When the foreigner has a bankaccount in his name only, what happens when he dies?
Will it be difficult / time consuming for the thai widdow to access the money? If so, i would prefer to get 1 year visas in europe, rather then extend in thailand.
Thanks for answering.

Dual pricing has nothing to do with paying taxes.
Everybody, even tourists, pays VAT (sales tax).
Almost nobody pays income tax (not the poor thai, not the rich thai, only the small middleclass thai).
So let us stop bringing tax into the discussion.

Not the Nation stopped being funny some years ago.
Some posters stopped understanding 'funny' when they were born.

The Op sounds like an ad for skytrax.
And according to skytrax Turkish Airlines is the best European airline??
And where is Ryanair??

Another attempt by Abhisit to incite violence in the hope to discredit the PTP. This is desperation politics at it's ugliest.
I hope he explains why his forces continued to kill citizens long after they had surrendered within the walls of the Wat that was a agreed upon "safe area" and contained women and children.
I hope he reminds people that the protest was peaceful for 4 weeks before his troops attacked mostly unarmed citizens.
A peacful protest does not call for Bangkok to be burned if they do not get their way.
A peacful protest does not take over huge parts of a city and hold it to ransom.
A peaceful protest does not have armed men running around within it.
Sorry I may have a different meaning of peaceful to you. Can you please explain your meaning.
Peacefull excludes occupying airports and burning down buildings and organising coups and and and and.
Sorry for saying something intelligent, i am now awaiting the answers of the extremists.

of course, this is all legitimate, right?

I seldom have any rubbish. I only eat fresh fruit and vegetables or what I catch and kill. Any of the plastic bags I have get re-used until they finally break. What little I have goes into my hotel's garbage can when I'm in Thailand, or in my garbage can in Canada. I seldom have more than one or two small bags of garbage a week.
we try to keep the rubbish to a minimum
we feed our dogs and chickens (they are not choosy), we burn what can be burned safely, and we leave the plastic, glass, batteries and metal to the ampur. They burn / bulldozer it. Not our karma......

"Kasmi Ali Faycal, 33, Beldilala Nabil 21 and Khayyou Fares 22"
Sound more like some Arab names to be honest than French. Are they sure they are Frenchmen?

check the insulation of the door - perhaps air comes in, resulting in ice forming and higher electricity bill

...I say tit for tat.
That's the spirit. You should do something about it, like write to the Secretary of State suggesting that the US government should make it as easy for Thai nationals to receive US visas and enter the USA as it is for US nationals to get visas for travel to Thailand, and don't forget to mention also visa-exempt entry with permission to stay for 30 days. No personal interview for the visa application; no additional forms to complete online at least 72 hours before travel; no fingerprinting on arrival; etc.
tit for tat ............
or what about: making it easy for bona fide visitors, and difficult for male fide visitors, both in thailand and the rest of the world?
a couple of suggestions to start with:automatic WP for married partners in thailand, abolition of ED visa for westerners
Its very easy for a bona fide visitor show up at the airport and you get 30 days on arrival in Thailand and not that much harder for a 60 day tourist visa.
and that is a reply to my post?

I'm with you, buddy. If I wanted my life to be run by rules made by other people, I'd have stayed back home.
i am not with you buddies. I have never wanted to be killed by a freedom loving biker that drives on the wrong side of the street. I want to enjoy MY freedom for a few more years. And not in a wheelchair too.

Being over 50 why not not get a retirement extension of stay save yourself trips to Laos
But don't you need to show proof of money in bank or proof of pension from embassey?
The OP said that they used someone for the paperwork.......
Wink wink nodge nodge.

I guess the Thai government already knows that they can't just give 2.5 weeks notice.
Isn't it the Election Commission running the election? The government don't have anything to do with it.
I was a bit surprised at Suthep saying that foreign observers would not be allowed in the country for this election. Thaksin banished them from being inside the voting centre but allowed them to stand outside and take exit polls. As far as I can see, there were never any problems with this and the exit polls were usually correct so why Suthep thought to stop is surprising.
Suthep is not actually an MP himself either.
Suthep won a by-election in Surat Thani in October last year, so he is (or was before dissolution) an MP.
Cheating is not out of the question as they must be getting desperately worried about Phua Thai's lead. Thaksin's party won 233 seats in the last election and they need 250 to obtain a majority. Sentiment and support seems notably stronger this time around and so the chance of getting that majority is probably well over 50%.
Thaksin's party won 233 seats in the last election, but about 40 of those went to the BJT after PPP was banned, and a number of others have defected since.
That gives PTP 190-200 seats. Where will they find another 50-60 seats?
They've even rejected BJT as a coalition partner (not that they won't go back on their "promises"), so that means they'll need to find 50 seats with some of the other smaller parties.
How does a seat defect?
Does it crawl quietly away?
Has this ever happened to you, while making a sannitary stop?
Or did you mean: an elected politician betraying his electorate - which does not change the electorate?

I don't get on ThaiVisa much these days but a few days back there was a thread on tipping (do you and how much?) now this one on double pricing (ok or not?). I guess it must soon be time for "Farang, is it an insult or not?".
It just shows that no matter how much things change, things stay the same.
Double pricing happens to varying extents all over the world, if you don't like it or are not prepared to pay the price walk away.
Nobody forces you into these places.
Well, thats a cop out answer if I ever heard one. The world would never improve by such weak knee lame attitude's.Shall we just turn a blind eye to everything that is wrong because "it happens all over the world" (It does not by the way)
And because 'thing's just stay the same" ( wrong again, I have hope at least, thing's are improving)
Some people, like myself are not prepared to pay and neither to walk away ( and so far I have seen everything I wanted to see, including the taj-mahal, and all for free! Although I was once arrested and detained! well worth it!)
We should try to think a little better than this pathetic attitude and stand up for thing's we all know are plaining wrong. For, I should add, the benifit of all.
I don't think we should turn a blind eye to everything that is wrong with the rest of the world, only Thailand because this loony place makes up for its wrongs with a whole lot of rights. I break even every day, that is right vs wrong. But then I like riding my motorcycle the wrong way or a one way street. :jap:
Have you killed or maimed anyone yet?
And perhaps gotten away with it, after paying 200B?
oh - sorry; i just realise you are being cynical.

i am not a tourist
a traveller yes
not a tourist
do not insult me
you will vote for Palin?
not the monty python variety of course
and to learn to controll your anger towards europeans - right, a bunch of socialists - , you may perhaps try buddhism?
I have absolutely no animosity towards Europeans. I did not insult you. You are a tourist even if you prefer not to think of yourself that way. European nations have an exceedingly advanced rating on the democracy index --- and far more social welfare programs. It isn't right to compare Thailand with Europe. (or most other places) --- but simply put in my country it is not uncommon for non-residents to pay higher user fees than residents --- and when it comes to education it is not uncommon for international students to pay MUCH more than out-of-state students who in turn pay much more than state residents to access higher education that is funded by the state.
(Bringing religion into this IS insulting)
(There is some irony in you telling UG how to quote you )
about the quoting: i learned from the best

extremists attacking a non extremist

That is what all the tourists say.
the average tourist does not know the word traveller.

quote all - or nothing

so, only 1 non extremist left - not that the extremists would agree......

National governments work for the benefit of all citizens.
National governments work for the benefit of ... people who elect them. Basically they will do what ever it takes to be re elected next term.
If I was a bit more cynical, I'd say that National governments work for the benefit of ... whoever is in charge at the moment.
I found it's the major problem with people who support the PAD and the democrats, they are completely disconnected with reality. They have very high ideals, they should be praised for that, but they are completely disconnected from the real world so they are easy prey for real bad guys like Sondhi who takes advantage of their naivety to advance their very selfish agenda
i agree 100%.
and i hope that you agree that the things you said equally apply to The Fugitive and his party.
that would make 2 non extremists on this forum - not much, but it would be a start......

Immediately after the poll result, Thaksin announced
that provinces which had voted heavily for TRT would be rewarded in the allocation of
government spending. This, he explained, was a matter of gratitude. In Thailand's old
political culture, a patron must always look after his own people first. This principle is
now being elevated to national policy
What is the problem ? Of course when elected, someone first duty is to thank people who vote for him. Do you know any leader in the world, who, once elected, start by promoting policies favorable to people who didn't vote for him ?
I can understand that some people are not happy with the possibility of Thaksin's return, but please try to make sense.
What country do you come from? In my country, the new government usually starts by working on policies to improve conditions for the whole country. They don't specifically pick out electorates where they did well to "thank them" with extra government spending.
YOUR country?
Let me guess, your country is a democracy?
a western democracy.
Or should i quote the famous apologist saying: " it is their culture, do not interfere"?

Let's face it: this double pricing is pure and simple racism or xenophobia. It's wrong. Period.
It is is no way racist. Period !!
If it was racist, Farangs with Thai Driving Licences would still get charged the Tourist price.
TVVS ( ThaiVisaVictimsSociety) stupidity.
Well, a couple of years ago, you had no problem paying a lower price to enter a park, if you had a Thai DL. This year it seems to have changed. I have been told at several venues that my Thai DL does not exclude me from paying tourist price. So I don't go now. And yes, it is racist now as you define it.
Hasn't changed for me --- but if they tighten up on the DL thing it still won't make it racist. A DL does not make you a taxpayer or a Thai, it makes you a legal driver. A WP or taxpayer id card means you are a taxpayer, and a social security card means you are ... nothing else does. My DL has been enough to get me in everywhere at the local rate all but a time or two but when I go to a park I always make sure to have my WP with me ... just in case. Again, I won't pay extra to go to a privately owned business that tries to do this.
i have tried before to explain to you that VAT is tax...... I give up now - ok one more try: value added T A X
and the poor and rich thai do not pay income tax too - only the middle class does, all 7 of them.....
