  1. You already know the answer - go and get it changed. 20,000 baht might be cheaper than visa runs, unless you happen to get a passport check for some minor incident !!! will it be cheaper than 20,000 baht then ?? Remember hindsight is wonderful and if something happens then you will wish you sorted it when you could jap.gif

can't see how a police check would hurt because they would just look at the stamp and see permitted to stay until the date shown. How do they know any different ? Anyone had anything like this happen to them before ?

Police check your passport - realise have wrong stamp, therefore you are on overstay !!!! - Off to the local nick for a few days, then court, then immigration, then deportation - doesn't hurt but very inconvenient and costly ohmy.gif

would your average BIB know anything about what stamp a foreigner is supposed to have ?

If there are Bahts to be made - YES jap.gif

  3. Sorry to hear about your problems, but overstay is 500 baht a day, without exception.

You could write a letter to the immigration chief, but they might tell you you had the option of getting an emergency travel document and leave the country on time.

You now probably have a 30 day extension of stay on your tourist visa. The good news is that you no longer need at least 21 days left to convert to a non-immirgant visa.

but you have to buy a Non O for 2000 baht as well - your extension will last for 15 months though jap.gif

  4. 30 days only for each entry although you might be given 7 days to leave the country with proof of an air ticket.

    Gents facts pls...

    http://www.associate...pg2.html?cat=17

However, if you want to just stay an extra few days once the 30-day extension has expired, you can go back to immigration, do the same process again, pay another 1,900 baht and, this time, will probably receive another extension, but only for 15 days. This can be repeated one more time, for another 7 days, but then you will be required to leave the country and, at 1,900 baht per time, it's often cheaper just to leave the country and apply for a second tourist visa in a neighboring country.

    Thanks!

With all due respect their information seems to be wrong. jap.gif Try it and lets us know what happens - c u on the bus whistling.gif

  5. I appreciate the help, terak69 and moe666. She saw that I had gotten a work visa and some tourist visas in the past, and that I did not have a visa this time so she asked, "You don't have a visa?" Of course, I said I did not. She then stamped me in for 60 days. Since the rules change occasionally, I wondered if she was corrrect in giving me 60 days. I guess not. And now I have overstayed. Any recommendations besides just paying the 500 baht per day? Is it possible a border Immigration officer might not notice? Thanks again for your advice.

Border officer not notice - that's their best quality, can spot overstay from 300 meters biggrin.gif - advice depends on how long you will of overstayed by jap.gif

  6. Still got 8 years left on my larger 40 page passport. We all know the number of stamps one gets a year is crazy to say the least so I just had a little look at it and I'd say if I had a standard one I would be lucky to get 6 years out of it before it was full. I think you should get a discount if your passport is full and has a few years left on it myself.

You do !!! , but you get an extra 9 months !!! Where they got that time from bemuses me - I had used my last passport up in 5 years - when new one came 10 spanking new years & 9 months !!! does the uk government actually employ someone to develop these ridiculous ideas or do we just borrow an immigrant for the day ??????? jap.gif

You got 9 months extra passport validity for free and you STILL complain?

    Yup biggrin.gif

  8. Fell sorry for you UK citizen. :o

    How do you accepts this.

    First Hong Kong, now UK.

    Next year....

Can't you get decent consular service in Thailand?

My dealings with UK Consul in Chiang Mai have been incredibly positive, the young lass there really goes above and beyond the call of duty, whereas the Australian Consulate service is virtually non existent. ( I have dual nationality)

Well said. My dealings with both the British Embassy in Bangkok and my local Hon Consul on Koh Samui have been both friendly and very efficient. One gets the feeling that there is a high ratio of "laptop geriatrics" who have great difficulty in adapting to change. Have a look outside, there are real people out there adapting and changing to a thousand and one issues in life - you might like to do likewise instead of bemoaning your insignificant lot. And yes prices for nearly everything are rising across the World. You might like to count yourself fortunate that you can afford them, unlike many unfortunates who do their best, with a smile, despite the odds. What a sad, sad lot on this forum.

If you read properly, it is not the rising costs that's the problem. It's the 2 tier pricing (yes, similar to Thailand, but we know how to beat that one) used by the uk government.

Why contribute if 'sad lot on this forum' tongue.gif

  9. Why can't you do a visa extension from within Thailand? I've been here for years and never had to leave the country to do a 12-month extension to my O-visa due to retirement.

He/She may not be retirement age ! not married to Thai ! not working here ! not have children here ! - Lots of reasons these days jap.gif

In that case he would be highly unlikely to get a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa in UK also.

true true - get married easier whistling.gif LOL - then have nothing but O visa !!

  10. If this minor 'change' upsets so many people, what on earth will they do when they request that all passport applications and renewals require a face-to-face interview with the applicant?

    In the UK!

Or, more to the point, when there are no more UK passports nor British Embassies. You will have to apply in handwritten triplicate presented in person at the central citizenship processing bureau of the EUSSR in Brussels on the first Tuesday of the month of your birth. You will then pick up the passport at the same office at a date to be defined according to the fee you pay but not less than three months later. The slight delay is due to the fact that it will take 75 different beaurocrats to process the application each personally checking each and every detail on the form.

    LOL biggrin.gif, but possibly true

  11. If this minor 'change' upsets so many people, what on earth will they do when they request that all passport applications and renewals require a face-to-face interview with the applicant?

    In the UK!

It's not the 'minor changes' that upset me - it's the idiotic system they intend to use & the inevitable price increases. Face to face interviews, I do not think could ever happen unless uk becomes a dictatorship, maybe next year then whistling.gif

But the last Labour government already set the wheels in motion for exactly that; a face-to-face application and renewal process for all passports no matter where you live.

Personally, having gone through almost twenty passports since I became as expat over 30 years ago, the ease of renewing has always taken precedent over the cost. Even when I had two stolen in the US, it wasn't a major event. Last one I renewed in the UK while I was offshore Vietnam. Easy peasy.... apart from them rejecting the first and second passport picture attempts. Thank Buddha for the internet and email!

You retired and whingeing buggers have got it easy if the only complaint is the cost every what... ten years or so?

    1 - I am not retired

2 - I still have to pay uk taxes

3 - my application last December also had wrong wrong sized photos (by 1 mm) - Hong Kong would not let me sort by email, I had to resend

4 - If you salary is good enough not to worry about costs - then lucky you

So 'as a retired & whingeing bugger' - my second word to you is 'off' - pick your 1st jap.gif

  12. Does anyone know of another country that charges more than the UK for passports?

Most other foreigners I know get charged a lot less for their passports, and get more pages too.

"Rip off Britain" really earns it's reputation nowadays doesn't it?

We have dual UK and Aus passports, and last time we renewed them (in Australia) I remember thinking it strange that the Australian passport cost a lot more and took a longer to receive back in the mail than the British one. Can't remember the costs, but it must have been significant difference for me to have noticed.

Certainly the Australian Passport seems expensive, A$226 (roughly £148) for a passport with 32 pages, and A$340 (£222) for a passport with 64 pages. The charge is the same if you apply overseas. https://www.passport...eries/Fees.aspx

The UK Passport is £77.50 for the standard 32 page passport or £90.50 for the 48 page version, you pay more if you want it quickly. If applying overseas, it costs £128 and £154.50 respectively.

I suppose us Brits should stop moaning, but it's what we do best

Why should we stop moaning at the inflated prices for a person not currently residing the over immigrant populated uk. If we sit back and accept all the shit that is thrown at us what might they over price next ?? plus the fact I do not want an Aussie passport !!

I want a fair price for passport and a non-idiotic system of getting one. Transparency of pricing might be a good idea but............................................. whistling.gif

  13. I don't know why everyone is getting so excited about the ridiculous teletubbies video now, as it has been on the Embassy website for a month or so. Agreed the system is shot full of holes and vastly more expensive than it should be. The main point at the moment is when (?) in 2011 is the passport printing service being transferred to the UK. I sent my passport off to Hong Kong for renewal this week and heaven knows when I'll get it back if the service is 'on the move'. If anyone in the British Embassy reads this Forum it would be good to know when in "mid 2011" the printing service is moving to the UK and what, if any, changes need to be made to our applications.

Even if someone from embassy read the forum, which I think they might do, would you really expect them to be informative ??? I personally think not. I am just glad I renewed my last December jap.gif
