  1. Remember, too, that although the BULATS test does include reading and writing, these are not required for a visa; only speaking and listening are. So as long as she scores A1 or above in speaking and listening it doesn't matter if she fails reading and writing.

The UKVAC used to contain a list of approved test providers in Thailand, but since they and the UKBA have 'updated' their websites, this seems to have disappeared!

All I can find is the complete list of approved providers, some of whom operate in Thailand, most of whom don't!

Indeed, And as always, the UKBA confuses matters further by defining an acceptable score with BULATS at CEFR A1 as:

    Reading – 10

    Listening – 10

    Speaking – CEFR A1

    Writing – CEFR A1

    What a sorry mess!

  2. Hi

    Sorry for the late reply

Thanks for the information, for info I did manage to find one in Malaysia.

    http://www.azembassy.com.my/

    regards

Closest Embassies in Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea or Japan.

Have you checked you can get a visa through the Embassy in Malaysia - there is no visa information on their website, unlike for the countries I provided above.

    Good luck with it.

  3. Stay the hell away from bluehost!

They stuff accounts on shared servers and CPU throttle like mad. Their tech support is useless and if you run into slow MySQL query problems (you will eventually) or constant CPU throttling they'll first suspend and then terminate your account.

  4. Electrons NEVER travel at the speed of light. Period. They do not have a zero rest mass.

Only changes in the electric field can propagate at the speed of light in a vacuum NOT the electrons themselves.

In 12 gauge copper wire for example, the velocity of the electrons is just shy of 80cm/hr.

I doubt there is much of an improvement in ping time because electron speed is limited to the speed of light [...]

No they are not. Electricity travels at about 2/3 of the speed of light.

If I recall correctly this is actually starting to be a hurdle for modern computers. Again, if I recall correctly.

Correct when traveling through a substance such as copper, fiber optics, etc. But in a vacuum like outer space they do travel at the speed of light because they can travel in a straight line and without bumping into anything. And even when our technology reaches the point of creating fiber optics that don't slow down electrons/light particles due to the path followed, the speed of light will still be the upper limit--well, until we develop warp speed technology that is. Cheers.

  5. I'd suggest company registration certificate, VAT registration certificate, 3 months recent bank statements.

Thanks for the link. The tricky bit is where they advise: "if a company is not known to the Embassy, it might be necessary to prove its existence and its financial capacity to support the visa application".

  6. The point is that age is an arbitrary tool. It's useless in achieving the end result. You've alluded to it in previous posts but the key clearly is the genuineness of the relationship. It is the relationship that should be scrutinised, not the ages of those involved or their nationalities.

Besides, the age ban was so full of loopholes, such as not applying to those who entered the UK as points-based applicants, that it was laughable really.

And again, there was no evidence that members of HM Forces were more or less likely than the general population to be involved in forced marriages, yet they benefited from an exemption. Nothing to do with the Commonwealth or providing family support to front line troops, as it applied equally to a Baby Para knee deep in Afghan or an AGC clerk back home.

Really it was a rushed, ill-thought out piece of legislation that was not evidence based, albeit with good intentions.

  7. Then we are talking about the same case. As I said heard in Birmingham in late July.

It's not about EEA v non EEA but the UK's unique double language requirement.

It was argued that the new rules are unlawful at common law and/or incompatible with Articles 8 (right to private and family life) and 12 (right to marry), coupled with Article 14 ECHR (obligation not to discriminate in relation to enjoyment of Convention rights); there is already a requirement for migrant spouses/partners to learn English. The change to the Rules therefore concerns where and when. Applicants with no or very little knowledge of English could previously come into the country for a maximum of 27 months, after which they would have to demonstrate “sufficient knowledge of the English language and sufficient knowledge about life in the UK” . Those wishing to apply for indefinite leave to remain upon entry had to pass a language test.

  8. Don't go the fiancé visa route as you will surely fail. You must intend to get married within 6 months of your arrival in the UK, and settle there together afterwards.

People's plans do change affording some flexibility - such as marrying overseas instead following the stay - but you two clearly don't fit this category.

  9. You can do it from earnings or savings only, or both. 3rd party support is allowed though this is under review.

Your partner's future earnings potential can also be taken into account.

The minimum established in case law is income support for a couple at the time of application. The UKBA refer to this as a guide only, however if your finances are below this level and your application is refused, chances of success at appeal are small.

  10. This is not quite right, I believe.

There is a convention that a visitor to the UK will not spend more than a maximum of 6 months out of 12 in the UK. There is no rule dictating how long an applicant must wait before applying for a new visa. Jane has only spent a total of 2 weeks so far this year in the UK.

Sounds like she doesn't have a multi-entry visa as its validity is only 6 months, so she will need to apply for a new one.

She must have been out of the UK for six Months before you can apply for a visa again, And the time starts from the date of your last Visa. Also she must have at least six months left on her Passport. Most visas have to be applied for from her own County depending on which Visa you get now.

  11. There is no problem under Thai law with dual nationality. I believe there are also members of this forum who have dual Thai-Australian nationality.

And a tag on question, someone tried telling me last night that after the two years she would be forced to give up her thai passport as the Thai govt wouldn't allow her to hold both. But she wouldn't have an Aussie passport yet (she will eventually, but certainly not after two years—that will be down the track).

Will there come a day she has to make such a decision?

I want here to eventually get an Aussie passport for convenience of travelling to any country that I can, but we don't want her have to relinquish anything she can do as a Thai (for example, being the reason I can stay here :-P)

  12. I do enjoy it when people criticise English skills yet demonstrate a poor standard of English themselves.
