My theory is that the bad drivers in Thailand learn their road skills on a motorbike first, most likely in a local neighbourhood where life is informal and road rules hardly matter (not wearing a helmet, riding the wrong direction at the edge of the road, not indicating, ignoring road signs and traffic lights, and generally being cavalier towards other road users).

I don't believe it is possible to enforce proper road use on every dust road in every village right across Thailand, therefore it is not possible to eradicate entirely those bad habits and attitudes once they get onto the highway in cars.

Rigorous testing that denies poor drivers a licence should have some effect, though many will still drive anyway.

Rigorous policing should have some effect, but the problem is really more than they can handle.

Education and public information films should have some effect, but really bad drivers won't care anyway.

Darwin's law should have some effect, but the supply of bad drivers is too great.

There must be a solution to this though. I'm still thinking...

No country can eradicate you got most of it right little here a little there to reduce the problem but simply saying don't do it leave it to the honor system has shown it doesn't work.  The problem the small majority you don't want to be on the receiving end in a society the government has the job of protecting the majority even if it makes the minority unhappy. There isn't in any country enough manpower to enforce a major part of enforcement is putting Doubt in driver head that is What stops us from the west Driving all of us have been stopped for violations and when you pay that fine. Etc..  Need time Doubt that is all it takes a little here and there. Until driver start to have to think about the consequences just like if you to Rob a bank? It really is that simple as many like you know Government particularly the U. S. Have studies for everything in their Transportation department I seen studies how effective a simple question can be in the driver test.  I've said many times If I take a handful of people from this forum and was able to apply our wisdom and experience Thailand will be one of the best and safest country to drive,.

The risk of testing positive is always there irrespective of there is pre-covid test or not. And if I am tested positive, I won't like to run around and spread in the population.

No one is saying you will run around the chances at this point is slim and none? The question naive belief your insurance will gladly paid if you test positive and it is just s walk in the part? What is happening you will pay up front first and you deal with the insurance to get reimbursed. All I can say is good luck.

Why it won't cover. And if not covered why I would buy the insurance. I will simply refuse to pay telling them I have insurance, approved by the government, and I don't have money.

That might be the case if that is how you want to spend your holiday?  From my reading some of the fine print noted if you want to be cover must submit a negative PCR test prior to the purchase if you want to be covered when you arrive and end up positive then there is a question of coverage if you don't have symptoms coverage if a Doctor certifies. Article a few month back tourist refuse to pay saying they had insurance but insurance refuse not sure the result government mandated something but clueless when thing don't go right.

That was never the reason anyway , its just something that's often stated on forums and it seems to have become a fact on forums .

Think about it ; Kids are in school at 2 PM and its illegal for them to buy alcohol anyway .

Why would there need to be a law forbidding kids from buying alcohol at certain times, when there's already a law stating kids  cannot buy alcohol at anytime ?

Yes they state which is the honor system which doesn't work here for years whether forbidden kids in my Thai village even before covid just go into local store 8-10 and buy for their parents. I was at my daughter's in-law home last week drinking having dinner fat little brother 11 gets on motorbike when he could have walked to the Lotus Fresh came back with a box of Leo. Law is useless never seen a kid turn away.

  5. That is a tough one?  My take go with the same first two I got two PFizer just got a PFizer booster in Pattaya a hour ago had no side affects before but today isn't over?

Thanks for the great tip!  I went yesterday to check things out I could have then gotten the shot but contacted my brother and we both went down this morning.  Everything once again was yes told 70 plus and got VIP treatment within 15 minutes paperwork done and confirm I was getting the Pfizer booster. While waiting you need to ask if you want confirmation in English outside.

    Thanks!!!!

If you decided to prosecute all of them there would be a hue and cry they are taking money from some poor people, life is cheap here, deaths on the road don’t take priority.

Correct,  that is exactly why nothing is done the police government think they are doing their people a favor the population is so disensetize to the death they have excepted as karma.

When. One live in a society what needs to be done is for the greater good at times hard but humans will adjust in time.

This is the reason I continue to state if it is to be fixed it won't be s Thai!

Money fines are to be diverted back to help the people and not as earned income!

  8. This suggestion shows and confirms the lack of education in regards from driving MOVING is just kicking the can down the road to the next crosswalk guess out of sight problem solved this is the same solution suggested by the RTP for the crosswalk where the Doctor was killed.

Station a handful of police for starts with a paddy wagon, tow truck, all the Thai T. V.  Station cameras,  Pre fill out tickets for 5000 baht and let the word get out.  Each day enlarge the net to other intersections when doing so start enforcing other laws broken speeding no helmet, reckless maneuver that is just the beginning of the list.

  9. No matter what solution are put in place only one thing works thereafter and that is enforcement. Enforcement is a form of education.

Problem here in Thailand no one and I mean no one lived here long enough to realize it can't change it because enable they themselves must be educated given alternatives everyone in general comes from the same system reason every idea is nothing but spinning their wheels going no where.  Then if someone does know too concerned about their own welfare too low on the pole to speak up.

Solution said it many times the problem has to be given to an outsider with absolut power to remove anyone and I mean anyone who tries to circumvent the new system once in place the solution to reducing is very simple but those in charge must have a clue as to how to change it.

I can bring them under the W.H.O. ranking (2) in the first year but it would've a lot of people upset! So until they find the will to do what it takes as the story noted it will continue the greatest resources of this nation will continue to perish  needlessly!

Thanks I know the place I will head down today to take a look,  did you have to pre-register? Or just show up.

  11. I had to check the date April 1st.?

Certainly this is the right step but I wonder will the possibility of allowing clubs to open just be the perfect excuse to shut them all down if there is an outbreak during and after Songkran. Timing is there any wonder China has an outbreak right after the O event?

Don't getting me wrong I'm not against opening I will be the first to swap split when they do! ????
