A quality tourist is someone who comes here and stays in a 5 star hotel or resort for 2 weeks and spends a load of money dining and shopping.

I'm sure TAT does not consider someone who spends time in Nong Khai or Udon as a quality tourist.

According to TAT, a quality tourist is a tourist with an income of 80'000 US$ or more per year, see immigration card. And what should I buy in Thailand? Coconuts or bananas? Or fake watches and similar rubbish? Thailand is not a good shopping place today, things are more expensive then in some European countries, e.g. computers, labtops, cameras, watches, etc. And no garantee in case of problems.

If you are such a quality tourist why do you expect to enter Thailand on a visa free entry and why do you have to do your entries by land?

Try paying for a visa and flying in instead.

If price is your primary concern then what makes you a quality tourist?

Should I fly to Vientiane when I stay in Nong Khai or Udon Thani? By land 2 hours, by flight 8 hours with stopover in Bangkok. So you see, time is primary concern, not price. You should think logically.

Why don't you just fly in and out like most "quality" tourists do? I've never had a problem with getting tourist visas and just coming in and out with a months break.

Why should I fly to Vientiane, when I stay in Udon Thani (70 km) or Nong Khai (20 km)? Overland it is less then 2 hours, flying means go to Bkk and then to Vientiane. Minimum time about 8 hours. You should think more logically.

  4. It is nothing else then a desperate move of TAT and immigration to boost tourism. On the other hand, the immigration does all to keep quality tourists like me away from the country, by limiting entry by land border to 2 times per year, with visa-free entry for now 30 days. So I am forced to spend my money in Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia. Never mind, prices in all these countries are cheaper then in Thailand. And they have nice beaches (not in Laos and Cambodia) and landscapes also.

  5. Thailand's economy is further going down the drain. Poor result of 2 years law and order politics of Prayuth. So the fortune teller seems to tell the truth. Postponing elections will not resolve economic problems, it is more the opposite way. So good luck, Prayuth, you should accept the fact, that military governments NEVER have been able to resolve problems of a country, because they are part of the problem, not of the solution. Loosing face is another problem.

Indeed. And while "brothels" are illegal in Thailand, prostitution isn't!

This is clearly not true. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, read the law if you not believe it. But as for many other things the law is not respected, because there are too many to take profit out of it (from police to tourism industry, from prostitutes to politicians). Thailand is a deeply conservative society, with lots of hypocrisy.

  7. I am from the US but just to follow up about my opinion that the US is #1.

I guess maybe you cannot call it all corruption, but maybe just scamming/ripping people off.

Why is my internet and cable in Thailand $30 and in the US for the same service $200?

Why is my electric bill here $30 and in the US $200-$300. ( and it rarely goes out here)?

Why is my water bill here $3 and in the US $50?

Why are property taxes for a new house in the US 2% of the purchase price every year, and here it is zero?

Why are monthly maintenance fees for a quality Condo $600 a month in the US and $50 here?

Why is a massage $60 in the US and $6 here?

Why is a special service $200 in the US and $20 here?

Why is a Taxi for 30 minutes in the US $100 and $12 here?

Why is a bottle of water $.30 here and $1.50 in the US?

Why do I pay less then $200 a month for medical insurance here and in the US it is close to $1,000?

Food, gas, haircuts, on and on what else?

Oh yes, taxes. State, federal, merchandise, food and property are all taxed.

Now throw in the political system, judicial system and financial markets.

The US is a scam place. Always some crisis or excuse to raise the price of something.

Too many people sitting in offices doing nothing and making $75,000 a year.

If not the word "corruption", scam ripoff fits the bill.

The answer is simple. The US are a capitalist country, where prices go up and the average living standard is going down. Even the the average live expectance in the US is going down. The golden years after Second World War are over.

  8. It seems to happen quite often. I had a similar problem on a flight with Thai Airways (codeshare flight) from BKK to Zurich. Baggage damaged, no compensation until today. Now I BOYCOTT Thai Airways by all means. And I bet that this airline will not exist anymore in 5 years, it is going down the drain. Too expensive, too bad service, too many delays, And the savety standard is also not good.

  9. If it was not so serious it would be amusing to watch these countries implode. But it is serious. Deadly serious. What is wrong with them? None of the explanations for this suicidal lunacy seem to pass rational inspection. There is no such thing as a secular Muslim and if there was we would have seen useful input by now. I rest my case. What kind of a world/Europe do Mrs Merkel and her mates think they are leaving for their grand children?

    What is wrong with them?

Nothing. It is all part of the dilution plan.

Just so happens that Orban and a few others are beginning to see clearly and are starting to throw spanners into the works.

When Brexit happens, poor GB, where are the export markets? China? Africa? Thailand? Russia? And the fascist Orban should be quiet, he wants the money from the EU, but no obligations. The EU should candel all money to the Visegrad countries, if they not accept common solutions. Otherwise they can leave the EU and join the Russian common market. Good luck!
