I probably should have paid the money.
renaissanc replied to Packer's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You did the right thing. She was trying to take advantage of you in a very disrespectful way. Just one point, though. When she started to order extras, I would have told her that I was only paying for the cake. -
British Expat Finds Bliss in Thai Paradise, Won’t Return Home
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
If she goes to a private hospital on Koh Samui to have it repaired, she will have to pay the "Foreigner Not on a Longterm Visa" charge, which might be anything from 500,000 to 700,000 Baht for the repair. -
This will upset all the expat anti-Trumpers on this and other Forums who believe the propaganda of the legacy media that Trump is an evil Nazi dictator who is stealing the nation's money and ending Democracy while the Democrat-Marxist party is perfect. Newsom will now be cancelled by the Radical Left and all sorts of charges will be laid against him. How dare he step out of line!

Russian Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Early Morning Pattaya Crash
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Being a private hospital I expect that the Russian will have to pay a massive foreigner's charge for treatment. In view of his injuries and the "Foreigner's Charges", his bill may well be between 500,000 - 1,000,000 Baht. I wish him a speedy recovery and a happy bill payment day. -
Trump Tariff Turmoil: Thai Car Market Skids to a Halt
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Trump's tariff is 25%. Accept it. Either accept it or invest in a car plant in the USA. Can you sell more cars in Thailand? I see the prices of cars rise each year. 4-door pick-up trucks cost a fortune now. They are also made with flimsy metal or whatever the material is nowadays. If you crash, you're either dead or severely injured. My Isuzu Spacecab is 25 years old. It's made of heavy steel. Lifting up the bonnet is a strong man's job. I'll drive it until it's 30 years old because I feel safe in it. Then I'll buy an old car, I expect, because in 5 years cars will probably be made of plastic or thin aluminium.- 119 replies

Realistically, nothing will change there until (Heaven forbid!) the children of the state governor, mayors, and their cronies are raped, murdered, etc. Then the penny will drop. In any case Trump is going to get rid of sanctuary states and cities soon, which will infuriate the Democrat-Marxists and their supporters. "Poor rapists! We must be kind to them!"

Canadian Tourist's Warning: Assault and Theft in Pattaya Bars
renaissanc replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Pattaya isn't a safe place to be after dark. If there is no programme to stop the violence, thefts, and robberies carried out on foreigners, Pattaya will be finished as a tourist resort. -
Petition for trump ban on U.K. visit gathers votes

Sadly, I think you're right. I left the UK in 1984 and I wouldn't want to live there again. -
Thailand's Coastline Threatened by Melting Iceberg, Expert Warns
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My wife and I moved from Thung Kru, Samuthprakarn 6 or 7 years ago. The tell-tale signs of future flooding were already clear back then. By a stroke of luck, we managed to sell our house to a neighbour who wanted to extend her living area. Now that same neighbour is trying to sell her house, but word has got out about what is coming. The housing estate already gets flooded from the sea via a canal quite often. -

Like in the case of Pattaya, entertainment areas are risky places to go to after dark. -
German Tourist Severely Beaten in Pattaya by Group of 10 Men
renaissanc replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Pattaya is probably safe enough as long as you don't go out after dark ... which is when the city comes alive, of course. -

Twice I have had to sit next to an "Incredible Hulk". It's an awful experience. On each occasion, I was pinned against the windows. On one occasion I was able to move seats, thankfully, as the man stank to high heaven. The other time I just had to tolerate his obesity. He was unaware of the discomfort he was causing and there was nothing he could do about his size. I can't understand why people let themselves become so fat.

As usual, the posters here have yet to discover empathy and compassion. I ask you to imagine you had experienced this ordeal and then you read the comments posted here. How would you feel? You'd be horrified. Firstly, we know the Police will demand a lot of money to free a tourist while taking money from the Thai(s) involved to "take care of the matter" as well. Secondly, if you get into such an unjust situation with the Police you take their names and tell them that you will see them on the Channel 3 programme โหนกระแส (Hone-Krasae) in the next few days. If they are being corrupt, they'll let you go because they know they could be kicked out of the Civil Service and even jailed. Thirdly, to tourists and all foreigners, if you take drugs and you're caught, expect the most horrendous worst.
