I'm more puzzled by threads asking where to buy fruit, or where to get a hair-cut. Many threads like this.
Do people really have to ask on a forum? Are they really that useless?
It seems that way.
It must be about time for where to buy the best burger or pizza thread for the umpteenth time

Bit pricey Angie at the place by Wine connection in Chalong, trained in Europe.Speaks excellent English and does a good job.All depends if you want to look like a dick or spend a bit of money.
250 for a good haircut.
I guess you must be right... I like to look like a dick. But then again I don't need someone who speaks English to cut my hair. Just a professional who has been doing it all their life... Poor guy sold a few Rai for over 60 million a few years back, but still cuts my hair!
Angie is Thai. She married a falang. She can speak Thai,English ,German.

And what has this got to do with Phuket?

Thailand's tourism industry is not shrinking; it is growing. The demography is changing, but, that was inevitable with Asian countries having robust growth rates compared to developed countries.NamKangMan, on 23 Mar 2013 - 11:52, said:
The tourism industry to Thailand may only be 6% of GDP, but it employs around 27% of the working population, either directly, or indirectly.
A shrinking tourism industry for Thailand will not hurt GDP so much, but means a lot of unemployed Thai's.
Once Europe's economy finally comes out of the doldrums, there will be an increase of visitors from there, too.
Your "doom and gloom" scenarios are just not going to happen.
Doesn't look they are spending much thou.
the average spending of a tourist is only 3,000 baht, or about 100 US dollars, per day.
Mind you I don't know if the hotel is included in that figure

aaaand closing in 3..2..1..
I like the free flow topics, but <deleted> are these ones? Simply advertises of one hotel?
Probably because there is only one hotel on the Island and the best choice for visa runs.

Suprise bloody surprise. The GBP had been punching well above it's weight for way too long. Little wonder reality had to set in at some time.
If 44 THB to the 1 GBP is't good enough anymore, there's other places around the world that are cheaper. Stop your ccomplaining though.
Why has the pound been doing that then. Please enlighten us.

It always amazes me the people who knock the UK have either never been or have only visited London.
I lived in Cornwall for 30 years and it has some of the best coastline and beaches in the world then take a trip up to Scotland for it's magnificent ruggedness and beautiful it's Lochs.
Add the 1000's of years of history, not just a couple of hundred like a lot of countries and it knocks spots off most places.

I never had a problem in Rawai.I think it's amazing how those post men even find half the addresses because I have not got a clue how the numbering system works here.

We don't often get across the bridge, however today was an exception. I do quite like Phang Nga for all of the reasons that have been described above, though I think living there full time wouldn't suit me at least. Iolare and Tony Cowan seem to have it cracked, having homes in both Phang Nga and Phuket.
Anyway, the purpose of today's excursion was to visit a restaurant a few kilometres the other side of the bridge, called 360 Coffee (I think it's also called 'Andaman View Point'). I'm guessing that it's about 3 or 4 kilometres travelling south before the bridge on the left hand side, immediately after a Weigh Station.
It's situated at the top of what really is a hillock, and seems to be quite busy, or at least it was on a Sunday lunchtime. The menu is reasonably extensive, and whilst the food wasn't bad, it was pretty average. Not particularly cheap, in fact my banker (wife) said the check bin was comparable to one of our favourites, Mamtrio in Kathu, but nowhere near Mamtrio's quality. Better to stick to a coffee (very good selection) and one of their extensive selection of cakes (not all were available from the menu though).
The views, whilst pleasant, weren't anywhere near as wonderful as some of our favourite spots on Phuket, particularly on the east coast.
It is very family orientated, and has quite a few facilities for children, so if you have a young family and are in the area, I would recommend it. Some photos of the place in general, and the food. Click on a photo to enlarge it.
Not being funny pagallim, but just wondering.Do you take photo's of every meal you have?

Reads more like an advatorial for real estate agents to me.
"Chinese, Russian and Australian visitors were the top spenders at leading shopping centres"
That seems pretty obvious if they are main tourist groups on Phuket.

Holiday in the UK.
Shudder at the thought.
It all depends on which part of the UK you are visiting

I always leave Thailand on my NZ passport and use my UK passport when entering the UK.Never had any problem

There are free bbqs every night in Phuket. There is always some bar girls or bar owners birthday. Just take a ride on your bike and follow the balloons
Some of them are quite good. There used to a place called the Normandy Bar on Beach Road that put on brilliant food cheese, salami fresh breads and sushi, owned by a couple of French guys and there is a good bar in Chalong owned by Nan who always puts on excellent food.so there are some good ones out there

RIP the driver. I always thought that these sort of doors would have some sort of pressure sensor to prevent this sort of terrible accident.
They are supposed to have them.T.I.T

It's hard being right all the time...
You are so right
It makes me wonder if most of these posters live in Thailand or have ever visited here.
If any of you do live here and speak thai just listen to what Thai's think about falang. You would be quite surprised at the hatred they have for us.So yes I think it could be a random attack by the usual pack of cowards.
I do not like walking past groups of young Thai's anymore as they are just waiting for you to turn around and look at themand that is enough in their tiny little minds to have a go.Oh and if they do get caught they just play the It was a misunderstanding card

Just give every arriving passenger a small bottle of aeroguard once they clear immigration, problem solved.
You don't happen to hold shares in the company that makes aeroguard do you ?
Not at all. I just know the tropical strength works. Yes it contains DEET.
Out of curiosity, is it available in Chiang Mai?
David
Sketolene should be, it contains 15 % deet and there is another Thai one that contains 25% deet can not remember the name. All available in lotus

Another sad loss of 2 lives.
And the ******* maniac who caused this was drunk and abusive and has probably escaped with minor injuries.
Very sad again this accident, but according to the report loss of 1 life. It's bad enough as it is, no need to overdo it.
RIP.
He may be counting the unborn child.
And @ lavender, the driver that apparently caused it did not escape with minor injuries.
Good I hope he is suffering

why would you go near a supermarket when you can get your TGF to do that fo you. Are you mad? I Wouldnt ever subject myself to that sort of tortureSeems like low season may have kicked in again. I made a trip to Phuket Immigration, the main Phuket Town post office, and Prompan, then back home to Rawai in two hours. Maybe just a fluke and I got lucky? Anyway, that was in my truck, not on a motorbike.
Many of the schools have closed for the holidays with a corresponding reduction in traffic. I also notice our infamous circle has not been too bad these past few days.
The roads may be quiet but unfortunately the shops /supermarkets are full of screaming brats running around.
Because if I left to my GF I would end up with a trolley load of useless crap I did not ask for.
