  1. I believe Thailand used to have such a system. I guess they could bring it back. Just like they can''t have over stayers leave Thailand without paying their fine, they can't have people leaving Thailand without paying their tax. I did say some time ago I would not be surprised to see a TRD desk next to the overstay desk at airports.
  2. I agree. I looked into Teams, and when I saw paid calling was not similar to Skype, I researched no further, and will not even bother downloading it.
  3. I will be declaring the exact amount of money I have remitted to Thailand. No point lying about that figure, the Thai banks report it anyway. The owner of my condo is a foreigner, so I pay from my home county into his home country, and bypass Thailand completely, so that saves on some remittance tax. My remittances are still over the threshold. They are all assessable. I will be filing, declaring, and paying, yet I have been minimizing my tax liability. I will be paying some tax, but the main thing is I get the magic piece of paper that gives me the all clear here to carry on as normal. For those who do nothing, relying on pre 2024, pensions, DTA's, gifting, TiT etc etc etc etc, well, good luck to you, but in my opinion, I am sure the Thai's have something waiting for you in the future.
  4. Good Luck to you with your "gifting" method. Everyone has different circumstances and risk profiles.
  5. I haven't tried entering the Skype web portal on a phone. Leave it with me. I will try it and report back.
  6. That was Canberra in the 80's. With the longest projection, being 50 years, we are now 40 years into that projection, with the estimate of 1985 as a base line. As I have said before, one day in the future, the Australian Aged Pension thread can be closed. No working Aussies will receive an aged pension, with the focus being on the word "working." Of course, those ho have never worked a day in their life will continue to leach off tax payers from the day the are born, until the the day they die. Australia's welfare system is being abused, which is contributing to the issue in the below link. http://australiandebtclock.com.au
  7. Yes, you are correct, but how many Aussie expat pensioners who haven't been home for several years can meet the Factor 2 tests? Sure, they can meet one of them, "right to reside" which is easy, as they are an Aussie citizen, but what about meeting any of the others? All true, but how does that help the Aussie expat pensioners who haven't been home in several years? Bingo. The percentage is high. You have covered your a**, do good for you. Many on this forum still think "it's only for guys like Paul Hogan."
  8. Hence, why it will be a document required at extension time in the future. Then, 100% of of expats will file. Simple fix for the Thai's really. It ensures 100% compliance. Only a matter of time.
  9. Filling next week. An agent is taking care of it. I did say I would file at the 11th hour, but 2 weeks prior allows some time for any problems that may arise. I will not be declaring the cash I brought back from the Singapore F1, or cash brought into me by a friend. Just on this point, both amounts of cash were under the declarable amount.
  10. That's "The Somchai Shuffle." Be sure to give the name of the Jomtien TRD Officer, and his phone number, to authorities at Immigration and airports in the future. I am sure he will explain it all to them so you can get your extension an leave Thailand. Have a good evening.
  11. If you cancel, they lose trying to sell you Teams, so offer Skype again to you, so you go to teams after the 5th May. Trying to push a product down people's throats that they don't want will back fire. When I received the email I had a look at Teams and pretty much straight away discarded the product.
  12. The below is a cut an paste from the email Microsoft sent me. This tells me both will work after the 5th May, but I will not even bother downloading Teams. Skype Dial Pad: After May 5, 2025, the Skype Dial Pad will be available to remaining paid users from the Skype web portal and Teams, where you will continue to be able to use your subscription or Skype Credits.
  13. You really have no idea. See "cash at hand - inside or outside Australia." I don't report posts, but NO ONE should listen to ANY of your advice. You are suggesting to them to break the law. https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/asset-types?context=22526 Financial investments Tell us about any financial investments you and your partner own, or partially own, in and outside Australia. 14. If you are living in Thailand, how do you know this? Link please? They don't have to come after anyone. You will be outside of Australia for more than 183 days, therefore will be a non resident for tax purposes, the tax bracket for non residents is 30% from $0 to $135,000, the pension is deemed an income, and the pension is taxable, and there are no exemptions or new tax free thresholds. You have never addressed the above. You just continue to shoot the messenger. Link please. It's the ATO that will inform Centerlink what Australians are non residents for tax purposes after 183 days. Once again, you are suggesting to members to break the law. It's against forum rules, but more than that, it's very poor advice. Here's an example. He did "the right thing" and look what happened to him. You are suggesting members should do "the wrong thing." https://9now.nine.com.au/a-current-affair/lotto-numbers-pensioner-centrelink-winnings/5906339b-634e-486d-b8a3-517e1431c8d6 Aren't we talking about pensioners, not part pensioners? Part pensioners are going to be screwed. Simple as that. That income that only sees them qualify for a part pension is up for 30% non resident tax. No way out of it. You keep banging on about "chasing." There is no chasing. You are outside of Australia for 183 days and WILL BE deemed a non resident for tax purposes. It amazes me how many accept that being in Thailand for more than 180 days means you will be a tax resident of Thailand, yet, CAN NOT accept the day where Australia adopts a physical presence and time based model also, and being outside of Australia for 183 days means you WILL BE a non resident of Australia for tax purposes.
  15. Your post was suggesting they were stored in the cabin, in a magical place. They are not. There's no magic. They are just put in the luggage compartment last, and taken out of the luggage compartment first, and for convenience, made available to the owner prior to the carousel.
  16. So the marriage is on the Thai lady's birth certificate, is it? Good Luck with that. I'm sure the Thai's have something planned for those who are going down that route.
  17. Good Luck with doing nothing. In my opinion you are leaving yourself exposed to extortion. You can sell it all you like on this forum, but I'm not buying it. It's better to have that magic piece of paper than not. Simple as that.
  18. Hemmingways - Soi Honey.
  19. You are the one suggesting to members to break the law. Poor advice. What guarantee can you give them they will never face any consequences?
  20. You have to declare all assets, cash, and income, within Australia, and offshore. Did you not see the link? Here it is again. https://www.expattaxes.com.au/fifo-worker-with-a-foreign-bank-account-ato-know-about-it/#:~:text=This is done via the, office automatically every single year. "Important to note is that the exchange of your information is NOT dependent on a specific request from the ATO. Instead the foreign financial institution is required to exchange that information with the ATO automatically. This is done via the AEOI (the Automatic Exchange of Information) so that your foreign bank and financial account information is sent to the Australian Taxation office automatically every single year."
  21. Australia non resident tax is 30% for $0 to $135,000. Thai tax will be the least of Aussie expat problems when the proposed changes are passed and the 183 days outside Australia law kicks in.
  22. That's the way I see it also. Tax to pay or no tax to pay, you get that magic piece paper that says you are all clear with the TRD for 12 months. Anything else is rolling the dice and leaving one open to extortion in the future.
