Get a 'yellow book', problems solved.

Except for the usual lack of consistency with DLT offices. Mae Teang [for example] will not accept the yellow book as proof of address. The address you enter on the form for a residency certificate will however satisfy Immigration, even if it's not your actual address; allegedly! If you are willing to cough up the 1000Baht for the 'express' option, you don't even have to visit the immigration offices, there is an 'agent' in the gas station car park opposite. Drop off am one day and pick up the certificate the next morning.

  2. Any advantage in using an agent anymore at CM Immigration?

I have needed to use an agent last year and this for reasons I don't need to go into.

My experience: arrived at agent office yesterday at 1pm to drop off my 'stuff'. They suggested we could go straight to Immigration. We did. "Queue full come back tomorrow." Back at 9:30 as arranged today, account book updated again; has to be same day as application. Last year (Promenada) we went to a separate office at the rear for priority processing. This year joined the same queue as everyone else, waited for a queue ticket as everyone else, went to the same counter for processing as everyone else, waited for the boss to countersign as everyone else. Agent charged the same fee as last year.

    Go figure ...

  3. Worth having but not always acceptable to 'certain persons behind the desk'. Went to renew my driver licence recently and the yellow book was refused as a verification of my address .. even though my name in Thai and address are on it. Insisted I must get a residence cert .. which 'normally' takes a week at CM immigration but a 'fast track' [!] is available for 1000 Bht. That's two visits to Immigration and two to the licence office.

If I paid by my UK debit Card then refunds went back there. But because I paid by COD they had no where to put it as I never used my Thai bank to pay. So they stuck my refund in a 'wallet' and told me to 'Activate' the account. Upon trying to do so caused a big problem in that being a farang I couldn't open one. So why in hell put it in there? Still haven't had my refund and I'm somewhat pissed about it as when I contact them I may as well talk to myself.

Get anyone with a Thai ID card to activate the wallet and then [as it's your Lazada account] you will be the sole user and be able to use and top-up as you please.

I just had notification that i have a bonus from  Lazada  they have credited my wallet with a huge windfall of  b2.38.

By using the wallet when there were special incentives I have received a significant few thousand Baht over time .. store coupons.

A previous post from attrayant mentioned spending half a mill over time but I would suggest most of us 'bluudy foreigners' don't come up to those levels .. and in a country where corruption is yet to be contained 'our' spending is so trivial as for it to be farcical that it should come to the attention of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Money_Laundering_Office_(Thailand). Being able to pay in cryptocurrencies maybe .. but Lazada Wallet as opposed to the many other ways to pay? Who [other than Dumb and Dumber] would consider that turning their [alledgely] ill-gotten gains into legitimate wares, by buying a few toasters from Lazada would be a solution?

Just started messing with the 90-day reporting mobile app...

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=th.go.immigration.immeService&hl=en

Thanks for posting the link .. always like to try these 'innovations' even if they have usually not reached/passed the BETA stage:

Downloaded on Android 8 no problem, but when attempting to register the 'date of birth' entry it provides a calendar which is today's date .... there appears to be no entry option other than scrolling one month at a time back to your birth date ... for many of us who are retired that would be an immense number of clicks!!! Did I miss something?

I think it’s safe to assume that the vast majority of the people not paying are not retirees who could be found easily but tourists who can flee the country. If you are on a retirement extension and have 800,000 in the bank then you have money the government can access to pay your bill.

Agree, and with the latest rule they have 400,000 year-round that we can't touch. Immigration know where we live [they get us to verify that often enough!] and the bank has our passport number >>>>> so there is 400,000 they can draw on if someone can't pay.

  8. The move from Promenada doesn't appear to have affected the online 90-day processing .. in my experience anyway.

I submitted 13 days before due date this morning at 8:40 and it was approved mid-afternoon. 'The next appointment' printed off without problem

As usual: only filled in the boxes with a red asterisk and used the drop-down menu where available; including the calendar for dates.

FYI, tried to do the 90-day report online and, SHOCKINGLY, it doesn't work.

I honestly believe that someone, somewhere higher up in the department has mandated that the website not be made workable so that the detested foreign interlopers must be inconvenienced every three months -- even if they are old and infirm.

Equally shockingly, I did mine at 10:13 this morning and it was approved [with confirmation email] within an hour!

  10. I applied for my 90 day with Chiang Mai Immigration -- or CHINGMAI as they prefer to call it on the form.

Hit the submit button at 10:13 this morning. Within one hour received an email that it had been approved! Confirmed by printing out the next due date. As usual got 90 days from the date of approval, not from the due date of March 6th.

Running Windows 10 and used the on-board IE -- however I did use Firefox Quantum for checking the approval and printing out the next appointment, so it might have worked with a submission on that. As recommended elsewhere in this thread, I only filled the boxes with a red asterisk alongside them and used the drop-down menu where available.

  11. Thanks for the responses.

Credit card is not a viable option due to currency exchange disadvantages. PowerBuy is also not competitive for my preferred buy.

I suggest part of the reason, why additional warranty cover is so expensive, is the way in which most 'electronic et al' products are produced these days. My previous TV was from a big-name TV brand. I was unaware at the time of how much outsourcing goes on to enable TV manufacturers to offer so many different models in so many different screen sizes. I bought the previous `TV not realising that a most significant part [the display panel] could have come from several different manufacturers. In this 'display panel lottery', as it has come to be known, the TV you see in the store is not necessarily going to be identical to the one that is delivered and set-up in your home. Retailers naturally want to sell TV's, and therefore have source material that will show off the product at its best in their store. However, this 'display panel lottery' could result in us getting a TV delivered that could not even show that 'enhanced' material in the same way.

    Not just electronics either ..........

  12. I am in the market for a new TV, as my last purchase gradually gave up.

The initial problem was just two months after the [miserly] one-year warranty period expired; top brand not a bargain basement purchase.

Initial searches suggest that the only brand that give the same warranty as my home country [three years] is Panasonic. Unfortunately their offerings don't meet my needs. And so ....

I have looked at all the major competitors here and one-year warranty is apparently all you get. The why [?] I am not interested in --- the 'how do I extend that?' is what I want and where every seller I have spoken says "No have".

Surely there must [?] be an insurance company here that will extend this one-year warranty to the very same warranty [usually three years] that the exact same TV gets in the US/UK/EU >>>>>>>

  13. Yes, the major couriers [Fedex, DHL et al] do have an agreement with Thai Customs to pay duty on everything they bring into LOS.

I was caught for duty on a Minix streaming box, and that came in from HK by EMS. Problem was the person who packed it put it in a Fedex, therefore it was channeled through the major courier channel.

To make the OP feel even worse [sorry] I delved through the relevant Thai import duty listings and TV boxes are NOT liable for any duty -- 0% rated! I was notified by the local post office that duty had to be paid of 2000Baht before the box could be collected. Upon showing them that it should be zero rated they agreed. However, they could only return it to Customs for re-assessment, which [based on previous history] could take up to TWO MONTHS to be processed and might still come back requiring the duty to be paid. Reluctantly I gave in. As mentioned above, better to buy via Lazada as all duties are included in the initial price paid; they didn't have what I wanted at the time. I guess Lazada's range of goods available will get even better now they are part of Ailibaba.

I read this question about the import duty. And the import duty is as far as I know a fixed fee from 1.000 Baht. Not depending on the weight.

The charges for flight depends on the weight, and distance, and your own flight ticket.

And so how much did your dog weigh? I thought it was only women who were concerned about their weight being mentioned.

I was merely asking, as from the UK it can make a major difference if the dog and carrier weigh over 32KG; then they must go as cargo and be subject to import duty..

Import duty for a dog is 1.000 Baht?

This I paid last time. And when you have brought your dog abroad and you want to re-import it you do not need to pay. Keep the receipt.

When you follow the rules (apply for a import permit first) it si quite easy. And even without an import permit it is easy.

Pay at the quarantine office, (at the luggage collecting area, coming from immigration to your far right) 100 Baht. They only check paperwork. But you must carry your dog.

When the dog is quiet you can try to follow the green channel. Cover the bench with a suitcase or backpack. When you are stopped tell you did not know.

My dog was very angry, so no way to use the green channel. But I was happy to pay 1.000 Baht import duty.

    Arjen.

Apparently works well if your airline carrier will accept the dog/cat/whatever as excess baggage. That is less than 32KG including any carry box deemed necessary.
