  1. I have just put down another borehole on our property and am now looking for a submersible pump to supply the water.

Looking for something that can deliver about 2 litres/sec at 80m head from a 200mm hole.

Khon Kaen or Maha sarakham area.

Thanks for any ideas where I can find.

  2. I don't know about Udon but there is a Large government fish hatchery in Khon kaen located right about just North of where the 'A' is:

    Is this place still open?

I will be up in KKC in a few days and am after a few different fish for my dam.

  3. Well we certainly did our part of bringing down the average rice yield this year. 4 rai and only 840kgs of rice. Must admit that 2 of the rai we didn't even bother to reap as virtually no rice at all and plenty of weeds, grass etc.

Amazing how people can talk of living off the land etc when some of us live ni areas where there is no water to pump and when the rains don't come all dies.

My fish will be very lucky to make it through this dry season as we are starting off with so little in the dams

  4. Anyone know what the latest paperwork requirement for 90 day report is?

Just visited KK yesterday for my yearly extension..

90 days is the same as before: Application form, previous 90-day receipt notice, copies of relevant pages in passport (photo page, entry stamp page, current visa page).

However, everyone applying for extensions had to fill out two new (to me) forms that basically said you have been officially notified of the penalties for overstay (with a list of overstay duration and corresponding years you will be barred from entering the kingdom) and also that you must report every 90 days (maybe with the penalties as well, I just scanned this sheet quickly).

Hint: If you are socially capable (smile and be nice to those with whom you interact), you can ask for your 90 days and re-entry after they are almost done with your extension and get all three done at once (without having to line up for the latter two). Just make sure all your application forms, passport copies (sans the latest stamps of course), and photos (for re-entry) are ready beforehand, and place them in front of you when your extension is being approved by a superior in the back. Then when your passport comes back, either go copy the latest pages with stamps or tip one of the blur-shirted interns to go do it for you (the interns serve as runners for the officers when it gets busy).

Do you require proof of address for retirement extensions?

  5. I'm not on a retirement visa, but, out of interest, do you have to "report" to the nearest office to your officially stated residence, or can you report to any Immigration Office in Thailand?

Can a member on a retirement visa provide a reply to my question?

As far as I know folks on a one year extension can make the 90 day reporting at any immigration office.

Thanks. What is the official punishment for not reporting within the 90 days?

Shot at dawn for a week!!!!

  6. Love this sort of stuff. We are just about to head up to Khon Kaen after quite a few years in Phuket. Just going to dip toes in the water for a year and see if it will suit our family or not. Not burning any bridges yet but definitely pretty excited about the whole idea.

As for the OP well we are going to give it a go as would forever regret it if we didn't at least give it a try.

  7. Has anyone tried Sala Mexical, in the last 2 months??

    Yes, why?

    How was it??

Never been, so I would like to know if its worth a trip

I frequent Sala Mexicali, and recommend that you give it a try. The food, although not authentic Mexican, is very good - they use fresh ingredients and no MSG. The service, in the last year, has really improved and now they have a crew of very young, sweet Thai girls with big smiles who repeat your order. I recommend you try the mango salsa, the chicken quesadilla and the margaritas.

Went there a few nights ago and was not impressed at all. Very bland and not much filling with plenty of the starches to fill the plate. Nice rustic place though and good parking for a change.

If the highly irritating radio jingle is anything to go by then, yes, PUSCO is still up and running, Peter and all.

Slightly off topic - none of the usual radio stations in my car seem to work anymore - just static, what gives!

Ha ah couldn't agree with you more about the radio ad. Extremely annoying!!!
  9. Last time I went to Phuket and needed Taxi after long long journey I opted for a private taxi...and paid the supplement...after waiting for 30 mins I questioned the taxi people and ...coming coming!!..another 15 minutes and again by now getting angry...not have not have..have minibus only...no refund etc and as tired and fed up went in the taxi with a couple who was on there first visit to Thailand....half way or so to town they stopped and tried to railroad us into a hotel booking with all sorts of stories about hotel no good !! etc.
In the end I got a little angry and told them they have 5 minutes to take us to our destination or trouble....my partner was Thai so she helped too...We ended up in a minibus with a driver driving like a madman and when asked to slow down went faster..it was very very dangerous and I don't scare easy....This was maybe 5 years ago and since have always advised people who ask me where to go not to go to Phuket..and will continue to do that..The couple who I kept in contact with were not happy and have never been back to Thailand since....just one example of what these mafia etc are doing to Thailand...how much better the place and image and expectation would be with out this stuff going on.And from reading comments it doesn't seem to have changed...

Well well after not being here for 5 years you still follow, and post, on the Phuket forum on TV.
  10. Thanks for the replies.

Wanted to know if you felt this was a good rental deal:
    https://www.rentalfortheholidays.com/en/room.aspx?std=697

It's in the Base, a 2 bdr/2 bath and we can pay by credit card. It's 45,000 thb a month though which is high. The amenities are really nice in the building.

Anyone know if we can just stop by this building once we are there and rent a similar unit?

Just wanted some guidance as we don't want to get a bad deal. Seems like a really nice place though and close to things in walking distance. Thanks.

Where are you going to be walking to? Only things in this area are a few shopping malls and a bit further away is Phuket town itself. If you are coming for a beach holiday then suggest you find a place by one of the beaches themselves
