2019 = Let's ban AirBnB they are causing problems and we can't make any money from them. 2020 = AirBnB are great so let's work with them to provide safe accommodation.

This situation has definitely shown Thailand's lack of civil rights once again. As many other countries are allowing its citizens and people with residency to return during the pandemic, Thailand has only allowed Thais to enter and the 'aliens' have no place.
If the 14 day quarantine was properly imposed then it makes absolutely difference whether a Thai or a foreigner (providing they have the correct documentation to live here) return to the country. As usual, Thailand once again shows it lack of acceptance towards non - Thais and a xenophobic approach. I guess as anyone who knows about the culture here shouldn't be surprised at the lack of empathy as we are all aliens in their eyes.
As other people have posted, situations like these make me think about whether I really want to live here long term or perhaps we should move back to England again.

Good to see him still maintaining his stance against the government, but most importantly the military. As we have said before, the establishment won't be letting go just yet, however with people like Thanatorn I hope one day in the future we see a real change in Thailand.

I guess Mr Auntin has had some say in her new role. Maybe more.

Absolutely. Thailand has never been a democracy. Most of us know which establishment is solely to blame for that, and it seems more and more Thais are coming around to that idea too.

To be fair to these chumps, extending it for the time being is the logical step.

I am planning on going to get mine in the summer holiday next month.
From what I saw online before I think it is (Passport, Work Permit if working in Thailand, Marriage Certificate, Blue Book from the owner and owner's ID). I even saw on one discussion that one person was asked for their birth certificated translated in Thai ????.

Some absolute crackers in there. This being my favourite, 'Thailand, he concluded, could very well become the hub of global economy as well as a hub for tourism and public health'.

Not sure this can be fully commented on without getting in trouble.

I guess these guys are forgetting what is actually going on in the world right now. By the looks of Somkid I guess he should be self isolating at home due to his age. Everything he is referring to is relating to mass tourism needs (upgrading the airport and the new high speed rail linking the airports). Without that, there won't be a big economic boost.
The EEC is the Junta's big idea. They are relying on this to make any success of their tenure, however When Airbus originally pulled out of the EEC project that showed us all what is most likely going to happen. Let's also not forget Thai media reporting fake news that Airbus' decision was because of Coronavirus, when in fact it had been mentioned months before.

I think this could become common over the coming years with regards to Vietnam. It seems like a country with a determined and creative workforce, simple visa rules, a currency not falsely manipulated and a government that is welcoming foreign business and operations.
All very different to Thailand since 2014.

We were told today (along with some people I know in other international schools in Bangkok) that students will 'very likely' be returning on June 1st for the final 3/4 weeks of the school year. Parents were emailed today to share their views on it.
We got no information regarding what that will actually look like in terms of social distancing, numbers allowed in each classroom etc. Our average class size is around 16 so I guess that number could be manageable with all students wearing masks, regular hand sanitising, no break time or lunch times outside etc.

Sad for the lower level staff that will be losing their jobs. I imagine none of the umpteen board members THAI employ will be losing their salaries for the time being.

And don't forget, according to Thai news last week, if it wasn't for the Coronavirus outbreak Airbus would have gone into partnership with THAI in a EEC venture ????.
I think we can all guess what Airbus must think in regards to THAI and the way it is ran.

I think you're slightly missing the point. A lot of posters aren't just criticising her English or pronunciation. I couldn't care less about that and actually feel sorry for her due to the thousands upon thousands of negative comments on Thai social media.
People like myself (a fully qualified UK teacher at a real international school in Bangkok) are being highly critical that something as ludicrously wrong as that video was actually allowed to be broadcast across the nation. On a TV channel endorsed by the MoE.
It wasn't just the pronunciation, it was the incorrect grammar, the mistakes in sentence structure and the truly bizarre teaching style. The whole thing was farcical and could have been in a comedy skit. As another poster alluded to, this video is on par with a maths teacher that is teaching a multiplication calculation wrong, or a science teacher explaining the periodic table incorrectly.
I don't know much about what it is like inside a Thai school, but I am guessing that video epitomises Thai education to an absolute tee.

Some children don't even have TVs at home. The source said they could go to a friend's house.
That response pretty much sums them up completely. What a farce.

Let's hope we find out who these 'experts' are meant to be. I wonder if any of them will have experience and knowledge of management within the international aviation sector.

Jesus Christ, that is an obscene amount of money.

Absolutely not.

What most folks don't know is that the Education Ministry has the biggest budget out of all ministries in Thailand. More than double the 2nd largest money allocated for the Defense Ministry. Simply mind blowing...and look at the sad state of the schools, teachers, and quality.
In fact, what Thailand spends on education is more than what many developed western nation spends!
Is that true? If so, that is absolutely incredible.
However, I am pretty sure we can guess where all that money goes. The establishment doesn't want an educated and inquisitive population.

The state-controlled airline's troubles are the latest example of how the coronavirus pandemic is crippling the global airline industry.
Fake news. They haven't turned a profit in years and were losing around 1 billion / month long before anyone even knew the word Coronavirus.

Pretty sure we can all guess where the order of 'shoot to kill' came from.
One of the government responses last week to the lighting protests was to just check the court records and that justice has been served. I guess AI will find it hard to make anything change here when the establishment at the top controls all.

I think that is exactly what is happening. THAI is fully ingrained in the establishment here (just look at the flights they have still been running during the pandemic) and will never be able to become fully privatised.
