Foreign couple exposed for repeated taxi fare scams in Phuket
sikishrory replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I was sitting eating a bowl of ramen in suvarnabhumi awhile ago. It was around 200฿ from memory. A young blonde girl with a large backpack walked up to the menu, pointed out a dish and asked "can you do it any cheaper". She tried to haggle over a plate of cheap airport food then gave up and left. Also watched a young man try to haggle a bloody bicycle in chiang mai and get it down like 20 baht. Wtf people. -
I've.seen a thai woman crap in the gutter and thai men piss on phone boxes and walls in cties. Nobody bats an eyelid. Most taxi riders piss on the street nearby. Give me the location of 1 public toilet in phuket, pattaya or bangkok that is free and provided to the people by the council and not a truck stop, shop or bar. I can think of 1 in a park. Rarer than hens teeth.

This is life of Thailand expat in a nutshell. We will always just be second class citizens regardless of our documents or how well we speak / read Thai.

Best way to transport big-heavy-ish stuff between provinces
sikishrory replied to Na Fan's topic in General Topics
I moved my whole condo contents from pattaya to phuket using kerry's biggest available boxes. It's quite easy. They come and pick them up from you. The hardest part was needing to go to a few different 7/11s to gather the boxes as they were either low in stock or all out. -
Thailand’s Destination Visa loophole that could cost you

Hardly an "overwhelming" list of documents on paper. -
Great that it's open source but they need to address the privacy policy concerns and add an opt-out option. Until then it is only safe to run locally (ollama) or via a third party that processes data in a better way. Particularly: Where We Store Your Information "The personal information we collect from you may be stored on a server located outside of the country where you live. We store the information we collect in secure servers located in the People's Republic of China." and "The Services are supported by certain entities within our corporate group. These entities process Information You Provide"

British woman jailed after collecting debt from Thai millionaire
sikishrory replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In my experience getting a single baht out of a Thai is like trying to get blood from a stone. However, Thais seem to get baht out of everyone else like magic. The company should have used an intermediary agent instead of sending some ill-equipped woman who I assume knows about 3 words of Thai to come knocking on some rich, already agitated, Thai mans door. -

Phuket to use AI for traffic congestion relief amid road projects
sikishrory replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
"excess of vehicles TOURISM." I can't see AI being any less intelligent than what is happening now. Providing they know how to use it as sorry but often I see them unable to make a simple website or correct road sign let alone implement AI into traffic control. Has this magically cured Bangkoks traffic woes? Everyday cars are banked up in the heart of Phuket at the heroines monument roundabout and they close the thing? I'm not sure stopping the roundabout function and forcing people to pass, do a u-turn and pass through it a second time is "intelligent"? In my observations of passing through the thing almost daily a lot of people have no idea how to use a roundabout and the lines are worn away adding to the confusion of wtf is going on and what lane you are suddenly in. Where are the BILLIONS of baht going? I see a lot of money coming in but the output of infrastructure doesn't seem to match? Shouldn't it be a rich province with a wallet bursting at the seems to improve infrastructure? Even then they don't have a lot of wiggle room with Phukets sudden growth. New laws allowing them to "build on hillsides" and a huge road that passes right through what is left of the jungle in the centre of the island is going to destroy what's left of Phukets enviroment more. Last year it took them I think at least six months to add larger drainage and redo a 100m stretch of road beside Tesco Ratsada. Bit of a rant but it's frustrating to see what is happening to the island. I'm considering moving to somewhere far away from the traffic and hordes of russian tourists this year. The place ain't what it used to be. My opinion. -
you proove location with a photo of your entry stamp into vietnam. Be aware that they sometimes request all pages of your passport on top of this but that is not needed by default. They say 5 days for processing. Be aware of the public holidays listed on the embassies website not counting. If they request additional documents this can rest the clock. Also consider for each category of document you can only upload 1 pdf file with a small filesize limit. Example, All your muay thai documents need to be tinified and consolidated into 1 pdf. I booked ten days and was done in 5. If you use vietjet they are easy to reschedule as needed. I think the fee for that is $30 from memory.

Lazada - No Banking App payment anymore?
sikishrory replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in General Topics
I stopped using lazada a couple of months now and just using shopee. I always paid with thai bank card but it had some other issue come up that has been a topic of discussion here a few months ago. Would like to sort it out but it was quite a confusing pain in the ass to get my head around it from memory. -
Banged up: Thai prison nightmare exposed by British tourist
sikishrory replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Obviously full of Russians. This "Thai prison nightmare" is still better for them than getting blown in half in their frontlines. If Thailand sent them packing like Sri Lanka did quite a few would take their chances with overstay I think. -

Phuket netizens slam half-naked foreign man on red baht bus

Chaos on Pattaya Beach: Drunk tourists fuel brawls in hotspot
sikishrory replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Chuck them in a ring if they want to fight. Give them a safer space to bash the f out of eachother. For all the thai "security" belting people to within an inch of their life, send them to the army in the south. Russians deport. If they want to fight there is plenty of opportunity on their borders. -
Polish man arrested for spanking Thai woman’s bottom (video)
sikishrory replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Deplorable behaviour of a sex pest. That aside the way the police handle this visit is dishonest and shady. Maybe the light blurring of the suspects face means they can do as they wish with the footage. Sex pest: "What's with all the cameras?" Cop: "Oh it's a PDPA act in Thailand. It needs to be recorded that nobody is harming you". Ironically PDPA is Personal Data Protection Act. According to chatgpt: "The police do not need to record by law, but they may choose to do so within legal bounds. If you are uncomfortable, you can object, but the police may continue if they justify it as necessary for public interest or their protection. Consulting a legal professional is advisable if such situations arise." Lawful Purpose and Use: Recordings made by police must be used strictly for the stated purpose (e.g., ensuring transparency during an investigation or as evidence in court). If the footage is shared publicly without valid legal justification, it breaches the principle of purpose limitation under the PDPA. Consent for Disclosure: Under the PDPA, disclosing personal data to third parties (e.g., news outlets) generally requires the consent of the individual involved, unless specific legal exceptions apply. Breach of Privacy: If the footage is leaked or shared without consent, it constitutes a misuse of personal data, potentially leading to legal repercussions for the responsible party (e.g., the police department or an individual officer). Seems to be the modus operandi for this division of the police. Film it and sell it to news outlets. Entered twice on it. Just 1 week apart. Once in BKK once in Phuket. No issue whatsoever however I think it's a good idea to travel with the required documents and then some. A guy at the next counter also had evisa (saw the QR) and was getting asked for proof of his accomodation and the works by the looks. Could've been Tourist visa or DTV. Either way be prepared.

Phuket tourists smash wheel lock with rock, sparking outrage - video

Where are the no parking markings? The whole chaining bike things is weird. Where I come from people would just cut them and be on their way. A paper ticket to the registration owner is more effiecient.
