in the body twice

It seems anything can happen in LOS (use your own imagination as to what that stands for)

What a shame. They let this fuc_ker go? What should the family and friends of the victims think?

  12. Congratulations are in order,

6 responses so far and not one screaming for The Death Penalty. ( 30 year old filipina woman have anything to do with it ? )

If it was a Male from Pakistan he would have been cyber tried, convicted, executed and already buried by a ThaiVisa lynch mob.

"The death penalty" Please read the book "The last Executioner" available at Asia Books and other bookstores. 40 Years ago heroin manufacturers received the death penalty in Thailand. Can anyone give me one example of the death penalty for narcotics in Thailand in the past 20 years????

There was approx. 2,500 summary executions under Thaksin

The truth is that approx. more than 3,000 people got killed in a period of three months. The 'heads' just disappeared for this time and came back to make more money.

And the skeletons in containers near Satthapip made a lot of sense. Ironic was that every dead 'dealer' had a weapon in his hand after getting killed by T.'s forces.

  13. Stealing money off Thais !, look out ,.you are in for a rough ride boys,.

What a strange story. Who’d leave 12 million baht unattended? All banks do have a security service, at least with a loaded gun.

Another weird thing: How could the cops track their mobile phones?

And who told them about such an amount of money in a Pick Up?? Can’t you smell that smell??

  14. Most Thai teachers fail in their own subjects

BANGKOK (AFP) -- High school test results in Thailand have revealed a failure rate of more than 80 percent in mathematics, biology and computer studies -- among the teachers.

The failure rates for teachers who took exams in their own subjects were about 88 percent for computer studies, 84 percent for mathematics, 86 percent in biology and 71 percent in physics, the education ministry said.

And almost 95 percent of about 37,500 secondary school directors did not score a pass mark in English and technology, according to the ministry.

The poor results have ignited controversy in Thailand about educational standards.

"Even teachers fail, so how can we raise the quality of students?" Education Minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat was quoted as saying by the Bangkok Post newspaper.

More than 84,000 teachers and school directors took the exams, the first of their kind.

:)So five out of 100 directors had the chance to buy the test before?

What about the test results for the Thai English teachers? Guess it was too terrible to mention.

A good question is indeed who’s teaching the teachers? The blinds can’t lead the blinds...

  15. QUOTE (Soutpeel @ 2010-06-06 07:59:51) The writer should check his sources....I thought it had been proved on TV that US soldiers from Vietnam had very little to do with the establishment of Pattaya as a Disneyland for adults.

Other than that cant really argue with anything else which is being written

After all said, the Land is still Smiling...

No problem, ... just remember: 'THE SMILE CAN MEAN ANYTHING', except what we think.

At least more people are smiling here, even if it's a "I kill you in a minute smile'. But the truth is that even Thais are unable to differentiate them.

  16. Please help with getting the laws for Condo rentals in Bkk that rent by the day. I was told that they should have special license for hotels to be allowed to do this? Can someone that knows the law give me details of what I can do to stop this? The short time renters treat the pool and gym and jacuzzi area like a pig stye, and the security and Manager allow this? The Committee seems to be people that do not live there but rent and they don't seem to care. what can I do to stop this?

    Thanks in advance.

"The short time renters treat the pool and gym and jacuzzi area like a pig stye...".

Sounds like: Mommy Mommy, got shit in my pants. Answer: Change your PAMPERS.

  17. Thanks to both of you for your advice. I have been to Tescos, and decided on a 12v compressor. As you said, the gauge is hopeless, but with the use of an external gauge, I now have perfectly pumped tyres. Cheers.

I hope you got the right size of tires, never forget that you need to fill in more during sunlight.
