Root canal prices in Thailand (and comparisons)
renaissanc replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Health and Medicine
I live near a small town in West Thailand. I have had several root canals and crowns at a dentist there over the years, and elsewhere too. It used to cost about 5,000 Baht until 4 years ago. Now it costs about 8,000 Baht. I could get it done more cheaply at the hospital clinic down the road. The price of 40,000 Baht sounds like a private hospital price. Thais in Chiang Mai generally would have the work done for much less than 40,000 Baht. Having a root canal and crown done is simple work for a dentist. You don't need to go to a fancy clinic for this. You don't feel a thing when having a root canal nowadays. I hope the clinic plays nice music and has a coffee machine for that price. -
How scared should we be of Trump's authoritarian tendencies?
renaissanc replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
The solution to people who claim to be afraid of Trump is very simple: Stop watching and reading the fear-mongering, lying Fake News (CNN, MSDNC, ABC, CBS, NYT, etc.). If you believe them, then please contact me so that I can sell you 15 bridges over the Chao Phraya River at a special price. I have the ownership documents for all of them, guaranteed by a trusted lawyer who lives in a bar in Soi Nana. -
Starmer and Co. seem to be stupid. "Derrrr ... the CCP just wants to help improve the water system ... derrrrr ... ma bwain herts!"
-
It's a good idea. But ... you can be sure that 101 Rights Groups would demonstrate while screaming to Heaven on high to oppose it. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Burn down the Marathon! Invade the race course!" Etc. Usual stuff.

I don't trust any bank. They'll smile to get your money, but if they have a problem, they'll use your money to solve their problem. In Thailand, the bank guarantee is only one million Baht, regardless of how many millions you have in the bank. Why does anyone keep money in a bank anyway? The interest is pathetic, and you can get a far higher return with gold. Since 1st January, its value has increased by about 27% so far.

Crime Brit Caught with Cocaine Stash While Overstaying Visa on Samui
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
It's probably a "farang" price. He looks much older than 28 to me. 50-ish maybe. Or maybe he likes to eat lots of fast food and processed "food". -

Crime Brit Caught with Cocaine Stash While Overstaying Visa on Samui

As a rule, if you're going to break the law in Thailand, make sure you can tolerate a Thai prison for 5+++ years first. -

I think it's much more than 25. 25 would be luxurious for a Thai prison. -
Politics Uyghur Deportation Drama Halts Thai-US Trade Talks
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand is stuck in the past when ASEAN countries sucked up to the CCP. Xi's recent trip around ASEAN showed that the CCP has no hold over ASEAN countries anymore. Thailand will have to change its policy towards the CCP, and this includes not sending Uyghurs back to China to their presumed deaths. -

The problem, as I see it, is that many expats only watch the propaganda channels, CNN and "MSDNC". -
We have 26 cats. It is unwise for snakes or a mouse to enter Catdom with so many cats roaming around during the day. Sometimes, a cat brings back a small cobra from the neighbour's land, usually dead by now, and then presents it to my wife and/or me. "Look! Aren't I clever!" The cats do this when they find an outdoor lizard or other creature. Cockroaches are taken care of at night by Cyril the Toad who lives in a pipe in the kitchen. The pipe is used to let washing machine water flow into the back garden. The cats let Cyril wander around the kitchen and don't bother him. Snakes are rare in Catdom. Maybe once a year, a large and long cobra finds its way into the garden, totally ignoring the presence of the 26 cats. I'll kill it with a digging tool to protect the cats and thereby restore peace in Catdom. The monitor lizard next door gets it as a snack afterwards.

British Man's Urgent Plea to Save Dying Father in Thailand
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
If he is in a private hospital, move him to a government hospital with very low treatment costs. Then there will be no need for a GoFundMe. If he can't be helped at a government hospital, then a British hospital probably can't help him either. Look after him here in Thailand until he can fly home. Just provide him with extra nutrition every day while in a government hospital because he looks very thin. Pray for him. Here is the Baha'i long healing prayer. Just say it from the heart with deep sincerity, and it will be answered. -
California Mayor Sparks Outrage wants to ‘purge’ homeless population
renaissanc replied to Social Media's topic in World News
There can be no solution to the homelessness situation as long as: 1. The Radical Left controls California, and the population keeps voting them (back ) into power. 2. There is no unity between the Dem-Marxists and the Republicans. 3. Newsom doesn't care about the homeless. -
Report Drunk Foreigner Found Sleeping in Phuket Graveyard After Beach Party
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I like to go to a cemetery to pray for the dead. They are usually delightfully peaceful places and it is very easy to fall asleep if you close your eyes. If I'm lucky, one or more souls will respond to the prayer by sending a warm tingling feeling through me. ... As for why some Thais might take offense at the man sleeping in the cemetery, it may be because he was drunk and his presence there was disrespectful. That would be the same in many countries, I think. -

Economy Rising Egg Prices in Thailand Strain Consumers and Businesses

In my rural area, 30 medium-sized eggs cost 100 Baht still. The chicken farms give each chicken a personal fan to cool themselves down. -
Report Swiss Man Faces Arrest in Phuket Over Alleged Assault on Thai Doctor
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
The Swiss man has handled the whole matter badly from the start. If people sitting on the steps was a problem, then he could have put up a barrier and a notice. If he slipped and kicked the woman accidentally, he should have apologised. When the matter got out of hand, he could have gone on Hone Krasae on Channel 33 and had the case arbitrated and settled amicably live on television. He could have avoided an escalation to prosecution easily. Now he's being stupid by not attending a court hearing. If he gets kicked out of the country, he only has himself to blame. -
The anti-Trump people here are having a Field Day! I would love to do business deals with them because they have no clue about "The Art of the Deal". They would be a pushover. What Trump is saying is a deal-making strategy to get concessions from Putin. Maybe the strategy will work, maybe not, let's see. Maybe it will lead to a new strategy. ... To Trump's mockers here, I have 2 bridges over the Chao Phraya River for sale. Buy one get one free. Just reply with: "I have no idea about the art of the deal." and I'll get back to you. 🙃

Why so many conspiracy theorists and what to do about them
renaissanc replied to kwilco's topic in Off the beaten track
One thing that the Dem-Marxist Party & Their Mignons in the legacy media and social media have taught us is that those who say something is a conspiracy theory are lying about a truth that they don't want the world to know is true because it upsets their narrative and/or (financial) interests. The "Laptop from Hell" is a classic example of this. The "Wet Market" cause of COVID was another example to protect Fauci and Dem-Marxist people. There are other examples of "That's a Conspiracy Theory!"
