Are there set dates for when any government office will be closed for Songkran?
In particular I am interested in the Transport Office in Lipa Noi? -
Premier Bar in Bangrak, sounds like an interesting night.

The 2 pIaces I use are:
1. BigC - on the right as you walk in
2. Next to 7-Eleven close to Dow Seafood Market
Both are very good and Ive never had any keys not work.

Heinz Baked Beans
THB 59 a can @ Big C in the "Foreign food" aisle near the fruit & veg.
Branston Pickle
Opposite the above.
HTH
I couldnt see the Heinz beans. Only Heinz Soups and Heinz Noodles. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Please let me know if you see them next time you're in there?

Hi all,
My tourist visa 60 days expires today. I need to report to immigration for a 30 day extension. The immigration office here in Samui has been closed for the holidays, but I told it will reopen today.
I have heard/read that they may give a bit of leniency due to the holiday closures, and that if I go tomorrow they may not charge me for overstay.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I didnt know Phil, but its yet another sad story of such a waste of a good life, from the roads of Samui. Take care out there peeps.
RIP Sir.

I would think blue / garbage , green / recycle.
There is logic there, Rooo, but what is garbage and what needs recycling?

Hi, I'm looking out for THE best Ham/cheese burger. Hopefully that comes as a set with fries and under 300 bt.
Any place you recommend?
Today a friend recommended a place for a nice burger to me. So naturally I had to try it out.
The Cable Grill
Its a take-away only place, situated by the Samui Outlet shopping precinct.
Go to the end of the lake road where it meets the beach road, turn left, and its about 50 metres along, on the right hand side.
It is designed to look like an old fashioned San Francisco tram car. Next to it is an old London bus, which is a take-away cocktail bar.
I had the Double Cheeseburger meal, with fries and a Fanta - 199 THB - so comparable to McDonalds prices.
It was a little greasy (they cook on a hot plate, not a grill), but very very tasty indeed. Very much like the taste of a homemade burger (their slogan is "Homemade Burger and Beyond").
Will definitely go back again.

Water has gone down since last night. From 50 cm to about 20. Cars can now pass.
Around Dao seafood market, Chaweng.

Does anyone know what this area is like now? I need to go that way about 530pm today. Passable on a motorbike?

You have the Froch fight on also? Any idea what time that starts.

If the authorities cracked down on the taxi drivers and made them use their meters people wouldnt drive drunk anywhere near as much, and I guarantee you would see an huge fall in RTAs, instantly.

Avis are a worldwide company with a good reputation, so you shouldnt really encounter any problems with them. However Im not sure that you will get a car for 10k a month with them.

Does your son like to play football? If so go to the Samui Arena and enrol him in one of the after school football coaching courses. He will make a lot of friends through that.

I use the place near Maenam, on the same side as Dan Auto, but a bit before, coming from Bophut.
Always had good service there.
I use the same guy. He's near Dan Auto, about 50-100 metres towards Bophut, on the same side of the road. Speaks very good English, and is very helpful.

I'm driving from Samui to Ranong to stamp out next week. One day up and the next day back. I have a comfortable Toyota Hilux and can take up to 3 people who are willing to share expenses. You'll also benefit from my knowledge of the area, as I lived in Ranong for 2 years and know the scenic route and the good places to stay, eat, and bathe in the hot springs.
Send me a PM with your phone number if interested.
I need to go next week, but have already booked with Easy Way now. Posting only a few days before is a bit late notice for most people. Shame, as I would have loved to have done it your way instead of being crammed in a mini van all day.

What time is the England football game on? I assume you'll be staying open late for it?

yeah this is ridiculous. unless they build some serious flood defence walls, this is a complete no-starter.
saying that, IF they did the necessary defence, Im sure it'd be a nice place to life.....so close to the fun of Soi Reggae!
