British man dies in failed parachute jump from Pattaya condo
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I don't wish to sound cruel, but it was a silly idea. Jumping from a plane run by a parachute jump company is wiser, and they video the jump for you too. -
Swiss man’s wife missing in Thailand after inheriting 13 million baht
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There's an unwritten rule for when you win the lottery or inherit a lot of money, esp. in Thailand, namely: "Move away from where you live asap."; otherwise, 100+ relations and people claiming to be a relation will visit you asking for a loan; every Tom, Dick, and Harry (organisation and charity, fake or real, too) will pester you for money, neighbours too, and thieves will gravitate to your home. You'll never have any peace. If you don't lend the money asked for the people asking for money, including friends for decades will hate you forever. I think that she knows the "rule" and has fled. ... And I was hoping that she would lend me 500,000 Baht. I promise I'll pay it back! -
You're right, of course. But he has bought his freedom fairly and squarely. In Thailand, this trumps what is right or wrong, just or unjust.

Irishman’s life hangs by a thread after mosquito bite in Thailand
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Government hospitals are far better than many foreigners seem to think. Private hospitals have "farang" prices, which make them horrendously expensive. ... Many locals in my village have had dengue fever and have been treated in the local government hospital. It's a run-of-the-mill illness for government hospitals. -
Seemingly everyone here is critical of the drunken man. I say, if you want to get drunk, then go ahead and ruin your health. But people should be free to do so without having to worry about being robbed by the notorious Pattaya katoeys. Pattaya katoeys have robbed so many people that there should be a public warning made to tourists to beware of Pattaya's katoeys who may try their hardest to rob you. The LBTQXYZ+++++ people here will no doubt scream, "How dare you! Katoeys have their rights!! You're a racist!" They don't have the right to rob though, and that is what seemingly many of them are doing to tourists and residents.

Thailand's Immigration Launches Automated Passport Control
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I wish Immigration would speed up the annual Marriage Visa renewal. It still takes one officer 50+ minutes to type the same information about my wife and me and not save it, and then stamp, stamp, and stamp all the documents. Then comes the home visit 4 days later when the 2 officers type out the same information and take the same photos. -
90 day, 7 day after due date ok?
renaissanc replied to sanook 1's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I assume you know that you can do your 90-Days reporting online. https://tm47.immigration.go.th/tm47/#/login For some reason, today the screen says "Not secure", but you can still do it there. -
Sretta, you are being naive. The CCP's goal is to set up police stations all around the world so that they can go after Chinese citizens they don't like. Look at what the CCP has been doing secretly in the USA, for example. Then they will probably go after anyone online in Thailand who is critical of the CCP. Their goal isn't to create confidence, Sretta. Wake up!

Thaksin Underwent Surgery, Now Recuperating: Corrections Dept
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Official: "Listen everyone. We've all got to earn our money. Thaksin has agreed to have an operation on some dead skin on his feet. The doctors have agreed to call this an "orthopedic operation" to fool the public into thinking it's serious. Thaksin will need to spend a long time recovering from the operation. This will take him to the end of November. Then we can say that the problem has occurred again so he needs another operation. This will take him to the beginning of next year. I think that he can get a pardon in February, so we might need to think up another fake operation in January. In the meantime, get out there and tell the media about poor Thaksin." -
Some of you are being too hard on the man, I think. I typed out my travel diary from 1982-83 when I was travelling around South America, etc. at the age of 26, so I wasn't like Joe Biden. There was one occasion when I forgot the name of my hotel and where it was. But by walking around the area I eventually worked it out. It can happen!

I don't know if the Prime Minister can pass such a law on his own because Parliament certainly won't, but I'd like to see caning implemented for corruption like in Singapore. But make it public for maximum shaming. Followed by losing your job and an indelible stamp being put on your forehead. Few would dare to be corrupt then. Also, Thailand would probably be about one trillion Baht richer each year because of the 30% Rule.

Intoxicated British Man Beaten by Two Thai Men in Pattaya
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Violence wasn't necessary, but it's a typical Thai male response. I've watched the video of the incident. Their violence was excessive and inexcusable. I hope that they are jailed for a year and made befittingly to clean sewers for this duration. -
The rule about not helping to lift luggage can in many years ago because cabin crew were injuring themselves. My daughter's been an air hostess for quite a few years. If a cabin crew member gets injured, the insurance company won't pay for their expenses. The person will not get paid sick leave either. Worse still, the plane will be short of a member of crew, so the flight won't take off. What about a standby crew? There probably won't be one because the standby crew will have finished their waiting time to see if they will be needed. Yes, they do turn off their mobile phones when the period of waiting has finished. So, all of the passengers might have to wait until the following day before they can travel. Maybe the complaining woman is used to servants, but cabin crew are there to save you and help you in medical emergencies and crash landings. That's their main job. Their training goes far beyond how to serve tea. I hope that she will apologize to the cabin crew members in question.
