Hamzah Sheeraz is targeting a fight with Chris Eubank Jr or Liam Smith if he can beat Liam Williams on Saturday. The British middleweight faces the biggest test of his career at London's Copper Box Arena against the Welshman, who is a former world title challenger. Williams, 31, took issue with Sheeraz looking ahead to potential fights, saying on Thursday: "What is he talking about? "He hasn't beat me yet and he's not going to." Sheeraz, 24, is undefeated in 18 pro fights and refused to be drawn into any sort of back-and-forth with Williams at the top table in their pre-fight news conference. The Slough native said he was not looking past Williams but wanted to prove he was ready for the likes of Smith, Eubank Jr and reigning British champion Nathan Heaney by securing victory at the weekend. Williams' four defeats have come against Eubank Jr, Smith (twice) and former WBO champion Demetrius Andrade. Pressure is all on Clarke - Wardley Usyk missed birth of child training for postponed Fury fight WATCH: Sheeraz and British boxers in conversation with Lord Aleem He will be an underdog against Sheeraz, but said he had no intention of being an easy night's work. "Personally I think it's a bad mistake, bringing me in to get beat by this guy," Williams said. FULL STORY

Cristobal del Solar carded one of the lowest scores in the history of professional golf with a 13-under-par 57 in the Astara Championship. The Chilean made two eagles and nine birdies in the event in Colombia on the Korn Ferry Tour, the developmental circuit that sits below the PGA Tour. The 30-year-old shot his 57 on the Pacos course, the shortest on the tour and almost 9,000ft above sea level. Ireland's David Carey carded the only other 57 on a professional tour. That was at the Cervino Open in 2019 on the Alps Tour, the third tier in Europe below the European Tour. Jim Furyk's 58 at the Travelers Championship in 2016 is the lowest round on the PGA Tour. It was matched last year by Bryson DeChambeau in a LIV Golf event while Ryo Ishikawa and Kim Seong-hyeon have made 58s on the Japan Tour. Del Solar's round at the Bogota course - which sits at high altitude, where the ball flies about six per cent further because of the thinner air - is the best in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. The world number 259 could have gone even lower but missed a 15-foot putt for birdie on the par-four 18th that meant he made par on his final three holes. STORY

England captain Jamie George expects to be "very emotional" when he leads out the team for the first time in a Six Nations match at Twickenham. George's reign as skipper began with victory in Rome, but he says walking out at a sold-out home of English rugby to face Wales will be "special". "It's huge. It's a dream come true," George told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Being at Twickenham, singing the anthem and that walkout will be a very emotional moment for me." George, who will win his 87th cap on Saturday, added: "I never thought I would be in this position." England were beaten in a World Cup warm-up game by Fiji in their last match at Twickenham, five months after slumping to their record home defeat against France in the Six Nations. England unchanged for Wales game Inexperienced Wales have 'nothing to lose' - Care Six Nations fixtures & BBC coverage details Rugby Union Daily: Nations Pod - Week two England are unchanged from their opening win over Italy and George, 33, says the players are excited about the visit of rivals Wales. "I think it's special it's against Wales. The first thing you think of is the history of the fixture," said George. "Our recent record at Twickenham has been poor and we have been very outspoken about how we want Twickenham to be great again, so we have the responsibility to do that and what a privilege that is. Football's lawmakers Ifab are to trial sin-binning players and issuing blue cards, it will be announced on Friday. Sin-bins have been used at grassroots level for dissent but their use could be extended to cynical fouls as part of a trial. A player would spend 10 minutes in the technical area after being given a blue card by a referee. It is not yet clear when the trial will start and which competitions it will involve. The Premier League has already ruled out being part of the initial roll-out of any trial, while football's world governing body Fifa said "reports of the so-called 'blue card' at elite levels of football are incorrect and premature". It added: "Any such trials, if implemented, should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels, a position that Fifa intends to reiterate when this agenda item is discussed at the Ifab AGM [annual general meeting] on 1 March." Ifab (International Football Association Board) is scheduled to hold its annual meeting at Loch Lomond in Scotland in March and sin-bin trials at higher levels of the game are listed as a topic for discussion in the agenda. Sin-bin trial plan recommended for professional games Sin-bins were piloted in 2018-19, with the Football Association reporting a 38% total reduction in dissent across 31 leagues. They were introduced across all levels of grassroots football from the 2019-20 season in an attempt to improve levels of respect and fair play. FULL STORY

The future of the Red Bull Formula 1 team is in the spotlight as their boss Christian Horner faces an internal hearing on Friday into a complaint of inappropriate behaviour. The 50-year-old, who has led Red Bull Racing since its founding in 2005, will be quizzed by an independent lawyer on the complaint. Parent company Red Bull Gmbh, based near Salzburg in Austria, said on Monday that it is taking the allegations against Horner "extremely seriously". The team has not confirmed the nature of the complaint made against Horner but BBC Sport understands the claims relate to an allegation of inappropriate and controlling behaviour. Horner has denied the allegations in a comment to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, external as well as inside an F1 Commission meeting of team bosses, governing body the FIA and commercial rights holders F1 earlier this week. Horner's future has been the subject of intense speculation in the world of F1 in the days since the allegations emerged on Monday. Many insiders who have discussed the situation with BBC Sport do not expect him to survive in his role. However, Horner is a powerful and influential man, both inside Red Bull and within F1, and it remains to be seen whether this will lead to his downfall. FULL STORY

After a record-breaking round of games we assess the key factors, including the impact of new added-time directives Once Phil Foden completed his hat-trick at Brentford to secure Manchester City’s 3-1 win, he set a record collective 45-goal haul for a Premier League round. It followed a weekend where only West Ham, losing 3-0 at Manchester United, and Sheffield United, beaten 5-0 by Aston Villa, failed to score. It eclipsed two weeks of 44 goals, the first in front of Covid-restricted empty stadiums in the second round of the 2020-21 season, and then last season’s 34th round, which included Brighton’s 6-0 walloping of Wolves and Crystal Palace’s 4-3 defeat of West Ham. Saturday’s haul of 26 goals over five matches was a record for a single day, heavily nudged towards that by Newcastle and Luton’s 4-4 draw. The 2023-24 season has brought comfortably the highest rate of goalscoring in Premier League history, with 730 goals rattled in from 228 matches, an average of 3.20 per game. Last season’s 380 matches delivered a previous record rate of 2.85 goals per game for 1,084 goals; no season’s matches have averaged above three goals per game. The self-proclaimed best league in the world just got better, though a statistical curiosity is that after last weekend the Bundesliga had a near-identical rate of 571 goals in 179 matches – 3.19 – and the Dutch Eredivisie had witnessed 577 goals at a 3.21 average. La Liga’s 2.64, Ligue 1’s 2.51 and Serie A’s 2.55 rates show no vast difference from last season. Only the Premier League has made such a leap. The Guardian.

Andy Murray's difficult start to the year continued with defeat in Marseille but Heather Watson earned one of the best wins of her recent career at the Abu Dhabi Open on Tuesday. Murray lost 7-5 6-4 in another error-strewn showing against world number 66 Tomas Machac at the Open 13 Provence. He has lost all four of his matches in 2024, including a first-round exit at last month's Australian Open. Meanwhile, Watson beat Russian ninth seed Veronika Kudermetova 6-3 7-5. The convincing first-round win was Watson's best in terms of ranking since 2017, with Kudermetova ranked 16th in the world - 140 places above the former British number one. "I played really well and had a lot of fun out here today," said Watson, who beat 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in qualifying to make the main draw. "I played a Grand Slam champion in the first round and that gave me a lot of confidence. That really helped. I knew the conditions and felt prepared for today." Tiger Woods will play his first PGA Tour event of 2024 at the Genesis Invitational in February. The 15-time major champion has had a limited schedule since suffering a leg injury in a car crash in 2021. Woods last played in December when he said he expected to play one event per month in 2024. The 48-year-old says he is "excited" to be playing at the Genesis Invitational, which he hosts, and which starts in California on Thursday, 15 February. Woods withdrew from the Masters in April 2023 before making his return to competitive action at the Hero World Challenge in December. The American also played alongside his 14-year-old son Charlie at the PNC Championship in Orlando in December. Woods' last win on the PGA Tour was at the 2019 Zozo Championship in Japan, which saw him equal Sam Snead's record of 82 Tour victories. BBC SPORT

Alpine driver Pierre Gasly says he was not surprised by Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari for the 2025 season. Gasly said at the launch of Alpine's new car that he was "aware of [Hamilton having] some talks with Ferrari". "He is towards the end of his career, so it was now or never," Gasly said. "But I think it was kept secret for a long time," added the French 28-year-old, who is a close friend of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and plays computer games with Hamilton. He refused to say how he knew about the Mercedes driver's move. Gasly expressed little sympathy for Leclerc's team-mate Carlos Sainz, who is now looking for a seat for 2025. "Carlos is a great driver, Lewis is a fantastic driver, best of all time," Gasly said. "There was an opportunity on both sides and Ferrari and Lewis took it together. It leaves Carlos in a more tricky situation and it's not easy." Alpine slipped to sixth in the constructors' championship in 2023 after finishing fourth the year before and underwent major internal upheaval. They scored two podium finishes in 2023, one for Esteban Ocon in Monaco and a second for Gasly at the Dutch Grand Prix. Gasly said his team had taken "risks" in changing their car concept for 2024 and that this had the potential to lead to a difficult start to the season. BBC SPORT
