Do you think such action would be a good way of covering one's a** in regards to this tax policy? Sure, and I understand your position. However, you MAY be asked to prove such at extension time, or at an airport, in the future, and in my opinion, neither one of these will be a simple 5 minute task. Good Luck with doing NOTHING. Maybe it will work out, maybe it will not. I will file and have a certificate, so I know I will be fine. Each to their own, and I wish everyone the best with their decision.

And you don't think the Thai's will make expats "factually prove" their income source? If they don't, every expat will not file. If they do, how do you think they will make expats do it? -
Succumbing to the pressure from a Thai wife / GF is the individual's fault. They wouldn't try it on with a Thai guy, but farang are soft, and they know it. Try it one with me, and she can go back to her 300 baht a day job, or the bar, or whatever. Even if I did have a Thai wife / GF, I would still "pay as I go." She would be well looked after, even after I pass, but no big ticket assets in her name, as to run the risk of joining the big club of those who have been done over here before, and at present, and into the future.

He's not the only one recommending the same. Over the years, there have been some condo's in my block for sale. Based on what they sold for, leaving that that money in a bank in my home country, the interest more than pays my rent, and I have no maintenance, fees, and taxes to pay, also, I have freedom of movement should the condo block be turned into a AirBnB hotel, or a Thai nightclub open to 7am opens next door. Not to mention, the condo block ages and depreciates, and they are building more and more condo blocks. I also don't leave a problem in Thailand for my kids when I have passed. Given the above, why would I even consider buying in my own condo block?

On the basis of "TiT" there MAY be a need in the future for individuals to show why they didn't file. As I have said, imagine every single expat simply saying, "My income is non assessable" even when it is actually assessable. It can't be that easy to avoid this tax. At some point, they are going to want to see proof of source. They already know the amounts, just not the source. A tax policy without enforcement is no tax policy at all. This policy will evolve. Be prepared. -
Where is the AFL thread?

Gambling is illegal in Thailand. -
Yes, we all know that. Are you kidding? At the moment, under the "self assessment" model, foreigners can simply say, "all my remittances are non assessable income." That's it. Nothing to ensure compliance. The reason why the order MAY come from Bangkok to immigration officers to demand a TRD document is to push every foreign tax resident who needs a visa / extension to go a TRD Office and prove source of income. Is that soooooooo left left field to consider???? I agree, but they will just be collateral damage. Not everyone is American. You don;t say.

What about "The Somchai Shuffle" on your other visit/s? No need for a thank you. You are welcome, Scouse123. Do you have a TIN? Be sure the senior TRD officer gives you some type of document to prove the whole meting / interaction / notation on the data base actually occurs. -
What about Americans that should pay tax? How will the Thai government differentiate between pensioners and those who should pay? It's by the Thai banks reporting, but they only see cash transfers, not the source of funds. Can you see this being an issue in the future? As I said, why don't we all just say our remittances are non assessable?. Close all these tax threads and forget about it. Ahhhh, but some members say the TRD haven't got the resources to audit every foreigner, and I agree, but what they can do is not grant an extension until an expat has a document from a TRD Office to proving the source of the remittances.

I minimized my remittances in 2024 and brought in some cash from Singapore when returning from the F1. I also had a friend bring in cash from Australia. I'm not on a pension, but most pensions are over the threshold, so, there may be a small amount to pay for pensioners. I am expecting to pay some tax. I don't mind paying some tax for the security of knowing I have done so and receiving document from the TRD proving I have. Therefore no nasty surprises further down the track, particularly at extension time.

No. You definitely are a sheep. You post no content, only troll posts on my posts, and get "likes." I doubt you could get any "likes" by posting any content. Quite sad,m really. Keeps you posting though, doesn't it? My advice is to stick to your Trump posts. "USA, USA, USA." Remember, it's all about "Freedumb."

You still think it's going to play out that way. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Assessable income, non assessable income, pre 2024 savings, DTA's, blah blah blah. In my opinion, foreigners will be made to pay "something." Does it matter why? Are you going to take on the TRD / Thai government in Court, and risk your happy life in Thailand, no. The Thai government says pay, you will pay. You know it, and they know you know it. Hence, a bill is on its way. Do you remember where you are living.? You have no rights here.
