  1. Arrived today at 7.30. Got ticket number 11. I was out at about 9.30.

3 months ago I did online reporting. It was approved successfully and I had the paper from that attached to my passport.

Lady officer seemed like she see something like this for the first time and not sure what to do with it.

She mentioned something that I supposed to have another paper printed out (there was no other paper to be printed out other than what I had). My paper was clearly stating that application is approved, with reference number and transaction date.

I was getting stressed that I will be turned away, but finally she issued me another 90 days. I wanted to do it online again, but system is currently down for last couple of days.

The I/O is correct. When an online application is approved there are two links at the bottom of the page - one is as you mentioned - the other enables you to print out a document like the one you are given when the report is made at the imm office. It has the date when you have to report next on it. The two links only appear after your report online is approved.

  2. Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen, it's been fab. But quite a bit too hot in the weather department.

Sounds like "indefinitely" might be the focal point. If you unable to adjust to the weather here I doubt it will be any more conducive for you in the future.

As you stated that you have 'extended' twice there is one other issue to consider. Previously when Immigration changed their requirements for a retirement extension it was to increase the amount of income/cash in the bank that was required for a further extension. Those who had a current extension were exempt; known as grandfathering. No guarantee that will be the case if the current level is increased but if you should decide to return on a new visa you would most certainly need to conform to the current financial requirement at the time your visa was granted.

  3. I bought a VEOLO 4K box a couple weeks ago. Best box for streaming I have owned. You can also download an app for your android or apple phone to control the box.

The specs for those who are interested:

The flagship RK3288 Quad-Core Cortex-A17 SoC (system on chip), powering the latest Mali-T764 GPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM & 16GB Flash supplies all the processing and graphics prowess necessary for today and tomorrow’s entertainment needs.

    ac-ryan-veolo-4k-top-notch-hardware-spec

Good spec and interested in what made you go for this. If you are in Thailand maybe the price - as Lazada appear to have a 'fire sale' on them currently. On face value looks like a good deal.

  4. Anyone had personal experience of the MINIX NEO Z64?

I've got one. What do you want to know?

The usual stuff: Pros/cons/ease of setting up/reliability/comparison with any other android box you may have used/if you knew then what you know now would you have bought it?

I have an original Thai expat tv box [the white one] and it's lousy at processing the highly-compressed audio they send out. I hope the Z64 I have on the way does better --- while I wait for my existing subscription with TETV to run out. TETV currently offer the MINIX X7 for 5500 Baht - you can get the Z64 elsewhere for 4500 Baht

    Thanks

No need to wait to let your TETV subscription run out, they should supply you with the appropriate software link for download to use on the Z64 which is either Windows 8 or upgradeable to Windows 10. Works on my Windows 10. And yes, the boxes they supply are far from being the best available.

Thanks - yes I already have the software link: Its just a case of whether I renew next time around. Do you have any problem with the audio compression? I recently added a soundbar to replace puny LED TV speakers and the audio compression is throttling them.

  6. Buying online from our home countries often offers better front-end pricing - even when the item is produced in Thailand or the S.E.Asian region. However, unless we are making a visit [or a friend is] it's usually the 'postage' that scuppers the deal.

And so many of us look locally.

Just an example: Someone on another thread suggested Ensogo as a good online seller/portal:

Finding the website .com couldn't be easier. The homepage however offers location options - Hong Kong - Singapore - Thailand - Malaysia - Philippines - Indonesia. I am in Thailand and so naturally you would click on Thailand. Everything in Thai and no other language option! Some of you have learnt to read Thai but I would suggest that the other 90+% have not. Maybe I just missed the 'obvious'.

I can better understand the many magazines that are on sale here, where the headlines of articles are in English but not one word [except for those that don't readily translate] in the text is in English; is that appearing to be 'in with the in crowd' [showing my age] but otherwise puerile? Or is it simply that many companies in S.E.Asia are insular to the extent that they are unaware of the increased opportunities of selling to foreigners who reside here; or even tourists who might credibly expect to get a better price in the region where the product they are looking at is manufactured/assembled?

  7. If you go into "Settings" there is normally an option for "Software Update". This will update the current software somewhat, but I don't think it's possible to update the OS very easily.

Some Samsung TV's have the option of fitting one of these "Samsung "Evolution boxes". Basically they are like a small, more powerful computer that you fit to the tv, and allow you to extend the life of the smart tv by running later software updates.

Google "Samsung Evolution Kit" and you will see what I mean. Not cheap though.

Only works on 7000 series and above

  8. Any members bought from Ensogo?

    http://www.ensogo.co.th/en

I will answer my own question.

I ordered a product, transaction went smooth and delivered no problems or drama.

Unlike LAZADA, where an order turned into a nightmare.

I haven't tried Ensogo yet but have made four purchases recently from Lazada [one came direct from them and the others from their affiliates] all were cash on delivery and all 100%; the correct product, within the delivery estimated time, courier rang before delivery to ensure someone home. My next one might go t!ts up but so far no complaints.

  9. Having failed to do an online 90 day report using three different computers I visited airport immigration this afternoon at 14:15. Report done no problem and I was leaving within 15 minutes.

One assumes you're not on a retirement visa?

Feedback from friends seems to confirm that the airport office will only process 90-day reports for those visa extensions they currently deal with; therefore not retirement.

At Promenada they appear to be accepting all categories -- however -- one friend on a marriage extension was told by the prom I/O "next time go to airport"

Just feedback on what I hear; so do your own research and make your own decision.

    Or mail it in thumbsup.gif

Totally agree. But try the online system first.

  11. As often is the case, China may well have a different agenda in agreeing to sanctions. They are heading for a conflict situation with 'others' over their obvious intentions to control their [essential] shipping lanes through the South 'China' Sea: hence their increasing military presence in the Spratly Islands et al. They certainly wouldn't want a lose canon like NK to have an active nuclear presence close by.

  12. seriously, i wonder what life in Thailand will be like for expats from various different countries around the world?

i know as an American I have gold, silver, diamond jewelry, cash, real estate with no mortgage and could return (kicking and screaming) to the US if we had the long predicted global economic crash.

How do you see this affecting you in Thailand?

just more weakening of your currency? poor exchange rate? no pension? haircut on your savings? like 30% all at once to pay the bankers?

As the Chinese say, "May you live in interesting times".

May you also live in 'interesting' times -- and the "bird of paradise fly up your nose" wink.png

  13. I was clearly told on February 15th at the old Immigration (near airport) office that they are doing walk-in 90-day reports there. Now, as to whether they'll keep doing them after the hordes descend, only time will tell.

Should the hordes descend maybe [???] it will register with those who make the decisions that [even if they prefer some areas to remain grey] they would benefit themselves from making changes like this public knowledge. They are never going to mail everybody of course but put signs up! My understanding from friends is that retirement ext business [including 90-days] will be at the Promenada and marriage ext business [including 90-days] will be at the airport. Until further notice -- not that there will be one!

  14. Because The UK can not afford to leave The EU.The thinking is that if they did then Scotland would leave The UK and they are a large source of income to loose Then what industries is England left with? So dropping the value opf the pound at this time might send a signal to the big money people "not to back" leaving.

If Scotland was to leave the UK, that would mean a large sauce of income to loose. Please explain.

The only Scottish sauce I know of is 'Edinburgh Chippy Sauce' but even that is 'moonshine' as each chippy makes their own. whistling.gif

  15. I paid for ems, each way,But on the receipt, there is omnly one ems number,The sending one,and the guy in the post office never put one on the returned envelope But there was one on when it came back bit late??

Ask the cashier to write the return ems number on the receipt.

    Addressed to 'true blue':

Good friend can't even persuade his local post office to put EMS on the return -- "Cannot do, not legal"

My local office would do but you needed to ask for the return tracking number to be written on the receipt.

The main amphur office said -- "No problem" and printed out a receipt with both tracking numbers on it

Don't you just love Thailand? smile.png

  16. Thanks for share your view.. The mazda and for dealer i visited in Korat was located side by side, so they are same company?

Yes i had plan to buy a car i could keep for long time... Im not really drive very much...some weekly trips to city to Tesco..then a trip now and then...

    Pink

Ford used to have a shareholding in Mazda that gave them controlling interest. They no longer are in that position [due to post-2008 restructuring] but still have an 'alliance'. Hence [as mentioned previously] the Ranger may look and feel different to the BT-50 but much of what goes on out-of-sight is the same, As is the way with the many alliances that exist in vehicle manufacturing these days.

  17. Had just finished a SAS tour and was in thailand on R&R.. Met a Thai Billionaires Daughter... At a bar in Pattaya...got married and retired.. Now doing security for foreign diplomates and VIPs in BKK.... I was 21.

    Sent from my c64

"The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club. " or if it's the other SAS "The first rule of Flight Club is: you do not talk about Flight Club. " whistling.gif

Came here first in 1989 on a 'supplier thanks for your business' 10 day R&R. BKK Shangri-La, first night Soi Cowboy eye-opener, few tourist venues, other places of 'interest'. Then a few days in Pattaya. Lingering memories. I was then recovering financially from my first marital mismatch. It unfortunately took a repeat and another recovery period before - third time lucky - I retired early and just upped and walked away in 2007. Came here with my dog, two suitcases and enough to create a life. Both Bangkok and Pattaya were revealing back in '89 and the trip showed me which country I wanted to live in but [importantly] which areas I did not want to live in, and so I am in CM Province and couldn't be happier. Lovely honest and trustworthy partner [she is also self-sufficient] built a nice house, dog still doing well!

No regrets. Frustrations of course but that's usually the case wherever we are; us 'retired' folk really shouldn't get frustrated by things we can't change
