Taking the plunge
Neeranam replied to Padthaigoong's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I'd say it depends how the OP can sleep at night. I certainly wouldn't want to be an illegal immigrant in any country, especially one I wanted to live for many years. Chances are the agent is paying off senior police, so you are 'protected' but here the power changes so often that these police could be under scrutiny from the army, for example, and they won't care about the rights of the illegals. If I did do it, I don't need to as I'm Thai, but I wouldn't post on a public forum about it, as obviously bypassing immigration requirements is illegal. -
What city did you go to school?

Bring back the sad emoticon. Great actor, the best I saw was Cracker.

tell me the city

Keep posting and I'll uncover the fear you obviously have.

One incident 6 years ago, pathetic. Tell me where you are from and I could find similar attacks.

Great post. All cultures generally dislike or fear foreigners. I feel that some here have rather Colonial attitudes and can't accept this fact, so subconsciously, or not, bash Thailand's culture. Can't have them pesky Siamese thinking they are superior to I. Perhaps as many on this forum are retirees, they have worked hard in their society and want to relax and have fun with young women, despite their false teeth, lumbago, and prostate issues. They can't understand the contemplative life, or the Thai tradition of renunciation, apart from the Hippies. They have not been taught to live in the present, but to always work for the future, hence think Thais, who are taught to live in the Now, are judged as lazy. Some things shock those who have no cultural awareness, like for example, apologising or making amends. When you study the culture, you can see there are valid reasons for the differences. I'd say have the Buddhists here believe that 'negative' Karmic consequences can't be erased by apologising or making amends. The 'negative' Karma is going to come around an bite you in the <deleted> either in this life or later ones so why try to change it like the way Catholics are brought up. The Bashers just see that things are done differently and bash, and get their self-righteous importance validated by other with similar self-esteem issues.

BTS station. Why wear gloves, they were in plastic wrapping.

I estimate 30-50 in many areas, but agree.
-
I taught here for 25 years and can remember on one hand the times kids used F-word.
-
If you really think that, I highly doubt you have any Thai friends, that you don't pay for.
-
No one was in the street, don't know if he was wearing gloves, I'm sure they were in a bag.

This has nothing to do with Thainess, troll elsewhere.
-
Thais pride themselves on being non-confrontational and tolerant. Very different to where I come from, Leith/Aberdeen.
-
Too holy, what the flip are you on about? Foreigners aren't charged more, and if they complain, dirty or not, it's inappropriate. Refusing a free mask from a govt. minister at the start of a pandemic is shirty behaviour.

Fair points, but I would argue that, as a teacher, I can instruct others, esp foreigners, about what it is. It is interesting, I wonder if other countries have a similar thing taught at school. On a forum that generally bashes Thais, I guess it is no surprise that many view it as negative.

Fair point.

I see many people write 'Thainess' here as if it is something negative, it's not. I used to teach it as part of a Civics course and just found what I translated from Thai - this is the definition of Thainess - Participate and recommend others to take care of people with respect to Thai decorum. Show respect in speech and dress. Express through generosity and contributions to society. Appreciate and preserve Thai traditions, art and culture. Be a role model in Patriotism, adhering to Buddhist values, with respect for the King. Apply and spread the philosophy of His Majesty the King’s Sufficiency Economy. Practice self-discipline, integrity, diligence, knowledge-seeking, tolerance, and endeavor to practice these duties. Behave democratically as a good citizen in a variety of social activities. Examine information to make good decisions in various activities. Be self-disciplined in the matter of morality. Be tolerant, diligently pursuing knowledge and accepting consequences caused by one owns actions. Appreciate the value of peaceful coexistence in the Asian region taking into account the diverse culture, religion, lifestyle and environment. Mass killing exposes deep problems in Thai society

Found it, so can see when foreigners talk about Thainess in a negative way, they are wrong. Try teaching that in once class, if you still don't believe me - Participate and recommend others to take care of people with respect to Thai decorum. Show respect in speech and dress. Doubt all you want, I taught it for 3 years as an element of Civics. I can't remember what the person wrote but probably something that is negative - Thainess is all positive, things like Filial Piety, I guess you don't know what it is too. Actually, I translated the syllabus from Thai to English, for the government, if I can be bothered, I'll look to see if I still have it. -

I know, I used to teach it at high school. In fact, I never said it was anything to do with indirect communication. -
6- They do use cameras. 7- Why not? 5- Not true, just that most foreigners are too lazy to learn the language, and generally have no influence, and are not even on the bottom rung of Thailand's strict hierarchical social structure. 4- often Thais want freedom, look at the name of the country. 3 - When I first came here, I went to a large protest on Sanam Luangabout the new law to wear helmets. We laugh when we see foreigners wearing bicycle helmets ???? 2- I have a dark window, what do I not care about? I don't want Thailand to become like the west. I was in Scotland and told I couldn't eat a sandwich or drink my water when at the traffic lights, total nonsense.
