Is 1 million baht enough to retire in Thailand?
renaissanc replied to Celsius's topic in General Topics
No, it's not enough. Obviously, you couldn't live in Bangkok or Pattaya for 14 years with only one million Baht. You could only live on that amount if you had a place to live in a rural area and didn't have to pay rent. My wife and I live comfortably for about 5,000 Baht per month in a rural area in our own house with our own garden for growing some vegetables and fruits. That amount will rise to 1 million Baht because of inflation. -
Dual Pricing in Thai Tourism: Economic Necessity or Hidden Bias?
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I see that several foreigners are supporting the system. Are they aware that condominiums have a foreigner's price? The Sales Agent won't tell you about it, of course. Thais pay less for condominiums in these new blocks. If you live in a condominium perhaps you got screwed without knowing. Do you still support dual pricing now? -
Dual Pricing in Thai Tourism: Economic Necessity or Hidden Bias?
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't mind paying 10% more, if there really has to be a dual-pricing system, but there doesn't have to be one. It's a system based on disrespect. If I became Prime Minister I would fire in disgrace on Day 1 the Minister of National Parks (or whatever it is called) for disrespecting millions of tourists and resident foreigners. -
Finnish Man Arrested for 10-Year Overstay in Thailand
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
I'm wondering how he lived here and stayed under the radar for so long. I need to show my passport often even though I've never had to show it to a policeman over my 40 years here. ... If he doesn't have the money for his deportation, he's going to stay in the airport's detention jail for the rest of his life. I've read that the jail there is the Mother of Horrible Places to be stuck in. -
Dipped below 800k for money in bank method

Referring to another of your posts: I hope that your hip problem improves. I stopped jogging a year ago so as to avoid (hopefully) ever having a hip problem. -
Dipped below 800k for money in bank method
renaissanc replied to DrJack54's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agents have a role to play in visa renewals. I'm 68. If I live to, say, 90-100, making the two-hour return journey to Immigration twice might be difficult for me then. I'm dreaming that one day, someone in Immigration will think: "I know! Let's increase the visa period for married and retired foreigners to (5) years instead of each year. All they have to send to us is a bank statement." I like to dream of impossible things. -
Until recently, I worked at 4-star and 5-star hotels for 30 years, including in Thailand. You could get better than what you have shown for less than that price. I'm excluding the crazily expensive hotels, such as the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, of course. (By the way, the Christmas Eve buffet there costs 11,000 Baht!)

It doesn't matter if Dementia Joe pardons Hunter and even himself. The public knows that the Biden family is horrendously corrupt and that they sold out the country for personal gain. That's their legacy even with a pile of pardons.

Firstly, @OneMoreFarang has some outstanding advice to offer you. Mine stems from my age and life experience, and it's for you. Don't even think or care about what others think about you or your girlfriend now or in the future. Don't give them power over your lives. Lastly, if she can't accept what @OneMoreFarang has suggested, then give her what she wants, but tell her that bigger breasts will most definitely not make her feel how she wants to feel for long. A sagging stomach, a spot on her face, her nose, her cheeks, etc. will follow as causes of concern for her as she gets older and her body changes. Just wait until she gives birth. Everything changes then. Self-confidence is created in a very different way, and there are many videos about this.

I have a plate with 7 false teeth. I love it! It cost me about 4,000 Baht, maybe 3,500 Baht, 2 years ago. Normally, implants in the province where I live cost about 45,000 Baht. Maybe it's gone up a bit. I don't know. As for 180,000 Baht, wow! ... Actually, I'm surprised that Bumrungrad didn't charge you over 500,000 Baht. Their prices can be crazy for foreigners, I hear.

Big falang lottery winners in Thailand?
renaissanc replied to Sandboxer's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'd scan the lottery ticket and then my wife and I would go to a police station to do a "bunteuk prajumwan" about the win. Then we'd go to the Lottery Department wherever that is and my Thai wife would collect the money without any photographs. I don't want to risk someone saying that foreigners can't win the lottery. I would pay tax as required. We would not tell anyone that we had won the lottery. We would spend the money slowly so as not to attract attention, and if anyone asked where we got the money for this and that, we'd say that it came from my savings abroad. You never tell people you've won the lottery. By the way, in my case, there is no need to divide up the winnings 50:50 with my Thai wife. She isn't a former bargirl. -
I've lived in Thailand for 40 years. I think that thesetat2013's post is full of common sense and good advice. I would add that your heart seems to have taken over too much and you are marrying a Thai woman far too early in your life. I wonder how much you understand the regional culture of the woman. As for the dowry, I agree with the many posters who say "No!". spidermike007's suggestion is very wise, I think. If you don't understand why, then I suggest you delay the marriage until you are financially stable and you understand Thai culture better. Having lived here for so long and being 68, if my Thai-British son came to me with your situation, I'd say to him: "Are you crazy? You should know better!" Despite this, don't be afraid to keep asking posters here for their advice.

Consumer injured by glass in spaghetti at Thai pizza chain
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Assuming that the customer didn't throw his weight around with the staff previously, accidents can happen. Not every misfortune has to end in a court case or a public scandal. In the USA I expect that the customer would sue the shop for US$XX million. Also, it's risky to report the event on social media in Thailand. If that shop is the only pizza shop in that location the customer might even be sued for defamation. -
