Really they made Thai people look helpful and the Thai box company seem professional and very quick and competent. And they didn’t even try to renegotiate for a higher price. That definitely made Thailand look good.

What are you talking about, Thailand DOES all of that. There is a fee to visit Thailand itself at the airport …your exit fee, your visa fee. Do you think your English menu is always the same price as Thai menus??? Have you not heard of the commission your girlfriend/date can make after taking her out to a seafood restaurant? The restaurant keeps a little notebook and the girls go back the next day and pick up the cash. Hotel tax, everywhere in the world. Cruise ships, same.

Any Thai in general will have a deeper understanding of Thailand than the average Western person. However do they understand how that affects expats living here because they have a deep understanding of our culture too? Do they have a decent understanding of what our various countries are like and the rest of the word like many well traveled expats? I would expect for most Thais this is not an appropriate or happy place for them to hang out. But I would like to point out that many expat women do have a lot of valuable experience living in Thailand for decades. Some own businesses, many speak fluent Thai, and they are quite competent people and they don’t have Thai wives who do everything for them. I could make a giant list right now but we are not supposed to talk about members. But I am sure you can think of at least one or two, one who moderates the Health forum and Nancy who died. There was another woman moderator from Koh Samui. I have a retired friend who has lived and worked in Asia for 40 or so years and she speaks fluent Thai. There was a woman who owned a dog boarding business who when I arrived in 2004 spoke Thai and had been here for 11 or 12 years I believe. I could keep going on. These people know a lot of things beyond the bar girl situation. I would say it takes a special kind of courage to live here as a expat woman for any length of time.

He also made the statement that we always accuse Thai posters of being fake. I feel that is not true, so is he lying? He seems to know a lot about Thai music based on his statements. I am not familiar with this newer poster, but could he be the prior person who was pretending to be Yinn?

I mostly have only read this forum but when Thai women have posted on here they were treated very nicely as opposed to Western women who used to be set upon, intimidated and mostly harassed away. Well Nick, Proton says he met her? Who is Proton, that is a new name. No credibility. You have a new name too, I realize that is a necessity here sometimes but then it makes judging your credibility and history difficult doesn’t it? Transam wasn’t bullied by a small Thai girl. Even the fact that she was so aggressive and insulting sort of shows on its face that she most likely was not a young, Thai person much less a woman. I’m very happy to read that Yinn was fake. I was one of the posters who believed she was a fake and wrote about it. I believe I received some strong warnings to stop harassing her. The way she was allowed to harass and insult Transam was pretty shocking. It seemed to some of us at the time that she must have been employed by TV in order to get away with all that she did. Whatever the circumstances were it is sad that Nancy lost POTY to that situation.

Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder if the driver just totally made up the part about your bag hitting his car? Did the police see that on video? Is your bag hanging off your bike in such a way that is possible? It is no excuse obviously for the man to hit you later but since Thais hate to admit fault he had to think of some lie. I was hit from behind while slowing, in the day, with my turn signal on, my lights all worked, and two motor bikes driving together, one or both of them hit me, then they both fell down. Then they got up from the street and jumped on their bikes and drove away! Every Thai person I told about this, advised me to make a up a lie for my insurance company. They would say I should say I got hit in a parking lot while I was shopping. I think they all thought I was making up my story to some degree. I would ask them, why should I lie, I didn’t do anything wrong, and it might be obvious I am making up a story? It was just a repair to my bumper about 18 years ago, so it cost maybe 4000 or 6000 baht I think, I just paid it myself. I never asked people what I should do either, they would ask how my car got like that and I would tell them and next sentence would be their suggested lie, every single time!! Maybe the guy was just drunk. He thinks this story is better because he was too dumb to realize he was admitting to attempting to murder you. If he really did that I think he would say his brakes failed.

It was a road rage incident??!! WHAT?? Are they going to arrest him? Is he negotiating? I’m shocked although it has happened to me nearly, I’ve been chased around the city, I just out drove them. I don’t know what would have happened if they caught up with me. For honking of course, to prevent an accident.

What about treating older people with respect? Also we know some people get dementia or lose their filter as they age. That man looks quite old and frail to me, more than 70. I think if a comparable Thai man did a little ranting and yelling in the street the other Thai man would have ignored it. As in given him respect or written it off as he is a little crazy. It is really hard to see a frail older man get a beat down and this is not the first time I have seen this here by Thai men. Kind of disgusting.
