  1. You mean a GPRS USB modem.....but you don't really want one of those. Too slow. You want UTMS/HSPDA. I also would avoid Tukcom unless you already know what you need. They are called Aircards in Thailand.

Not sure of the current prices of USB modem in Pattaya, but I wouldn't pay more than 800 baht for such a thing.

Examples here and here and here

In fact, I would look at a MiFi going forward. USB modems are a bit limiting. But expect to pay around 1500 baht for one of those. Example here

Thanks for your response,,but I mean a GPS USB Dongle so I can use my laptop as a marine chart-plotter ..thanks again for taking the time to respond

  2. Hello All!.

I want to purchase a GPS USB Dongle for my Laptop and I would like to know if anybody has seen them for sale at Tukcom. If so which floor and at which shop/stall?...or if anyone has seen them for sale anywhere in Pattaya that would be useful to know too .

    Thank you in advance

    Cheers wai2.gif

  4. Hi all,

Sorry for the slow reply but have had a heap on my plate lately.

Next Thursday, 8th August is a race / cruise over to Hua Hin. The plans are a bit vague but the guys organizing it plan to leave Ocean Marina Yacht Club early. Trip will probably take 8 to 10 hours depending on sea state and wind. Lately wind has been good.

Boats will stay Hua Hin till Sunday or Monday so if you can't crew for the 4 or 5 days you will has to make your own way back. Bus or the mrs.

The other question was notice board. Yes we do have a notice board and you are welcome to put something up on it.

Again, sorry for the tardy reply but have had a couple of "those" weeks.

    Cheers thumbsup.gifwai.gif

  5. Mcyachty is the harbor master at Ocean Marina. Super guy. Send him a PM and he'll respond promptly. If not, let me know and I'll pass along his email address. Here's another post he did recently:

You might also want to check with Royal Varuna. I don't know what type of program they have, but they are here in Pattaya also:

Don't know about these guys, but they've said they help with crew placement:

  6. here is an old post from a while ago hope this helps.

    johnbarpic,

mcyachty has just posted a new topic entitled "Anyone Want To Go Sailing" in forum "Pattaya Forum".

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi all,

We have our regular monthly weekend sailing this weekend (10th & 11th July) at Ocean Marina. If anyone wants to go sailing, come down here by 9.30am, and I can help you find a crew spot. There are always plenty of boats looking for eager and willing crew.

I am the race officer on Saturday, so if any of the trusty helpers from Top of the Gulf Regatta feel like a day out on the water, then you are more than welcome to come along. It is not as big as TOG but still plenty of fun.

Ocean Marina is only 10 to 15 minutes from Pattaya, on the right hand side of Sukhumvit Road, as you head towards Sattahip. Located at the 157km marking just a few door up from the Ambassador. Plenty of parking or easiy to hop off the white Songtiew and walk in.

I also need to pull the finger out and organise another drinks night, as I missed the one on the 5th June, and saw that there was far too much fun had. Stay tuned and I will get there!

  9. I retired at 44 yrs old and I then bought a new RV and drove round Europe for 18 months looking for my place in the sun ,I soon realized Southern Europe was just like England and it had many rules and regulations (thank you Brussels EU).So I sold my Campervan and started delivering yachts all around the world as Skipper & st Mate and in 2008 I delivered a sailed boat from Turkey to Thailand and never left .The rest is history and I am now in my 5 + years in this beautiful country

So to answer your question Yes I do wish I'd come here when I first retired at 44 Thailand has made me truly contented and happy it's not perfect for everyone but it's perfect for me thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

  10. Make your own it's so simple and cheaper ...and tastes delicious

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbPF_rLpd9o

yeah, 2 minutes... not counting washing all the instruments, buying a hand blender and throwing away most of it afterwards! what a waste. then the dijon mustard turning old in the fridge before I want to make another mayo...

BTW, way too much oil in that online recipe, the normal ratio egg yolk to oil is 10-20cl of oil per egg yolk, and as the eggs are really small in thailand, that's probably 7-15 cl per egg yolk.

That's an interesting point you raise there. I've always used this simple recipe for the base - one yolk, one spoon lemon juice and then add up with (Canola) Oil until it gets the right consistency. That usually is around 35 cl, so much more oil than you suggest. If I stopped at 7-15 cl I'm sure it would be too runny. How do you fix that?

I as a rule slowly drizzle the oil into the egg & Dijon until I get to the required consistency and occasionally I'll add some fresh pureed garlic a few splashes of Tabasco sauce ..It's got my taste buds working overtime now I think I'll knock up a batch of home make burger and spark up the BBQ partytime2.gif
