  1. Plenty of lessons to be learnt from the Troubles and the Malayan Emegency.

IMO area and population security are key factors in the deep south as is hearts and minds.

I do not know what the general consensus of the deep south population is. Do you want to break away or remain Thai? This is a key question. Anyone know if any such surveys have been carried out or am I dreaming since TIT?

  2. IMO and from lessons learned (I worked in the IT field for 15 years); It's usually a wise procedure to wait a at least a few weeks after a new software release before installing it yourself. Let someone else experience the problems and bugs. Just about all new software has bugs. In fact, for any Microsoft Operating System, I would always wait until after the first "Service Pack" was issued before installing it myself.

Or you could install the dev build side-by-side and actually support the open source software you use by helping with bug reports etc.

You can do the same with Chrome Canary.

  3. The numbers mean nothing, there is no international standard. What True call 45% DTAC might call 10% or any other number. There is also no relevant threshold for useable service that can be compared either.

Remember you are connecting using a mobile data connection. The previous reply citing cell phone bars is quite correct. Your software just presents it as a %.

  4. Why didn't she just secure ILR through the access-to-child route suggested to you in the original thread many months ago? It would have been sorted by now and the two routes currently under consideration are messy indeed.

For the record, and having grown up in a violent household, i do not agree that being ejected from the family home is domestic violence. There is no pattern of abuse, no desire for control, just the end of a relationship. The Police clearly were not convinced a crime had taken place and most charities will not define DV within the parameters provided in 7by7's narrative.

  5. The reason for having this is related to real estate so must have a thai name/ID/Passport.

Rubbish!!! to own land in Thailand a Thai only needs a Thai ID and asssociated Tabien Baan. My wife has done this for the last twenty years, she has never been allowed by me to have a Thai Passport since obtaining Australian Citizenship. She and our kids travel on Australian Passports and pay visa fees when staying at our home if more than 30 days.

The "real reason" is she was trying to avoid paying a fee for a visa if staying more than 30 days on an Australian Passport. A trap many Thai's are falling into, by shuffling passports, since airport and airline security measures have been upgraded.

Why do you forbid your wife from making use of the nationality she had at birth? I find this very odd.

Nothing wrong with holding and using two nationalities. No trap. And no avoiding fees for visas...she is Thai too you know?!

  6. here on a non-o visa if i get a work permit do i need to change to a b visa if so how do i go about this

If you currently have a 90-day permission to stay based on arrival in Thailand with a non-O visa you can apply for a work permit but most likely not pick it up once it is ready. To pick it up, you would need a one-year extension of stay for the reason of living with your Thai wife.

I don't have an extension of stay and had no problems.

  7. The gripe I have with the London embassy is that they'll stamp a Non-O based on marriage "employment prohibited", which is actually incorrect and to the best of my knowledge, impossible to have corrected.

What it means is to alert you that the visa does not allow you to work. Only a work permit allows work. If Labor Office allows O visa work work permit they should still issue with the notice.

I could not get a work permit with a non o issued in London with that endorsement. I had to postpone a year and get a fresh non o from KL which did not carry the endorsement.

The labour department and immigration were sympathetic but told me nothing could be done with the employment prohibited endorsement.

  8. Selling second hand CDs is a delicate issue around the world.

Recent legislation in Florida, Utah, Wisconsin, and Rhode Island has made it more difficult to sell used CDs in those states than it is to get a driver’s license. In Florida, for example, anyone attempting to sell used CDs to a retailer must present identification and be fingerprinted, and any retailer looking to sell those same CDs must apply for a permit and submit a $10,000 bond with the Department of Agriculture and Human Services.

  9. ID (same used for LitUK test if applicable), LitUK certificate / ESOL certificate as appropriate, evidence of eligibility (e.g. If through marriage then spouse's passport/BC and marriage certificate, evidence you're free from immigration time restrictions (most likely shown in your passport).

Read here for a comprehensive explanation:

  10. <snip>

"And what kind of questions are asked?"

Various questions about your family and background - remember it's satisfying the interviewer that you are who you say you are.

    Cough ... Valid point

"your family and background" are important issues regardless of which country you are applying for a Visa.

No, this is a passport application not visa! And these checks are done to ensure the paper applicant is the applicant sat before them.

It has nothing to do with what you are suggesting!

  11. "Lived with partner under 5 year"

isn't that a bit young for a partner?

"Lived with partner under 5 year"

isn't that a bit young for a partner?

    cheesy.gif Very good

I note the observations about the lack of options to accurately describe the convoluted relationship status of our more, ahem, frisky members such as BigJohnnyBKK and the self titled " throbbing member " Wana. You should get a Doctor to look at that Wana.

I'll start a thread next week called " Are You A Slapper ", that should be a busy one.

@phuturica, I tried to make the poll Asexual, ladies should be able to read it as it applies to them, and our gay members should also be able to do the same. Everybody is equal in a relationship but you know that already.

@david48 congrats on making your 1000th post, and I agree that people wouldn't move away from you in a bar.

@smokie36.......I'm trying to blank said episode out of my mind!!!!!

ps. The poll is making for some interesting reading.

thx blether ,but id prefer to leave it in the hands of some nurses ;)

    Hahahahaha

@theblether - wish you'd expanded the dependant on your wife %s. Were you limited in the possible responses allowed?

  12. come on the pool............

    BOOO!!

Park, Park wherever you may be,

They eat dogs in your country,

    But it could be worse,

    You could be a Scouse,

Eating rats in a council house!

    Come on Chelsea!

  13. File-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers, the High Court has ruled.

The Swedish website hosts links to download mostly pirated free music and video.

Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media must all prevent their users from accessing the site.

"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) said.

A sixth ISP, BT, requested "a few more weeks" to consider their position on blocking the site.

  14. ps. Old soldier story coming up, I was on Operation Lionheart in 1984, known as a REFORGER exercise to the US forces. It was the biggest mass movement of NATO troops into Germany since WW2. I think 160,000 troops flew in in 5 days.

Anyway, theblether was on guard duty at a River near Hannover, I was in the Royal Engineers, and we had just built a Bailey Bridge.

    theblether was proud of himself.

    Just sayin'. smile.png

    Shh, crap hat

    :)

  15. Well, simply put, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) always likes to err on the side of caution. In 2006 the FAA request the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics to test the effects of cellphones, Wi-fi and other devices on planes. They found no evidence to support the idea that such devices cannot interfere with the function of airplanes, and they found no evidence that they can affect flight safety. So there we have it. The problem.

  16. Some people fly to KL... go through Immigration and to the check-in and fly back on the same plane.[ they book a return ]

Buying the return at the airport in KL not sure, could be no seats left ?

I had a look at the flights for that but I would worry that any delay at Immigration may cause you to miss the return flight as the flights only seem to be on the ground for 30 minutes or so. Would like to see a post from someone who has managed it easily.

Air Asia same day return to KL. Leaves BKK mid morning, returns around 4/5pm.
