  1. I am going to Phnom Penh from 10 April to 19 April to avoid songkran here in Chiang Mai. I am fed up of staying at home over the songkran period trying to avoid the dirty water. Heard that there is not a lot of water throwing in Phnom Penh as this us mainly confined to villages

  2. I am going to Phnom Penh flying with Air Asia from Chiang Mai via Swampy in April. To avoid the long queues at Swampy could l go through Chiang Mai Immigration as a transit passenger on the outward flight and do the same on the return flight. Will Air Asia allow a straight through boarding pass even though it is 2 different flights with them. Thanks

  3. I recently did this in Pattaya, no Embassy letter required and the old passport had not expired however every page was used. No fee asked for and all done very quickly.

I took my new British passport to Chiang Mai Immigration a couple of weeks ago and they transferred the stamps from the old passport without any problems. The old passport did not expire until 2017 but only 4 spare pages. Again no fee and done quickly via the online booking system

  4. I'm still in possession of my UK passport, so the BIB can't extract the usual 'top secret you give me 200 baht'

I am however disappointed with the lack of contact from the embassy and the fact that the only way i can enquirer about my 9000baht passport application is through calling a 100baht a minute call center!!

I guess i'm going to have to sit tight for the next two weeks, i guess if i still fail to get my passport in time then i can ask for an emergency passport from the UK Embassy in Bangkok?

I paid for DHL return delivery too, i again ASSUME (assumption seems to be the key factor when applying for a UK passport via Hong Kong) that once my passport is winging it's way back to me i'll be emailed my DHL tracking num

You will get your passport back with in the time frame of 4 weeks

I renewed mine 1 month ago. Did not recieve any confirmation of receipt....did not get any DHL tracking advice. I checked my credit card statement and found it was debited 3 days after I had posted it. The new passport was recieved back in 22 days from posting the application

Same as me my new passport was returned in 3 weeks so the OP should get his back in the next few days. DHL called me to say they will deliver the new passport

  5. I purchased a iphone 4 about 6 months ago in Chiang Mai but l am not able to update from the apps store as it requires the Apple suppliers password which l do not have and the supplier will not give me. Everytime l want to update from the app store l have to return the phone to the store and they will do it free but it takes about an hour. I have an itunes account so thats not a problem. At the moment l have 79 updates available many of which l do not need so is there any way l can change the suppliers password to do the updates myself. I have limited technical knowledge and have tried to change the password but cannot seem to change it. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

  6. l sent my passport renewal to Hong Kong via DHL on 11 January 2012 and my new passport arrived today 3 February 2012. Not a bad service from IPS but a shame it was expensive way of doing things and was much better and cheaper when the passports where renewed at the British Embassy in Bangkok

I paid for my new passport using my Bangkok Bank debit card. I received a receipt from Hong Kong a day after my passport arrived at my home via DHL. The receipt was in Hong Kong dollars and was sent from Hong Kong via DHL.I would always use the courier recommended by the Embassy as the cost between Thai Post EMS and DHL is not a lot of difference. DHL has a special envelope for the Consul-General in Hong Kong for passport applications and l would not trust Thai Post EMS system just save a few baht. However l am dissapointed that there is no tracking system after the application is sent to Hong Kong but maybe that will change when all passport procedures are dealt with in the UK. Just my view

  7. I went at 2:45pm last Tuesday to do my 90-day sign in and I didn't leave until 4:30pm. I received queue number 733 but it was only at 680 when I arrived. I've never taken so long for a 90-day sign in.

It was the same yesterday for 90 day reporting. Big queues with about 50 people waiting and it seemed a lot slower to be seen mainly because the were putting barcodes in the passports now. If the barcodes should speed reporting up what happens if you post your 90 day report do you have to send the passport as well?

  8. Last week my passport application was received by the Consul-General on Thursday and the next day my visa debit card was debited the amount of 9100 baht to cover the cost of the new passport and assuming all shipping costs to return the passport back to me in Chiang Mai

A seperate question is how do l know if the passport application has been sent to the UK as l have no notification from Hong Kong. Is there a tracking service or do l have to ring Kong Kong to find out this information

  9. I sent my passport renewal form to Hong Kong via DHL in Chiang Mai last week and the cost was 639 baht. I am informed looking at my bank statement that the Consul-General deducted enough from my credit card to cover the cost of the new passport and the cost of sending it to the UK and returning the passport back to me in Chiang Mai. I think the amount deducted was 9100 baht when the cost of the new 48 page passport is around 7500 baht so l am assuming that this included all shipping costs

  10. 904 Aggressor Squadron, RTAF, is based at Chiang Mai AFB. It has F-5's. They were flying low over the city last time I was there. These guys do have to practice sometimes...

If memory serves they are the HRH Crown Prince's old outfit.

The RTAF F16 squadron where in town for childrens day and thats where all the noise came from. They are not based in CNX although the F-5s are

  11. Good News ! We need something now that Gypsy has moved back into Chiang Mai, and Heidelberg has closed, but I've been unable to spot Mamma-Mia yet. Is it before or after the PTT-station, before or after the new traffic-lights 1 km South of Mae-Jo proper ?

Its before you get to the Ptt station coming out of Chiang Mai. You will see a new row of shops just where the AFM building is situated and the entrance to Sunshine Village. I live within a 2 minute walk to the restaurant and will give it a try soon

  12. I've had medical check-ups at a couple of places in C.M. By far the best and absolutely the most thorough is by Dr. Morgan at her clinic on the Hang Dong Road. Number for appointment and directions here ------> http://www.healthcar...c.com/index.php

As for price it depends on your age and what tests she recommends for you. If you are young then it won't cost much at all. If you are 50 or over then you probably need some x-rays, EKG, special blood tests for prostate and colon cancer screening, etc. But her prices are competitive with those of McCormick, Sripat, etc. I would say on average 5-7K THB (over 50 y/o).

Dr. Morgan is a very kind lady and an excellent physician. She is as thorough as you will find in any country of the world and much more pleasant than most. She also speaks better English than many native English speakers! I had one medical check-up at Sripat a few years ago where the Doctor never once got up from his chair and never laid a hand on me!

I agree she is probably the best around CNX

  13. Chiang Mai is ripe for being developed into a hub airport, however I think the through route should be from Man-Cm -China ( Beijing or Shangai ), the Chinese are the biggest growth market.

I have also seen doubts that the A380 could land at CM, but I am no expert on that subject.

The A380 has alrready landed at CNX a couple of years ago on a test flight from BKK
