30 days if land by air - 15 days if you come via land crossing

Bank income statements will not get you an extension of stay @ Phuket. They will want to see letter for Canadian Embassy. However having 800,000 baht in Thai bank for 2 months will
Costs from 30 day entry stamp - 2000 for O & 1900 for Extension - = 15 month stay (have to report every 90 days)

The Hotel & island where it is situated - DEAD as !!!!! - I've been twice & that was 2 more time than I want to - do Andaman, get stamp, come back on same ferry
There is a casino, but never saw & I suppose if a few went & made a night of it then it might be OK
On second trip I think I saw 3 'guests' kicking about the hotel
Just my view though
Thanks for the heads up - it sounds pretty naff. If it is that dead I guess ill just do a same day bounce. Shame though.... Looks like a nice place to smash the golf and have a few beers at night. No point if its a ghost town though.
The hotel is nice, but the 2 times I've been there - I'm glad I was leaving within the hour !! Possibly more golfers (maybe that's where they all were !!) than pool bathers. When you get boat across ask for it to wait & you will be back in Ranong/Andaman within 1 hr. If you stop on island then maybe 2 - 1/2 hrs - ok for drink & mosey around

Unless exempted at highest levels. Some were forgiven during the recent extreme weather in South Thailand but have not seen reports as a personal option.
They did charge overstay even because of the airport closure in 2008
They made overstay exemptions during last years volcanic problems

No - but get letter from doctor with a date when you can travel (can be repeated if necessary) and pay 1900 baht for extension at immigration

From 15th April - money (800,000) must be seasoned for 60 days - why would it be from 3rd Feb, money wasn't there until 15th April

I am afraid staff are right - as far as Phuket is concerned - you used to be able to get letter from school to say you have finished course and they could convert, but no more alas !!

where is this kebab shop/restaurant exactly??
thnks
It's in post/thread somewhere, but heading south from Chalong circle go through new lights and about 500 - 800 metres on right is a sign saying ADAM's Kebabs - easy when you know how ish :jap:

A grey area is where it is a community project, such as a village clean up, is this voluntary work or just doing your civic duty?
Civic duty = working in this case I would imagine :jap:

The rules are clear: volunteering needs a work permit. What you need to get a work permit will vary from labour office to labour office. But basicly your employer fills in some forms and you supply your highest degree.
A labour office is most helpful with this. I never had any problem with them and receive all the support they can give me.
How do Tourist Police Volunteers get away with no WP then ? pls

A lot of great work is done by volunteers here, and people should not be too discouraged if they they really want to help the community. Those keen on volunteering may therefore wish to attend the forthcoming meeting of the 'Chiang Mai Friends Group' when a government official is scheduled to clarify the regulations and 'explain the intricacies' Hopefully this event will provide up-to-date clear-cut information, and I hope this post does not break forum rules.
Date: Wed 27th April 2011 5:30pm – 9:00pm
Dinner & Meeting : 300 THB for members, 350 THB for non-members. Meeting only : 80 THB
Venue: Butterfly Chiang Mai : 181 Moo 6. San Pee Sua
Friends Talk : Mr. Ruchuchai Potha , Labor Technical Officer, Department of Employment Chiang Mai Province.
This month the Speaker is Khun Ruchuchai Potha who runs the Ministry of Employment in Chiang Mai. He will be explaining the conditions under which work permits may be issued and when they are required.
Many foreign residents in Chiang Mai undertake charity or voluntary work, some of which does require a work permit. Khun Ruchachai will explain the intricacies. He may also talk about the new initiative between the Ministry of Employment and Chiang Mai Friends which is aimed at making work permits simpler and easier to obtain for those undertaking voluntary work.
Khun Ruchachai will be happy to answer questions from the audience after his talk.
That's great for people living near CM, but will someone be able to post facts from the meeting onto here ?? I also know that regional interpretaions will apply, bit it would be good to get to learn 1 set of rules :jap:

Where is your father situated & what type of visa/entry stamp is he on at moment ?
-
Letter fron Embassy generally has a life of only 30 days :jap:
-
unfortunately (currently) work permit violations carry quite severe penalties including 'do not return' stamps & yes in theory you need wp for volunteering unless for government (ie Tourist Police) where it seems to be overlooked
-
did the same at airport - helped a farang - never again !!
-
I wouldn't worry about it one bit then! Just don't go around telling everyone you see. Keep a low profile and there should be no problem.I think it could cause a problem if you or the company/second party reports it...
Curious, do you have a Work Permit already?
Is this a Thai company?
No - farang living in CM area - work would be in Europe, but wants to pay me in Bahts :jap:
One of my concerns was the money coming into Thai bank - would I be better to get it paid to GF account (I am SURE she will oblige there) :jap:

I have the chance of some work outside of Thailand, but would be paid from inside Thailand. Will or could this cause problems with Work Permit issues ?? I am under 50 therefore not on retirement ext. & not married to Thai :jap:

Need 800,000 in for 60 days prior to conversion
90 says start from the day you convert from TR to Non O, then every 90 days after that. 1st retirement extension plus 3 months from thr non O will give you 15 months

I tried with SCB debit card - did not work. but............ what it achieved was a response from uk passport office in Hong Kong with a direct name & email address. This got me out of having to pay OVER 80p per minute to call them through an expensive outsoure company and could therefore 'track' progress.

I posted a topic on that place, and only got a couple replies, so yes, not so popular.
From what I understand it's a Russian gig, they tap the Russian tour agencies to add it into their packages.
They claim 5* cuisine, but I understood from somebody that went to the opening the food was crap.
For 3,500thb, Phuket certainly has some better options, Suzi Wong's for instance.................
What's on Suzi Wongs menu pls
