The news just gets stranger and stranger regarding this.
As I said in a previous topic on this, I really hope one day we get a full exposé on THAI and how its been ran in the last decade.

Is this open for those of us who live here and contribute to the economy each month, or is it strictly only a promotion for Thais? I am guessing the latter.
I am on my summer holiday in July and August and would happily holiday here, however I won't be paying the prices that I have seen advertised.

Surely you need to give her a test drive before accepting the offer?
If it is good then keep her as a fun second option, if not then you know you have the GF to keep you happy.

Some slightly good news, however it doesn't really address the full issues.
Unless there is a real change with possible longer term residency visas here then we are still just aliens on temporary extensions of stay.

Monday opening for us. Staggered start / end times and no break or lunch. Lots of other rules regarding cleaning, social distancing, use of equipment etc. One of the rules is it seems everyone is required to wear those bloody face shields ????.
I am fine with opening again, although some teachers definitely are not. Even some of the teachers with their children in the school have said they won't be allowing them to return.
The only difficulty now is working out what provision will be offered to the students at home. At the moment we are doing live online lessons from 8 - 11 but I don't see how that can be possible from next week.

Another 'expert' with an opinion in the media. These guys are relentless. Why not just close swimming pools forever if they can potentially spread diseases.

Educate and enforce the rules then. Get the people in authority to actually do their job.

To a certain extent the decision is correct. However, we HAVE to begin resuming normal life and cannot hide away from this virus.

This issue worsened when people started hoarding supplies to make profits
Strange that the stories of people in the government doing just that have miraculously disappeared.

We're expecting 75% of the students in our Early Years and Primary back next week. We have planned for either Monday 1st or Thursday 4th.
Still no final word from our management about how exactly this will be planned. Seeing as the CCSA have the final say I am guessing the email will probably arrive at 8pm on Friday stating their decision.

Thailand's cabinet appointed deputy minister Wissanu Krea-ngam to lead a committee to represent the government in the rehabilitation process
????
Wissanu's whole role is to protect the establishment at all costs. Absolutely nothing will change.

Seems once again like 'jobs for the boys'.
A former minister, a former THAI president and a former PPT CEO (who are partly owned by the Ministry of Energy).
What a complete farce.

It seems we're definitely having students back from Thursday 4th.
The idea seems to be each class is split into two groups. E.g - Group A comes in from 8:00 - 10:30 and then Group B comes in from 11:30 - 2:00.
No break times, lunch times or specialist lessons being taught.
In primary each group will do the normal daily maths, guided reading and English lessons with me and then the other lessons such as science, history, geography, ICT, Thai, Mandarin etc they can continue to do online whilst they are at home.
I have no idea how we will be able to teach the students that don't return to school though.

Interested to see if this actually does anything. I definitely can't imagine a lot of Thais will be desperate to go on holiday in Thailand over the coming months. A few reasons might be children returning to school, loss of income / job, rainy season, health concerns etc.
Having a look on websites like Agoda and Booking recently I also noticed that there seems to be very little price drops. I would happily go away somewhere in Thailand for my summer holiday now but I definitely would be expecting a price reduction.

Why would you want a credit card here anyway, most probably fees and interest is high and if it's secured on another account it's pointless
The interest rate is higher than in the UK but nothing massively different.
I don't use mine all the time, but for example we have just bought a new kitchen from IKEA. They offer a 6 month 0% interest payment plan with a credit card so rather than paying 170,000THB up front we can pay it off in 6 monthly installments.
That to me is a great benefit of having a credit card even if I do obviously have to pay the annual fees and interest on the balance.

I assumed the OP was asking about getting a CC in Thailand from a Thai bank.
I can't imagine where else he would be told "farang cannot".
Yes, obviously. I do live and work in Thailand.
I obtained my credit card from the CitiBank office in Bangkok opposite Terminal 21. Therefore, that is why I replied to the OP.

CitiBank are the one. Very easy and quick to setup (all through email and post), good benefits (reward points, unlimited airport lounge pass, reduced golf courses etc), high amount of credit and most importantly a very good English speaking call center.
I have never heard anything good about credit cards from Thai banks. Even my wife moans about SCB with her credit card.
Edit: Just saw you said you're retired. I guess CitiBank would likely also say no.

Fantastic. The man who was involved in receiving 600M THB to a bank in the Virgin Islands for a suspicious land sale near Bangkok is now fighting back against kickbacks.

I've seen unconfirmed reports on Twitter that Wissanu will be chairing the restructuring committee.
If so, that is incredible, yet fully unsurprising. Wissanu is a man that has shown his role is to protect the establishment.

The Nottingham and Sunderland PGCEi are / were both accepted. I know two people who did those a years ago and then obtained the five year license.

Experienced this for the first time today. Utterly bizarre. I can understand the idea of it in larger premises' such as shopping malls etc, but having to sign in and out (I didn't know I had to sign out until she called me back) is just ridiculous.

I think so. We were told last week this would likely happen and some friends of mine in other international schools in Bangkok were told the same. Personally, I cannot wait to get back and fully agree that things need to resume some sort of normality even if it is just for 3 or so weeks before the end of the academic year.
Our plan (according to our phase leader) is different days for different year groups. For example, Monday is Y1, Y3, Y5 and Tuesday is Y2, Y4, Y6. The days the students aren't in school they will continue remote learning like they have been doing since March. Our class sizes are around 15 so it shouldn't be a major issue to social distance in the classroom. However, I guess outdoor break and lunch times will be cancelled as well as PE / swimming / music lessons etc. I imagine this will be fine with students in our secondary school building, although I have no idea how it could work with our nursery and early years department.
We have a briefing every Monday morning so I guess we'll find out the rest of the info tomorrow.
